3 WDW Trips in 6 months: August, October and December Reports *Completed*

Hi Meeko,

The Wave looked really nice and the food sounded lovely. Sounds a bit posh though for us having the kids - was there any children when you were there, or is it more of a 'grown up's only' restaurant?

Loving all the photos of POFQ, especially with all the Princess and the Frog details. Saw the film last week so I can really relate to them more now!

I can almost smell the biegnets! :cloud9: But no photos of them? ;)

Di x

Hey Di!

The Wave did have more of an adult feel, but I do remember seeing a number of tables with kids throughout the restaurant as well. They also had kids menus to color and the little drinks with the glow-in-the-dark character toys attacthed to them, so there were things for them.

No, I didn't get any photos fo the beignets this trip. They went straight into our mouths, so no time to get a picture. The beignet photo from August will just have to do for this trip report as well.

A little before rope drop, the crowds started to be allowed on Hollywood Boulevard. As we walked down the street to the rope, I took the opportunity to take a few pictures of some of the billboards above the buildings. Before leaving, I had seen an article about them on some Disney site, and it inspired me to check them out more.

dhsropedrop2-600.jpg

I’ve always wished that the Studios had a Red Car that went down Hollywood and Sunset. They’re putting one in at Disney’s California Adventure soon I hear, so maybe there’s hope for us yet.

dhsropedrop3-600.jpg

Hollywood Canteen.

dhsropedrop4-600.jpg

dhsropedrop5-600.jpg

A look down Hollywood Boulevard from our spot for the opening show.

dhsropedrop6-600.jpg

Just a bit of trivia about this window above Hollywood Boulevard: Lend A Paw was also the title of Mickey Mouse’s only Oscar-winning cartoon.

dhsropedrop7-600.jpg

Finally, it was time for the opening cerimonies! It was scaled back a little from the last time we saw it (no family of the day), but still great. The Streetmosphere actors are always a lot of fun. Paige Turner the script girl was steeling the show again. She’s got to be one of my favorites of the Citizens of Hollywood. Got to love her mix of Lucille Ball and Kristin Chenoweth, not to mention her catch phrase “Remember, I’m not a wanna-be, I’m a gonna-be!”

dhsropedrop8-600.jpg

PIXAR Place would be our first stop for the day, so we joined the crowds heading in that direction. Along the way, I noticed some detail on the archway.

dhsropedrop9-600.jpg

The Studios wanted to remind you about The Princess and the Frog too.

tsm1-600.jpg

The Green Army Men were on call to direct people to Toy Story Mania, as well as photographs. First meet-and-greet character of the trip! I’d never seen them out as face characters before. Usually they just have a blank green mask over their faces. I thought it really added to the characters.

tsm2-600.jpg

The line for Toy Story Mania stretched far outside the building, but didn’t seem too much longer that the FastPass line!

tsm3-600.jpg

Once we got to the part inside portion of the queue, they were telling everyone the wait was at least an hour! :scared1: Somehow, that didn’t seem right. An hour wait at rope drop?

tsm4-600.jpg

The line moved pretty quickly though.

tsm5-600.jpg

Of course, the highlight of the wait is always the ever-entertaining Mr. Potato Head.

tsm7-600.jpg

tsm8-600.jpg

In the end, we ended up waiting about 25 minutes to ride. Not too bad and certainly not the hour-long wait we were promised. It was a fun ride. I think I’ve improved since last time. Buzz got the highest score out of all of us, as usual. I still think this has to be the best new addition to the park in a long time.

tsm9-600.jpg

After the ride, the rest of the family wanted to take pictures and check out the little gift shop outside, so I used the opportunity to see if Prince Caspian was at his meet-and-greet location since it was right next to Toy Story Mania and he was one of the characters I was hoping to see on this trip. Turned out he wasn’t there yet and couldn’t promise when we would be back except maybe at 10am. I figured I’d try again later. Buzz and I wanted to hit Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster next, so Mom and Dad decided to do a little shopping on Hollywood while we rode.

Next chapter: The longest wait of the trip- Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster or the UP characters?

I love Paige Turner she is always so cute!

I like the Green Army Man with a face better! I'd think the old way might be scary to some kids.

Glad you enjoyed my favorite thing at DS-TSM! :lovestruc

Great update! That is interesting about the one window on Hollywood Blvd. I love how they incorporate all those details.

TSM is one of my favorites!! :thumbsup2

Nice to know I'm not the only Paige Turner fan out there. She's always so funny. Forgot to mention that she worked in wanted to audition for the American Idol Experience into her spiel this time around. Gotta love it.

Yeah, the faceless Army Men are a little wierd- especially considering they did have faces in the movies.

Thanks Sarah. I love finding those little details. And yes, I think I'd say Toy Story Mania is one of my favorites too, but I like so many of the rides at DHS that it's hard to choose.

Great pictures of the toy story ride, I am yet to go on it. I'm a huge fan of toy story and I'm looking forward to riding it later in the year. When I was there during Christmas we decided not to go to Hollywood Studios.

Hi! Welcome to the report. :wave2: Glad you liked the photos. Toy Story Mania is a blast. I'm sure you'll have a great time on it.

After splitting up from Mom and Dad, Buzz and I headed off toward Sunset Boulevard.

volm-600.jpg

Along the way, I noticed that they’ve redone the sign at the Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Looks pretty nice.

sunset1-600.jpg

Sunset Boulevard! This has to be one of my favorite areas in all of the Disney parks. The retro 1940s feel of the area is fantastic- not to mention the attractions!

sunset2-600.jpg

Along the way, I popped into the Villains shop to get a pic of Maleficent glaring out the window.

sunset3-600.jpg

Ahh… my favorite attractions in Walt Disney World- the Tower of Terror. But that’s now where we were going now. Instead, we made our way to the…

rrc1-600.jpg

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. If you can believe it, Buzz and I had only been on this ride once before and that was three years ago! At the entrance, the standby wait was listed as 30 minutes, so we decided to just go ahead and get in line. After all, 30 minutes isn’t too bad.

rrc2-600.jpg

The funny thing is, there wasn’t a line per se. They were running a test for a queue-less wait system, so as you enter the stand by entrance, you’re given a “Tour Ticket” with a number on it and and told to wait in the “Festival” area directly in front of the attraction.

rrc3-600.jpg

When your number comes up on this screen, you can proceed into the main building. However, when we checked out number on the screen, it was listed in the “50 minutes of less” section! :scared1: A bit longer than we expected! We debated jumping out of “line” and getting Fast Passes, but for some reason, we decided to stick it out. I think we were a little confused by the whole new queue system.

rrc4-600.jpg

Of course, there were things to do while in the Festival. There was a DJ who played some rock tunes and hosted trivia games and challenges. There were a few machines set up for guests to be able to play Rock Band which I’m sure was fun for those who enjoy that. Of course, there were plenty of carts selling refreshments, souvenirs and face painting along with the ride’s gift shop providing a captive audience ways to dispense of some cash which I’m sure the merchandising department loves. All in all, the queue-less wait system seems like a good idea, but has its problems. Perhaps most of all, the Festival area needed some shade and more benches! Standing for almost an hour outside for over an hour in Florida just isn’t ideal. It may have been December, but it was still sunny and a bit warm (actually, the sunniest, warmest weather of the trip, go figure). Between that and the fact that the actual wait was quite a bit longer than the entrance sign said it would be, looking back, I wish we had left and gotten Fast Passes. Oh, well.

rrc5-600.jpg

Once out number was called, we headed inside to wait in another queue (again, ). By the time we finally got to boarding out limo, we had waited pretty much an hour. Even though the wait was long, I did enjoy the ride. The blast-off at the beginning is amazing, and I love all the scenery along the way. It sort of brings to mind what you’d get if you combined Peter Pan’s Flight and Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride and made it a roller coaster. Great fun. Once the ride was over, we met up with Mom and Dad who were over by the Victory Garden at the Farmers Market taking pictures. They had been spending some time doing some shopping and watching Streetmosphere. Dad even bought a shirt to wear at EPCOT the next day to replace one of the ones he left at home. Next on the agenda was The Magic of Disney Animation, so we head over to check it out. Since we were there last, they added a new entrance that takes you right into the main area bypassing the Mushu movie so you don’t have to go in through the exit at the gift shop if you want to ship it. Works for us.

up1-600.jpg

My main goal for Animation was, of course, to see the UP characters which I had not gotten to meet beofre. I was really hoping to get there by 10am when they were scheduled to come out to avoid the long lines, but as it turned out, we didn’t get to it until 11am. Buzz started off joining we, but realizing before I did just how long the wait would be, he ended up bailing fairly quickly. While I was in line, Buzz, Mom and Dad ended up doing a little exploring in the Animation building. Buzz and Dad even made it over to PIXAR Place to see the Luxo Jr. animatronics that bounces around the roofs there now. Wish I could have seen it too since none of us ever had, but as you might guess from this report’s title of “Wet Chistmas”, those blue skies didn’t stick around for long and Luxo doesn’t come out in the rain. Maybe next time.

up2-600.jpg

After about 45 minutes, I finally made it to the front of the line to see the UP characters. While my autograph book was going around to get signed, I got some individual shots of the characters. First up was my favorite- Dug! I’m by no means a dog person, but even I have to admit that Dug was extremely adorable in the film.

up3-600.jpg

Next was Russell who posed with Kevin.

russell-auto600.jpg

Russell’s autograph.

up4-6002.jpg

The characters were pretty cool, but I think Kevin was the biggest surprise of the meet-and-greet. When I went to take Carl’s photo, she disappeared from where she was and popped out to pose with Carl.

carldug-auto600.jpg

Dug wanted to sign his autograph below his new master’s.

up5-6002.jpg

A group shot with everyone (including Kevin!) I’m glad I got to see the Up crew, but I wish the line wasn’t so long. I had heard they were popular, but wasn’t expecting to wait as long for them as I did for the Fairies! By this time, it was almost time for our ADR at the 50s Prime Time and Buzz and Dad had already headed towards the restaurant. After a pair of fairly long waits, some rest and relaxation at the Prime Time sounded like a good idea.

I love Paige Turner! She's so cute. I was able to see her on one of my DHS days. :thumbsup2

I think that new queue system for Aerosmith seems confusing. :confused3

I just have to tell you that Jen and I LOVED the French Quarter. :lovestruc

Just got caught up on your DHS day!! What fun was had!!! Loved your rope drop pictures and pictures of the billboards!! I have never seen that window before I'm going to have to find it next trip!! What great trivia!!

That queue system looks like it needs some of the kinks worked out of it before going live...but I'm glad you enjoyed the trip!!

Aren't the UP characters fantastic...I love that movie!

Hi Meeko!

Enjoyed the updates and all the photos! Not too sure about the new queueing system for RnRC, a FP still sounds a bit quicker!

The characters for UP look really good, as do the 'new style' Green Army Man. :)

Hi Meeko!

I haven't had a chance to stop by any of your reports in the past, but now I'm glad that I did! :goodvibes

I love all your pictures and commentary. POFQ is my favorite mod; so lovely all decorated for Christmas... and the Princess and the Frog touches are a natural addition of course!

So far it's been sunny and nice for you; I'm hoping you didn't get too wet.

Looking forward to more!

Welcome back LL! I can't wait to read your and Jen's trip report. I just knew that you'd love French Quarter.

Nice to hear that you got to see Paige too. And as far as the new queue system goes, it was really confusing. It was a little entertaining but seemed to complicate things too.

Welcome back to you too Jen! Glad you liked the pics at rope drop. And for the window, it's over on the left side of Hollywood Boulevard (the side that has the Mickey's of Hollywood shop). There's a bunch more funny windows all up and down the street as well, but that one stuck out to me because of the trivia.

Yeah, I'm hopong the kinks get worked out on the queue. It's a cool idea, but needs a few tweeks- especially making sure the wait time sign at the entrance was synchronized with the actual return times. Couldn't spoil the ride experience though.

The UP characters really were great. They looked like they had just walked off the screen.

:yay: for the UP gang! Some of my favorite charachters! :goodvibes

Hey Dawn. I think I'm with you on that one, especially Dug. :dog2:

Hi Di.

Yeah, I have to admit, FastPass is the way to go. Not only are you not confined to the Festival courtyard, but you also bipass most of the indoor queue giving you a much short wait there. Still kicking myself a little for not bailing and just getting a FastPass, but I guess at least it gave us a new experience.

Yeah, the UP characters and Green Army Men did look great. I think that the PIXAR characters almost always seem to look really good when they're appearing in the parks, and these guys were no exception. :thumbsup2

Hi Kathy! Welcome to the report! :welcome:

Port Orleans is my favorite moderate resort too, abd I really think that the Chriastmas decorations and Princess and the Frog touches just made it even more fun that usual.

Unfortunatly, we've seen most of the sunny times of the trip already. The sun will make a few quick appearences here and there, but we're almost to the point where the "Wet Christmas" title really fits the report.

Hmm, that is really interesting about the RNRC line! Are they still doing it?
