3 Years or Less for Member Benefits?

... Pardon my ignorance, and I probably should know, but what is UPH?

UPH was Ultimate Park Hopper and Unlimited Park Hopper - a couple of the evolution of names for the old LOS (Length of Stay) passes. They were all basically the same program- just different names for the product. They began offering the 10% DVC discount on these passes when HH began sales in 1995 and continued with BWV thru SSR until the beginning of this year.

Don't buy DVC for the perks, you will only be disappointed when they change or with something not offered.

We used the UPH discount, and don't travel enough for the AP to be worthwhile even with the discount and DDE. (We are still ahead, the MYW tickets are cheaper than the UPH used to be for similar tickets, so this isn't a complaint on my part). Discounts will be subject to change, and Disney will use them to drive behavior where they want it. That may be restaurant discounts for less popular restaurants instead of blanket discounts. (Why give anyone a discount at Cindy's for breakfast, they could fill a restaurant twice as big with people willing to pay full price). If we spend a lot without discounts, there may not be a lot of incentive to give us discounts. Yeah, we may spend more, but it becomes difficult to make more profit, since you decrease your margin - and margin is everything.

Currently, a lot of members (including myself) would like to see MYW dining extended to DVC members. Perhaps it will be, perhaps it won't. (I think I still get a great deal on my room, but won't turn up my nose at saving more money).

Disney added the AP perk after several requests were made by the DVC members.
Don't get too carried away with WHY Disney added the perk. My guess is it had nothing to do with DVC members requests and more with the bottom line to Disney. I think Disney in general has been pretty disinterested in what DVC members ask for.

Then the DVC guides I spoke to were ill-informed, because I was told there were no theme park discounts for DVC members.
IMO, that is not an uncommon happening. While the guides are usually well informed, they are not always so. And their focus may not be the same as yours. I do think that most "poor information" that comes from DVC is that of omission and lines of thinking that don't line up. But there has been a certain amount of disinformation over the years from both MS and the guides. And certainly what they guides say has no meaning if it's not in the legal paperwork.
