About to book a 3 week break at the end of May 2017. As it is a free dining offer from the UK a split stay is not possible. AKL and a studio in SSR are both within budget. I have stayed at AKL before and loved it but a relative of mine thinks 3 weeks at AKL would a bit much and believes SSR would be the better option. He has stayed at both many times. We have a 15 year old daughter and 2 year old son. We have always preferred a hotel over a villa but this will be my sons first trip and this will change the dynamic I guess. Its a nice dilemma to have, but I'd apprecaite any thoughts or advice.

Cheers

I would not choose to live in a studio for three weeks. But then, I would not choose to live in one hotel room for three weeks either. A one bedroom would be nice, but if it's not in your budget, go with AKL instead. The studio at SSR will only have one queen bed and one double sleeper sofa and a pack and play for your son. At least the AKL hotel room would have two queen beds. Or one queen bed and a set of bunk beds.

I agree with Deb & Bill. I would not want to be a family of 4 in a studio for 3 weeks. At least at AKL you will have two real beds or a queen and a bunk bed (which might be ideal for your family)

I have to agree with the others as nice as a kitchenette sounds for a 3 week trip I wouldn't want to be the one sleeping on the fold out couch for that long.

The bunk beds would give you more floor space if your daughter doesn't mind climbing up and down the ladder for 3 weeks.

Split stay, in a villa, at AKL and SSR.

That was my first thought when I read the title but the OP said it is not an option with their package:(
OP; I would also have to agree with the majority and pick a room with 2 real beds over a studio. Plus, I think with the 2 year old, the animals might be a good distraction if he has a rough day:) Also; with going 3 weeks there could be a good chance of a rainy day or 2 and at AKL you can go down to the lobby without going outside and do some activities there.

I'd do AKL based on size, bedding set up. I find the resort calming/serene and with that long of a trip, I think that'd be nice after being in parks/crowds.
Enjoy!

Thanks for the replies folks, interesting. I was all for AKL initially but then I have no experience staying at SSR. Ideally a split stay would be great but as I say the free dining offer from the UK makes it impossible ( unless you pay an absolute fortune )

I would think about SSR for the easy access to disney springs. over the long term there is way more to do there than akl. you can also take a boat to other resorts from the ds.

I LOVE AKL and have no experience staying at SSR.

I get folks issue of sofabed to real bed, but when my kids were 15 they would have been fine anywhere.

BUT I think the biggest issue here is 3 WEEKS!

In 3 weeks:
- I would be miserable living on two beds during down time - SSR provides you a couch to lounge. True living space. Big difference in comfort.
- I would really appreciate the kitchenette! The money saved on some in room breakfasts could be spent elsewhere. And convenience, especially with a toddler.
- Dining Options are much wider with Disney Springs right there and the great ease in getting to other resorts with the DS Bus Depot.
- That is a long time at resort and the activities get important. SSR has Bikes, Surreys, Jogging Trails, Tennis, Basketball. One of AKL negatives is lack of activity.
- Disney Springs is a wonderful expansion to your resort and always great for in-between time.
