DS is just barely shy of 38" if I smoosh down his hair to his scalp. He's 38" with his hair. Do you all think he'll qualify to ride 7DMT? How closely do the CM's compare children's actual height to the chart in front of the queue?

* when I measured him earlier today, I was using a tape measure. For all I know, he's 39"? I guess we'll find out when we get there.

It really depends on the CM. My dd4 is just shy of 40" and was measured and allowed to ride TOT. We tried to ride Star Tours next and she wasn't allowed to ride. They slid a credit card between her head and the measuring post and told her no.

Remember height restrictions are for safety concerns. If someone is not tall enough then they are not tall enough. Don't try to scam the system. If he truly that close you could try going in the morning. People tend to be a little taller earlier in the day. But prepare him that he may not be able to ride. Also there are usually two height checkers. One at the entrance and one before boarding. Just making it past the first one doesn't guarantee that he will get on. It is up to the cast members. Don't give them a hard time if your DS doesn't measure up. They are just doing their job. It is nothing personal. If you have realistic expectations, nobody has to be disappointed. Good luck and have fun.

Assume they will be strict, they usually are, for the child's safety.

I'm not sure how my question led to possible assumptions that I don't understand safety regulations, that I'm trying to scam the system, or that I'd give the CMs a hard time, that I'd take it personally, or would be disappointed? I asked because I used a tape measure to try to figure out my son's height. Thanks for the good luck and have fun wishes though.

If it's really that close, find taller shoes.

Haha that's what someone else said. I do have to get him a new pair of shoe for the winter. Eh... if they're taller they're taller. If not, oh well. I'm not going to buy taller shoes unless they're comfortable to him.

I have a FP+ for the afternoon one day. I think I'll just stop by in the morning and check his height and if he doesn't qualify then I'll change my FP+ to something else. Maybe it will add some magic to someone else's day if they've been unable to get a FP+ for 7DMT. I guess we'll see.

It's not actually a "chart". It's a piece of metal that slides over the child's head. If it clears his head when they move it, he's too short. So it could move his hair aside.

Not sure how old your child is, but ours was 2.5 and just barely was tall enough- they studied him for a long time and worked with him to get him to stand tall and "stretch, no tippie toes!" lol We worked with him at home too, but at 2.5, he wasn't all that cooperative.

So, if he's that close- nice thick sole shoes, lots of standing tall and practice and you may just make it! I'm as big a stickler for safety when it comes to my grandson as anyone, but these height requirements have some built in leeway- if thick soles get him to the right height, rest assured, he's tall enough.

He will be 3 on Dec. 22. For all I know, he'll grow to be 40" in the next 3 weeks. Stranger things have happened pixiedust:

You're far from the first (or last) person to ask height questions here. Frequently posters with children under the height limi either aren't aware of the safety regulations/aspect, or are looking for ways for the child to get around the requirement. When they don't get the response they seek, some do plan to harangue the CMs, or they go and try and end up disappointed.

I understand all of those things. I'm a rational, reasonable minded person. I just find it incredibly unnecessary for someone to list all of those things in response to one question. I'm far from a newbie on these boards, but I'm new to planning a trip with a child.

I also understand that a lot of people get ridiculous when they don't get their way. Perhaps I was being a little defensive because I'm not one of those people. If my son isn't tall enough, we'll just find something else to do. The main reason for my question was because I'll release the FP if we won't use it so that someone else can take it if I don't.

My granddaughter just turned 4 and she's still a little under the 40 inches. I'm hoping she has a growth spurt in the next 3 weeks, lol. Here's wishing you luck!
As for negative responses, I've been coming here since I decided to plan this trip and needed to find out more about the new system. I have come to realize there's a good amount of drama and negativity on the boards discussing the happiest place on earth. I'm not here for that, and if I get a snarky response to something I post, I immediately put them on ignore. I'm not here for that and I don't have time or patience for it.

Thank you! Pixie dust to you and DGD too! pixiedust:

Feed him lots of calorie-dense food and see if you can get a little growth spurt going! Kidding of course! ;)

I would definitely look for some thick-soled shoes, there is such a variation in soles.

Hope you have a great trip. :goodvibes

Ours grew from just being tall enough for barnstormer to barely tall enough for 7DMT in less than 60 days! At this rate, he'll be tall enough for TOT by next summer. lol

They get big so quickly. Before I know it, he'll be a foot taller than me looking down and saying "hi mom" in a voice that's 3 octaves lower.

My DS was in the barely talk enough category. I put him in his Keens which have a thicker sole to make sure he could beat the 38" requirement. Much to my amazement, he wasn't measured for 7DMT. I took him to the measuring spot before my DH parked the stroller to check myself. When we went in the FP lane a few minutes later, the CM was trying to stop us for not having enough FPs. After I explained I couldn't get a FP for my DS due to being under 3, he let us all through without measuring. I was shocked. Nobody even thought to check before we boarded either.

My DD3 was just barely 40 inches with shoes on. I actually constructed a t-bar contraption to see if she would make it. Just barely, so close I wouldn't let her wear a different pair of shoes to the parks.

She was not measured once on our trip. She walked on to Splash, she walked on to BTMRR, she walked on to Soarin and Test Track. Not measured one time. I'm sure it's atypical but it depends on the CM, but I think the number who go through all the measuring is dwindling.
