3 Years or Less for Member Benefits?

I am in the process of signing my contracts for DVC, and saw the one in the members guidebook that says "special programs (AP discounts, disney collection, golf package discounts etc) for DVC members are available for your use ofr a periiod of 3 years or less after the first date that the vacation ownership plan is available for your use."

so what happens after 3 years?!?!?

There have been no announced cancellations of any of those programs but they are not guaranteed and could cease tomorrow. Don't buy if those are a large part of your plans, not that they should be.

Notice it says "or less". So it's not what will happen after three years but would could happen after tomorrow. That's why I think we should take advantage of the discounts and deals while we have them and really not worry about what we might not have in the future.

i'm trying not to look at it that way, but now knowing what disney did the with AP program nothing would surprise me.

Perks change over the years. They take some away and add others. I think the DVC/AP discount is one of the best perks we have had. The dining discounts are something we always use too, but they are minimal. I'm glad the AP allows us to get DDE now for those dining options.

Sounds more like full disclosure to me. Nobody ever told anybody any of the perks were guaranteed until the end of time.

I believe he's talking about the new change with regards to booking rooms using your AP to a discount on rooms that was just announced. not our DVC AP perk.

Oh! I guess I didn't consider that to be a problem, since we really have no need for AP discounts with DVC.

I'd be willing to bet that language is just normal contract boilerplate that doesn't really apply in your case. Normally, DVC prorates the maintenance fees from your closing date through the end of the year, because maintenance is a calendar year thing. However, with the promotion, they are paying all of the 2005 maintenance, so that language should not apply to you.

Is there some kind of closing statement that shows all of the numbers? If so, that will show exactly what you are responsible for paying.

I haven't received my add-on contract yet, so I'm not certain what you're looking at, but it seems like there should be a cover letter with a person and number to call if you have questions. It should be their Quality Assurance folks, not your guide.

If you don't have a QA number, you can call the main DVC number. They will look up your contract and give you the name and direct phone number of the QA person who is handling your purchase. They'll be able to help you.

It seems to me that the disclaimer in the contract is just that: a disclaimer. Disney added the AP perk after several requests were made by the DVC members. When I initially looked at DVC in '99/'00 this was not available and I couldn't understand why there wasn't a discount, if even a modest one, for theme park tickets. I would have expected at least a discount similiar to Florida residents. It was one of the reasons I didn't buy back then.

This is not to say that they will not change the current perk; however, I have learned to accept that and I also know that the power is with the people. So if it is successful, i.e. the mouse is making money, it will continue.

Anyway, these are just my thoughts.

DVC members have ALWAYS had some form of discount on admission tickets. Early buyers at OKW and VB got free park passes with every OKW stay (thru 1999), but all other members had access to a 10% discount on LOS/UPH admission tickets purchased at the onsite DVC resorts and that program has continued since the end of the free pass program until the current AP/PAP program began this year.

Ar this time, the AP/PAP discount is the only Theme Park discount available to DVC members.

Then the DVC guides I spoke to were ill-informed, because I was told there were no theme park discounts for DVC members. Pardon my ignorance, and I probably should know, but what is UPH?

yes diane, i was talking about the AP room discounts that is now pretty much gone. its a shame since it allowed me to stay at the nicer hotels for a "decent" rate. fortunately, i have DVC now so i dont worry about it. but you are right, the AP discount with DVC is superb. i really hope that one lasts. it only makes sense to offer that discount with the amount of time DVC members spend at Disney. the $100 off is $100 that i would spend in the parks anyway.

I totally agree. We buy APs anyway, but we have always used an AP for 366 days and then taken a year off rather than renew. Now with the better renewal discount, we will probably not be taking a year off anymore.

The other thing about the AP's, from Disney's standpoint, is all the DDE sales and especially DDE dining that discount will generate. I think that will be substantial, and probably reason enough for them to continue the AP discount for some time.
