$31 rental for a double stroller.

WDW and DL are ran by separate people, kind of. They have numerous differences. There's on reason to think economic models would be the same at both any more than there would be to think it'd be the same in Hong Kong as here, let alone have different management teams pick the same ones.

Look at the differences in food between the two for a start.

I see another unintended consequence: If more and more people start bringing their own expensive double strollers, some people are going to lock their strollers. I'm sure all the CMs on reparking duty will love that.

BTW, I'm not talking about locking a stroller to something. Rather, just slip a padlock through a wheel. It will make the stroller nearly useless to a potential thief. But, the CMs can still move it, just not as easily.

DL only rents single strollers because of congestion issues (many narrow walkways at DL). So it's possible that the cost of DL's single strollers go up a few dollars like WDW's single strollers, but it's the HUGE increase in the double strollers at WDW that's the main issue here. Maybe it really is because they want to cut down on congestion in the parks.

Your right... I overlooked the "two for 18"... just assumed it was a "double"... thanks for the correction :thumbsup2

Thanks for saving me more $$ Disney- by forcing me to explore other options!

I feel the same way! For the nights of 5/23 and 5/24, we would spend $400 for POR, $484 for two values, $600+ for a cabin. Instead I have been looking off-site where I can spend $100 and possibly go to Universal or Sea World for 2 days....oh and we will eat off-site too. ;)

This really sucks for people who need strollers. I think this is probably an effort on disney's part to reduce how many strollers there are. I can't see any other reason for such a huge increase in price. I'm not saying it is right, I'm just guessing at why they'd do that and I agree with some of the pp's. I think it will decrease strollers in parks by the way, not every single person that rented will buy one instead, thats just impossible.

There'll be a significant decrease in strollers in parks, or people will pay the increased rental prices. Lots more will bring their own, but it won't make up the gap. Either way, I suspect Disney has predicted this and will be happy with the increased dollars/unit and the decrease in strollers. I see a lot of kids age 5 and up in rented strollers, and I'm sure it makes it easier, but I doubt these parents will buy strollers.

I'm sorry for all those this will effect though :(.

I believe you are correct. Not everyone will buy a stroller. My kids are 3, 5, and 8. I am done buying strollers but would have rented. If we go again, I will not pay these rental costs. So, they will not get stroller money from me and I do not have a stroller that my 5 yr old can fit in. So, I would bring one for my 3 year old and instead of staying in the parks from opening until closing like we normally would do, we would have to either leave for a break in the afternoon, or leave the park earlier in the evening. We drive to the parks so we will most likely go eat off-property since we are leaving the park anyway and it will be cheaper to grab a meal off-site. I get sick of eating disney food for 12 days anyways. We also usually bring bottles of water and snacks into the park in the morning with us but they are usually gone by about noon so we start buying disney's water and snacks from noon until closing. Now, since we will need to leave the park for a break, we can simply bring more water and snacks with us when we return. The way I figure it, disney will lose out on a double stroller rental, most of our drink/snack money and at least one meal every day from a family of 5. That's a lot more money lost each day than they will gain off of the stroller increase. BUT, there will be less strollers in the park.

My guess is that like at DL the rental strollers are taking up too much room in the stroller parking areas and while at parades and shows, as they are usually bulkier than strollers that people bring in. This price increase is likely to reflect the cost of constantly having to move strollers around as a result and to encourage people to bring thier own. I don't think that Disney offered these rentals as money makers, but rather as a convience for their guests (which ends up making them more moeny as that is less time you need to go elsewhere, you can pack more souveniers on the stroller, etc.)

So glad I came across your message. Love the idea and think I will give it a try. Anything is better than submitting to Disney's outragous increases. I feel terrible for those with disabled family members who rely on the ECV's. They have enough to deal with. But just like the abbf you recommended, there are private companies who will deliver the EVC's and pick them up at the end of your stay for much less than Disney is now going to charge!!!

I have jumped on board and emailed Disney direct. Hopefully, if enough of us speak up, they will reconsider and adjust this increase to a much more reasonable rate!

I wonder when the bean counters were figuring how to make more money what per centage of lost rental they used? I certainly can see more folks that drive to WDW taking their own stollers even if its inconvinient with this huge price increase. And how many others will have to cut back on other things such as eating and trinkets inorder to pay for this huge increase. Disney is really getting out of wack with its prices & less services. Remember after 9/11 they discontinued the parade in Epcot due to low attendance. What is their excuse now days?

I am not sure if anyone mention this but I think the double strollers are abused. I think many people with older kids, one kid etc... use them for more room for bags, space, sleeping kids etc.... They take up a TON of room in the park. Maybe by raising the price the abuse will stop. The people that really need double strollers will bring their own or pay the price whether they like it or not. Others will hold their bags, make their 8yr old walk, take breaks and so on. I wish the same thing for ECV's. It is just serious overkill at the parks especially in the summer.

I am not saying it is right to increase the prices and I too have kids so I understand the need for young ones to be in strollers but maybe the abuse will be cut because the people that really need them will bring their own strollers.

I don't think it matters WHO uses a stroller and what there purpose is for renting....EVERYONE pays the same amount of money regardless of what they do with it! I can't stand it when people feel it is their right to judge what the appropriate age is for stroller usage. If Disney didn't want the double strollers in the park they could eliminate them altogether, I hardly see how it could be abuse when they are willing to rent them to whomever is willing to pay!:goodvibes

guess I'm the oddball....13 a day extra for the double, etc. really isn't that big of a deal considering what the whole trip costs (even at 13 extra a day for our 10 day trip next week, it's 1% of our total not including souv's, extras)...

also, strollers are a loss leader for them anyway....for years everyone called them a good deal....well think about what they pay CM's to move those things around all the time and the staff they pay at the rental desk, etc. that factors in to this, it's business

and yes, i use a stroller, for my 4 year old, and i bring my own, but have rented too

**just adding, I did not get the numbers wrong, was pointing out the increase is 13 per day***

The price is going up to $31 per day for a double (or $27 per day if you do a "length of stay" rental). I guess $13 more per day isn't a lot for some, but as a consumer, the price increase to me is shocking for what it is, a double stroller.

You can rent a car for that amount of money.

I think you get your numbers backwards, LOL... It is $31 a day for renting a double not $13.

um, the increase is 13 a day....

Yes.. you are right. I didn't read your post correctly. Sorry.

Ironically, $13 a week is what I need to save from now until my trip in November to be able to rent a double stroller for my twins.

I agree with this to some extent, except for when people renting them for storage prevents people who need them from being able to access them because they are all gone.

I feel the same way about ECVs.

Are you saying that your trip is costing $13,000 plus souvies and extras? ($13 X 10 = $130 which is 1% of $13,000).

WOW!

I leave in 5 days with two young children. O'kay, so raise the rate, but for goodness sake, GIVE SOME NOTICE!
I sent my vent email!
