Yesterday, I saw a show on television about parents who send their toddlers (3 year olds) to boarding school. I felt SO sorry for all those little ones! The principal of the school said they provided a "home feeling", but everything I saw looked very cold and "sterile". Also, the things all those little ones had to do themselves!!! Like make their own suitcase on Thursday evening, to go home on Friday.

One mother said: my DH and I both work fulltime jobs, and we don't come home before 7pm, so this is the best solution. Excuse me? Then why have kids? And 7 pm isn't that late...

But it's also the cheapest solution: it costs 1900 EUR a YEAR for boarding school! (that's about 2700 USD) That includes the food and everything. They drop off the kids on Sunday night and come to pick them up on Friday evening.

Another couple was in a divorce. Since neither of them wanted/ could take care of teh children during the week, they were sent to the boarding school. One out of two weekens they go to mom, the other one to dad.

I don't think I could ever put such a little one in boarding school. Could you?

Some people shouldn't breed.

That just breaks my heart. :sad2: There is absolutely no justification for sending a child away during their formative years. They need their parents-- every day!!!

OMG! the thought of mom or dad not tucking on that sweet baby every night breaks my heart!

I lost track of time the other night, and didn't realize it was 8:30 to go tuck in my DS11. He came up around 8:35 and asked me if he was too old to be tucked in.

WOW, did I feel guilty!!!!

You clearly have never lived with a 3 year old. Where do I sign up?

:rotfl2:

That makes me sad on so many levels. Why bother to have children then?

Based on the poll so far there does not seem to be a real difference of opinion here. Everybody agrees.

Isn't that called an "orphanage"?

Where are those people who think it is a good idea so I can slap them?

Something I have to add!

The principal said: The kids are not unhappy, they don't miss their parents since they are surrounded by their friends. (sure, that's why they were crying and asking where their mommy was when they had to go to bed).
She compared the boarding school with the children going to their grandparents; they don't miss their mommy when they are their either. Right.
She said it was only difficult for the parents who missed their children.
Right.

What's the name of the show? And what country was it in?

Telefacts on VTM (http://www.vtm.be , site is in Dutch of course)
It's in Belgium (Flanders).

I knew that boarding schools were getting more popular again, but had never even thought about children younger than 6 (1st grade) going there. And even 6 is so young!

ya know....there were moments when the twins were 3......

but i could never! i couldn't even send them to preschool at 3.

I didn't see that you were in Belgium.

Oh my goodness! Where do I sign up??????? :lmao: DH and I joke all the time that we want to send our 3yo to boarding school.

Personally, I wouldn't even put a 12yo in boarding school.

3? That's just so sad. :sad2:

I won't even send my DD13 to live with her bio father and she drives me insane! I can't imagine sending a 3 year old away like that. The mere thought of boarding schools for any age boggles my mind though.

DD15 did say that she thought it would be cool to go to a boarding school. I think she's watched too many teenie bopper type movies though, lol.

Good grief! I wouldnt even send a high schooler away! They grow up soon enough. jeeezz!

You need the one for "kleuters" :)

The show it was on, is our version of "Panorama" from BBC. Maybe you get to see some of their shows in the US too. During the summer, Telefacts shows BBC's panorama instead of making their own show.
