3 WDW Trips in 6 months: August, October and December Reports *Completed*

This is really fun! I just stumbled across this report. I will admit I just jumped to the TR for this Christmas trip, so I don't know any of the background. What days were you there? I am hoping to take a preholiday trip in the future and I'm loving all your pictures!

You took some great pictures of things in One Man's Dream that I haven't noticed before. :goodvibes

I love the Monster with the sock on his back, too cute!

Nice update!
One Man's Dream is one of my favorite attractions at DHS :thumbsup2 I love the pics you took there!

Thanks Dawn. One Man's Dream really is such a neat spot at the Studios. I always enjoy getting to look through it.

Hi and welcome! :welcome: Our Christmas trip was roughly a week and a half before Chriatmas. Can't remember the exact dates off the top of my head. It was fairly crowded but not nearly as crowded as Christmas week or New Years week. We tend to go there almost every year around that time and really love how festive it is. If you can manage to go a week or two before that though the crowds are even lower, but we really couldn't manage it this year due to everyone's schedule. Glad you're enjoying the pictures.

Thanks LL. I feel like I notice new things every time I got to One Man's Dream. Between the amount of stuff they have and the way they're always switching things out, it's like there's always something new or different to see.

I loved the Monster with the sock too. I think that was my favorite detail I noticed in the whole parade.

Great update! We saw the Block Party Bash in Disneyland (it was kind of interesting because there they did it at night) and haven't gotten a chance to see the whole thing again. Definitely on the list for April.

Glad you enjoyed the American Idol Experience! :thumbsup2

I love that D23 display because, umm, that's pretty much how my house is going to look...

Thanks. Block Party Bash at night does sound interesting. I bet it looks really cool.

Thanks for all your imput about American Idol whiel I was planning. I really wasn't sure it was something that all of us would enjoy, but it certainly was. :thumbsup2

 about the D23 display.

The Christmas decorations in the Streets of America look really good, especially the Muppet one! (Had to the Muppets!)

Shame about the Caspian meet and greet going - it was a really cool one. I'm still really disappointed that Disney aren't making anymore of the films - I was a real Narnia freak when I was younger (kept hoping to find a 'doorway!). Still, at least Dawn Treader is being made - keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of the series as well.

We've still to see One Man's Dream - this year! The castle at Disneyland Paris is meant to be lovely, if the striking French CMs let you in the park to see it. ;)

I thought it was really nice that they had some decorations on the Street that really looked nice in the day time too instead of having just lights all over them. The Muppet one might just be my favorite, although I loved the surfing one too.

Yeah, I'm a little bummed that the Caspian meet-and-greet is gone too. I thought it was one of the best set-ups they've had for a character, and Caspian was always so awesome.

You've ner seen One Man's Dream? Oh, you really must see it next time. :thumbsup2

monsters1-600.jpg

After One Man’s Dream, I headed off to Monstropolis, or at least a reasonable facsimile. I hadn’t been to the new Monsters Inc. location near the AFI Showcase before and was looking forward to it. The line wasn’t too bad, maybe a 15 minute wait at the most.

monsters2-600.jpg

The theming in the queue was great- not as elaborate as at the Laugh Floor at Magic Kingdom, but still a lot of fun. I loved that the magazine from the movie with Mike’s face covered by the bar code was up on one of the bulletin boards along with a note from “Pete D.” (I’m guessing a reference to Monsters Inc. director Pete Doctor).

monsters3-600.jpg

Mike and Sully. The one thing that I really didn’t like the location was that the entrance, exit and part of the queue is right behind where the characters pose for photos so you can easily get random people in the background of your shot. This shot in particular too a little cropping to get some random people out which caused me to take most of Sully’s hands out of the shot.

monsters4-600.jpg

I ended up liking the closer, individual shots better. It was just too tough to try to get giant Sully and tiny Mike together for a photo and not having random people staring in the background.

monsters5-600.jpg

:sulley:

After leaving Monstropolis, I tried to find the rest of the family and noticed Dad sitting on a bench (not too unusual) outside the AFI Showcase. He seemed to think that Mom and Buzz were inside, so I went in.

enchanted1-600.jpg

Inside, I couldn’t seem to find Buzz or Mom, but while I was there, I spent some time checking out some of the costumes from Enchanted on display in the Villains exhibit. Enchanted has to be one of my favorite of the more recent Disney films, and I wish it had more of a presence in the parks. It would have been so much fun to have Giselle and Prince Edward out doing meet-and-greets or some sort of Enchanted street show on the Streets of America.

enchanted2-600.jpg

enchanted3-600.jpg

enchanted4-600.jpg

It turns out that Buzz and Mom were actually out on the Street listening to Mulch Sweat and Shears, so we all managed to meet up and figure out what to do next since we still had a little time before the Osborne Nights got turned on. Star Tours got suggested. I don’t think Mom and Dad had heard before we got to the park that day that they were going to be closing the ride pretty soon to replace it with Star Tours 2, so when they found that out, they definitely wanted to do it just in case this is our last chance to do the original.

startours1-600.jpg

There was absolutely no line to speak of at Star Tours. We just had to walk right through the queue and were directed right to loading area to watch the safety video (and a little bit of trivia that I found out before the trip, the flight attendant in the movie that gives the safety speil is actually Jenifer Lewis who voices Mama Odie in The Princess and the Frog and Flo in Cars).

startours2-600.jpg

Star Tours was fun, as usual. It should be interesting to see what they do to it over the next few years though. We spent a little bit of time looking around the gift shop at the exit before moving on.

osborneintro1-600.jpg

Not long after Star Tours, it was time for the Osborne Lights to be turned on. The Street looked gorgeous all lit up with all the dancing lights. Certainly a crowd pleaser!

Really? Last I read(about a year ago) they were doing all the movies and had already started on the next one.

Another great update! I love the pics of the osborne lights!

I love the Enchanted pics! That was such a fun movie and I agree that something Giselle related would be a nice addition!

Looking forward to more Osborne Lights pics!

Thanks. There's more Osborne Lights photos on the way.

Yes, I think Di is right. Another studios picked up the Narnia films and will be making them withour Disney. I think they've announced Dawn Treader but not any others quite yet. That's just what I seem to remember hearing, though.

Thanks Dawn. Doesn't it seem like doing more with Enchanted in the parks would be such a natural idea? I just think that would be so much fun.

Hopefully the rest of my Osborne pictures will be up by the end of the week. I'm really hoping to finish Day Two before it's March.

I agree with you! I wish that Enchanted had more things in the parks. I don't understand why they don't have Giselle out doing meet and greets. :confused3

Hmm. I seem to have missed a few updates...

I loved seeing all the kitschy decorations!

 Gotta love Miss Piggy... the original DIVA!

:santa: What a great shop... wish it was a bit bigger, though!

streetsofamerica6-600.jpg

I figured that the Muppets must have had something to do with decorating this fire escape. Who else would use rubber chickens and pink feather boas in the same display?

I will definitely be on the lookout for this!

I thought it was cool to see all the different Monsters Inc. characters that don’t normally get out anywhere else like this guy.

bpb9-600.jpg

23-19!

Poor George!

So glad they didn't completely cancel the parade... there are some really great characters in it!

Another attraction we've yet to try... sounds like your family enjoyed it!

After the show, we headed off to one of my favorite smaller attraction in the parks- One Man’s Dream. Seeing all of the artifacts and memorabilia is always so fascinating.

I agree! If you are a Disney fan and enjoy museums, this is a not-to-be-missed attraction. :goodvibes

Slowly catching up......

Maybe someday she will be. We can always hold out hope.

Hey Kathy. Great to "see" you back. :)

Yeah, I was really happy that we got to see Block Party Bash. Having it get rained out for us two years in a row would have been a bummer.

You know, we really did enjoy American Idol. I don't want to talk it up too much because it really isn't the most spectacular thing you'll see at Disney, but it was still a fun little deversion. I'd say it's worth a try on your next trip.

osbornecont1-600.jpg

After an initial Dancing Lights segment, the crowd began strolling down the Streets of America to view the lights.

osbornecont2-600.jpg

osbornecont3-600.jpg

Mickey and Santa.

osbornecont4-600.jpg

After a while, we began to notice a couple of things missing from the display that are usually staples- snow and dancing lights. Not long after that, announcements starting being played between songs that while the forecast for tonight had originally called for snow, it had been changed to rain. Also, due to the weather, the lights would remain static and not dance. A bit of a drag, but snow or no snow, the lights were still gorgeous.

osbornecont5-600.jpg

osbornecont6-6002.jpg

A hidden Mickey and Minnie in lights.

By this point, the newly-forecasted rain began to get increasingly hard to the point where I didn’t want to keep my camera out in the wet weather, which explains the lack of pictures over near the Lights Motors Action area of the Street.

osbornecont7-600.jpg

Before the trip, I had read somewhere that a leg-shaped lamp reminiscent of the one in A Christmas Story (one of our favorite Holiday films) was hidden in one of the windows in the San Francisco Street, so when we made it to that point, we searched it out and found it! It’s really hard to see it in the photo, but if you look really carefully in window you can see it. The rain had let up somewhat so I was ok with trying to get a shot of it. It actually turned out to be one of my favorite photos of the entire trip. And, although it’s not in the shot, there was also something especially interesting for Dad, our Nightmare Before Christmas fan, just under the window- a hidden Jack Skellington.

osbornecont8-600.jpg

One last look at the Osborne Lights before we headed on. Mom and Dad decided that they wanted to go back to French Quarter for the rest of the evening, so they stopped by Package Pick-Up to get the shirt that Dad had bought earlier in the day and took the bus back to Port Orleans. Buzz and I, on the other hand, had one more thing we wanted to do before joining them back at the resort- the Tower of Terror.

tot1-600.jpg

The wait wasn’t too bad- somewhere around 30 or so minutes. While we were waiting , we could hear the Villains segments from Fantastmic which gave the experience even more of an ominous feel. Nothing like a little Night on Bald Mountain and constant villainous laughter to set the mood. :maleficen

tot2-600.jpg

Tower of Terror is certainly my favorite attraction, but I think it also has my absolute favorite queue in all of Disney. Such great theming and atmosphere!

tot3-600.jpg

tot4-600.jpg

tot6-600.jpg

tot7-600.jpg

Of course, the regular elevator was out of order, so we had to use the service elevator. As usual, it was a fantastic ride, but I honestly have to say it wasn’t the best ride-through I’ve ever had on the Tower. About half of the people in our elevator were teenagers that were a part of a tour group who talked, chanted and shouted through the entire first part of the ride which kind of ruins the storytelling and spooky mood. Still, the drop sequence was still fantastic. I’d never done the Tower of Terror at night so it was really neat to experience it in a new way- especially since it gave really beautiful views of the Osborne Lights below.

tot8-600.jpg

I’ve always been a little intrigued by the Sunset Room over by the exit of the attraction. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if you could really go in and see what was inside?

tot9-600.jpg

5and10window-600.jpg

After the ride, Buzz and I headed back towards the exit and took the bus back to Port Orleans to join Mom and Dad in getting some dinner at the Floatworks. Mom and I both ended up getting the Chicken Jambalaya which was good. Buzz got a Muffuletta, and I don’t remember exactly what Dad got… maybe fried chicken (again, I really should write these sorts of things down next time). We ended up getting our orders to-go and went back to Mom and Dad’s room to eat and relax after a somewhat wet day at the Studios.

Next Chapter: On to Day Three! Will more rain spoil our plans for EPCOT?

I love that you went looking for the leg lamp (Fra-gi-le!) and that Dad found a hidden Jack Skellington!

We saw the Osbourne Lights once and I never thought to look for Hidden Mickeys. :headache: Glad you didn't get totally rained out.

Just hearing about the Cajun food from Floatworks is making me hungry!

On to Day Three!

The hunt for the "major award" leg lamp was really fun. We got a big kick out of it (no pun intended  )

That Cajun food is really one of the perks of the French Quarter (and to a degree Riverside as well). It really helps make Floatworks one of my favorite resort food courts at Disney.

I love the leg lamp!! I might be able to talk DH into going just to see that. LOL!

Wow, your DH must be some Christmas Story fan if the leg lamp alone will convince him of a trip. Just a word of warning though, it's not as racy as the one in the movie (not flesh-colored and no fishnets) if that's why he's interested  , but it is a leg lamp in the window nonetheless.

I see you guys are in Ohio. I heard that there's a museum in the house where they filmed part of A Christmas Story in Cleveland. You guys ever been there?

Day Three! Today was our day at EPCOT, so, as usual, we got up early in order to be at the park by rope drop. Based on the weather report for that morning, we were in for another wet day with a forecast of 100% chance of rain. :scared: Once we realized what we had in store for us, we considered changing around some of our plans, and Mom and Dad weren’t even sure if they wanted to spend the morning at French Quarter and not join Buzz and I at EPCOT until World Showcase was open. In the end, we all decided to just go ahead and all head to EPCOT or rope drop- or, at least, that was the plan.

We had breakfast over at the Floatworks. No beignets today, but I did get myself a cheese Danish, something I seem to have to get at least once a trip. As we were eating, the skies seemed to get darker and darker and by the time we were all ready to head to the bus stop, it began to pour down rain. Not wanting to rush out and wait for the rope drop in the pouring rain, we changed our plan a bit and just hung out in the lobby for a while, checking out the Christmas decorations again and looking through the gift shop. I’m a bit surprised that I took no photos from this time, but it was dark raining so maybe I thought it wasn’t that photogenic of a moment. After a while, the rain began to let up, and we finally made it to EPCOT. It looked like we were going to make it there for opening after all!

epcotentrance1-600.jpg

The entrance to the park was decked out in Christmas regalia. The globe ornaments seem very fitting, don’t they?

epcotentrance2-600.jpg

A Christmas topiary display just beyond the turnstiles. This was our first time going to EPCOT at Christmastime in three years, and I’m pretty sure they’ve really expaned this garden from then, if I can remember correctly.

epcotentrance3-600.jpg

epcotentrance4-600.jpg

epcotentrance5-600.jpg

epcotentrance6-600.jpg

Something a little different than your standard Spaceship Earth shots, I guess.

epcotentrance7-6002.jpg

By now, the weather seemed to be letting up some, or at least just enough to where the characters were coming out. Daisy and Stitch were hanging out near Spaceship Earth, so since I hadn’t seem Miss Daisy yet this year, I decided to pay her a visit.

epcotentrance8-600.jpg

We must have missed the rope drop ceremony due to being distracted by the topiaries and characters (either than or they didn’t do it because of the weather), because when we made it past Spaceship Earth, Future World was completely open. Buzz and I had been hoping to hit some of the thrill rides in EPCOT this morning since we tend not to do them a whole lot, so we went off towards Test Track while Mom and Dad headed to The Land to ride their favorite attraction, Soarin’.

thrills1-600.jpg

When we got to Test Track, it turned out to be closed due to technical issues, so we just grabbed some FastPasses for later and headed off to Mission SPACE.

thrills2-600.jpg

Buzz and I had only done the spinning version of Mission SPACE (Orange) once before after it first opened, so we decided to try it again. After a slightly less than magical experience with the CM at the entrance who literally scoffed when I asked to do the more intense version of the ride and then claimed that neither version is intense (What is it with CMs at Mission SPACE? I think I’ve experienced more snarky or disinterested CMs there than any other attraction. :confused3), we headed in to find absolutely no line for the ride!

thrills3-600.jpg

A tribute to Horizons, the attraction that use to be where SPACE is now. I actually never went on it when it was open, and I kind of regret that now since I’ve heard so many good things about it from other Disney fans. I always thought it looked kind of creepy from what I had heard about it when I was a kid, so I wouldn’t try it.

The ride turned out to be fun and, regardless of what the CM at the entrance said, it was intense- more so than I remembered. You really do feel those g-forces bearing down on you!

thrills4-600.jpg

A few shots of the Mickey statue in the gift shop on the way out. First a more artsy one.

thrills5-600.jpg

And then a more standard shot.

thrills6-600.jpg

We still had a little more time before out FastPass time at Test Track, so we decided to hit up the new Sum Of All Thrills, the new design-your-own-thrill-ride attraction in Innoventions. I figured that we would build a roller coaster, but Buzz thought that since we were just did Rock ‘n Roller Coaster the day before, we should do something different that we wouldn’t get anywhere else at Disney. Since it was Christmastime, we picked a bobsled ride. It turned out to be pretty fun.

thrills7-600.jpg

By the time we were done with Sum of All Thrills, it was time to use our FastPasses for Test Track. In the end, we didn’t really need them. There was pretty much no standby wait at all! I was pretty shocked at how empty the park was, especially considering how busy Hollywood Studios was the day before. It seemed like the rain was really keeping people away that morning. The ride was fun. It had been five years since we had last done it (can’t believe we hadn’t been on it in that long!) so it was nice to be able to rediscover it. The loop around the building at the end was still great, and it’s neat to get those different views of the park (both onstage and backstage) that you can see from it. Having accomplished the three main thrills on that side of Future World, we decided to call up Mom and Dad to see what they were up to.

Next chapter: A surprise sighting of a rare character!
