3 WDW Trips in 6 months: August, October and December Reports *Completed*

Hi Meeko!

Great updates and photos, i didn't realise there was kangaroos at AK, I'll need to look out for them next year.

Cute photos with Pooh and friends, it's good to see the characters really interacting and having a laugh!

Hey Di!

AK is truly full of surprises, including kangaroos apparently.

Pooh and friends were so much fun. I'm glad we got to see them before the rain came through.

chesterdino-600.jpg

As soon as the rain came pouring down Buzz and rushed to the nearest cover we could think of- Chester and Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures. There, we hoped to wait out the storm, or at least wait until the rain let up a little and we could move on.

mickeypuppet-600.jpg

Although there’s a lot of detail in the shop (like this marionette Mickey), it’s pretty small and I was getting anxious to see what else there was to do. I ran over to DINOSAUR- in the pouring rain, mind you- to see what the wait times are. Turned out to be longer than I was willing to wait so I went back to Chester and Hester’s, found Buzz and dried off. I should have put on my poncho first! :rolleyes2

dinoramastatue-600.jpg

Outside, Dino-Rama was fairly abandoned. All the rides had closed due to the storm.

triceratopsspin-600.jpg

Eventually, some people started to brave going out, and so did we. Leaving Dinoland, we headed back to Discovery Island. We were hoping to have time to do It’s Tough To Be A Bug, and fortunately it had no line.

beautyandthebees-600.jpg

I’m a bit of a musical theater geek, so I love the all the posters inside the waiting area. “Beauty and the Bees” is one of my favorite.

antie-600.jpg

toughtobeabig-600.jpg

Last but not least- tonight’s show. We had a good time. I knew not to breathe when the stinkbug came out and to not sit too far back in the chair so not to get stung. I felt bad for all the first timers who have to endure that. :sad2:

treehedgehog-600.jpg

Along the exit path, we lingered to see more of the carvings in the Tree of Life.

treepeacock-600.jpg

treerabbit-600.jpg

I think that this one’s a rabbit, but I’m not sure.

It was getting to park closing time, so we decided to start heading towards the exit and meet Mom and Dad back at Riverside for some dinner. Along the way, I checked the shops for that John Smith “Disney Princes” pressed penny. I knew I had read that it was in one of those shops, but could not find it. Maybe next time. Eventually, we made it to the Oasis. Buzz got a few shots of some of the animals (I didn’t have any luck; it was too dark for me).

akdedication-600.jpg

Right before exiting, we found the park’s dedication plaque. We had recently been wondering where it was at the Animal Kingdom. For the curious, it’s in the Oasis pretty much right in front of you before you go either left or right after going through the turnstiles.

On our way back to Riverside, we called Mom and Dad to let them know that we were on our way, and they said that they’d meet us at the food court. We ended up all deciding to get Muffulettas. For those who don’t really know what a Muffuletta is, it’s a sandwich that originated in New Orleans and consist of a bunch of different meats on a special Mudduletta loaf. I think this was the first time that Buzz and maybe Dad had ever tried one, and they turned out to be quite a hit. Riverside’s Muffuletta’s are fantastic! I think I found a new favorite meal at the food court. Even the chips than came with the sandwiches were good too.

We ended up taking our dinner back to our rooms and eating them there, talking about the day and doing some last-minute planning for the next day. After two days in a row of late afternoon thunderstorms and the potential for the same thing happening the next day at EPCOT, we might want to plan to do some of the things we know we want to do or see that are outside earlier in the day just to make sure we can. This would include the Kim Possible Adventure, Sounds Like Summer Concert (right before we left, we found out that a Tom Petty tribute band would be performing and since Mom and Dad are fans, we all added it to the list of things to see), and Snow White meet-and-greet. Hopefully, the weather wouldn’t keep us from doing them.

riversiderainbow-600.jpg

As we were hanging out, one of us noticed a big rainbow outside. It looked like the weather was starting to clear. We spent the rest of the evening relaxing and hanging out. It was a long day at AK, and it would be an even longer day tomorrow at EPCOT!

Next chapter: A somewhat stressful beginning to Day Three

Right now since we’re between Day Two and Day Three on the August Trip Report, I figured it would be a good time for some more updates about the October trip. We’ve been making some progress when it comes to getting ready. We have now registered for our free tickets for our birthday. :cake: Looking forward to that free admission!

We’ve also been working on another mix tape to listen to on the drive to Disney. Of course, it’s pretty heavy on music from the Magic Kingdom as well as songs from some of Buzz’s favorite Disney movies and some of mine. Some of my favorite musical finds on this one has to be the Main Street music. I found out on the web that some of the atmosphere music for Main Street is by the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra and also featured on their albums. The music on Main Street has to be some of my favorite in all of WDW so it’s so nice now to be able to listen to it at home- and now on the road to Disney. :cloud9:

Here’s are the tracks:

  • All Aboard (Main Street Station Railroad announcement/ Walt Disney World Official Album)
  • Remember the Magic (from Magic Kingdom’s Magical Moments Parade/ WDW Forever)
  • Let’s Get Together (from The Parent Trap)
  • Oh You Drummer (Main Street area music/ Paragon Ragtime Orchestra’s The Whistler and His Dog album)
  • Hakuna Matata (from The Lion King)
  • Happy Working Song (from Enchanted)
  • Hey! A Movie! (from The Great Muppet Caper)
  • Exploring (instrumental from Bambi)
  • Jolly Holiday (from Mary Poppins)
  • Red River Valley (Frontierland area music/ Country Bear Jamboree soundtrack album)
  • When I See An Elephant Fly (from Disney’s On the Record cast recording)
  • Belle (from Beauty and the Beast cast recording)
  • WALL-E (instrumental from WALL-E)
  • Winnie the Pooh (from The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh)
  • Tour of the Kingdom (instrumental from The Little Mermaid)
  • Yo-Ho (A Pirate’s Life For Me) (from Pirates of the Caribbean/ Walt Disney World Official Album)
  • You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly! (from Disney’s On the Record cast recording)
  • Sunday/ The Rat/ Morning Paper (instrumental from Lady and the Tramp)
  • It’s A Small World (After All) (from It’s A Small World/ Walt Disney World Official Album)
  • You’ve Got A Friend In Me (from Toy Story)
  • A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes (from Cinderella)
  • Triplets (Main Street area music/ Paragon Ragtime Orchestra’s The Whistler and His Dog album)
  • Mickey Mouse March (from the Mickey Mouse Club)
  • Celebrate You (Disney Parks “What Will You Celebrate?” theme)
  • Suite of Dreams: Fantasy (from Disney’s Magic in the Streets album)
  • When You Wish Upon A Star (from Kerry Butler’s Faith, Trust & Pixie Dust album)
  • Splash Mountain Medley (from Splash Mountain/ Walt Disney World Official Album)
  • Junk Man Rag (Main Street area music/ Paragon Ragtime Orchestra’s The Whistler and His Dog album)
  • You’ll Be In My Heart (from Tarzan)
  • Main Street Electrical Parade (from Disneyland/ Walt Disney World Official Album)
  • I Won’t Say (I’m In Love) (from Hercules)
  • Little Wonders (from Meet the Robinsons)

We’re still working on our itinerary for MK and figuring out where we want to eat for lunch that day. It’s looking like we’ll be eating at Columbia Harbor House since we both like it, but we’re keeping our options open.

That’s about it for October right now. More updates in the coming weeks. :)

I love all the musical posters at It's Tough to be a Bug. I really need to see that again, I've missed it the last three trips.

I do think that animal is a Rabbit too.

Your mixed music looks great, like always. :thumbsup2

Hi Meeko!

I just love the carvings on the Tree of Life - I see something new everytime!
I'll need to remember the muffuletta sandwiches for next year as well!

Plans for October are looking good too, as are your music selections. We've got a couple of Disneyworld CDs which are great to listen to - I really like the Tower of Terror music!

It had been a few years for us since we had done It's Tough to be a Bug too. It was nice to get to see it again- not to mention getting out of the rain in the process.

We really did enjoy those Muffulettas! I would say there're worth a try when you get to Riverside.

Oh, the Tower of Terror has some great music too! It and Sunset Boulevard has to have one of my favorite background music loops in the parks, after Main Street of course.

Day Three begins with another call from Mickey and Stitch. This time, Buzz doesn’t hang up the phone right away. ;) Today is our day at EPCOT, and we get ready for a big day at the park.

riversidefountain-600.jpg

On our way to breakfast, we get a few pictures along the way. I had wanted to get this shot of Acadian house since we arrived, but due to all the rain, a big yellow “wet floor” sign had been placed on the steps the entire trip making for a less-than-picturesque photo. Today, I figured it out- I just had to get down and angle the photo just right so the sign is obstructed by the fountain.

riversidestairs-600.jpg

First stop of the day- Riverside Mill for some breakfast. I was hoping to have a croissant to help put me in the mood for our lunch at Chefs de France, but I couldn’t seem to find one. I finally decided on a pastry that I later found out was a chocolate croissant. Not knowing the name for it, I pointed to it in the case when telling the CM my order. I thought that she answered me “You mean a Hawaiian bagel?” It seemed a peculiar name for the pastry but usually liking any food with “Hawaiian” in front of it (Hawaiian pineapple, Hawaiian pizza, etc.), but I went with it and agreed. She reaches into the case and hands me not my chocolate-covered pastry but a plain rye bagel, :( It was a big let down from what I thought I was ordering, but not wanting to be “that guy” who complains about his order, I smiled, thanked the CM and took the bagel. It wasn’t very good either. Oh well. Maybe next time I’ll get that chocolate croissant.

After breakfast, we made our way to the bus stop. We actually made it to the bus stop a little earlier than we did the day before, so I was hopeful that we would make it to EPCOT in time to see the opening ceremonies (which we also had never seen). It wasn’t long before the EPCOT bus came and we were on our way until a couple of minutes go by and I realize that there doesn’t seem to be as much weight on my shoulders as usual.

“My backpack!!! Where’s my backpack!?!” :scared1:

Panic quickly sets in. Somewhere between the food court and bus I had forgotten by backpack that I use to carry my camera, batteries, autograph book, poncho, etc. in! I end up splitting off from the rest of the family, getting off at route’s next stop at the West Depot and hurry to the food court or other bus stop to see if I could find it. The West Depot is the bus stop for the Alligator Bayou area of the resort, which I had never before set foot in. I must have circled the whole bayou (which actually looks pretty cool and made me wish I had my camera with me) at least once before I finally found my way back to the food court where I, with much relief, found my backpack still hanging on the back of my chair. I call the rest of the family and I tell them that I’ll meet them at the bus stop where we first got on. Coming out of the food court, I took a path that I thought would be a short cut to the bus stop, but ended up sending me right back to the bayou where I again got lost. :headache: Finally, tired from running around the bayou and still stressed from the little ordeal, I find the rest of the family at the bus stop and we again try, this time with success, to head to EPCOT.

epcotcelebratebanner-600.jpg

Even with the delay, we still ended up getting to EPCOT before rope drop. It wasn’t long before we had made it into the park.

ssemonorail-600.jpg

Of course, after we enter EPCOT, taking pictures of Spaceship Earth always seems to be the first thing we do. This one has to be one of my favorite “accident” shots of the trip. I had lined up the shot without thinking the monorail would be going by and the moment I took the picture, I zoomed in to the shot. I’m glad it did too- it makes for a much better picture than the one I was expecting.

ssehalf-600.jpg

More Spaceship Earth- this time a little more abstract.

stitchepcot-600.jpg

On the way to the rope drop, Mom noticed Stitch nearby and pointed him out to me. I told her than I had already seen Sticth at the Animal Kingdom, but it turns out that now she wanted to meet him. Awesome! Stitch even let we get in a shot of just him while we were there. I guess he’d gotten over that whole being jealous of me thing from the day before. :stitch2:

We made it through to Innoventions Plaza right before the Opening Ceremony were going to start. It didn’t turn out to be very exciting. I had heard that the characters come out and that the Family of the Day drives up in a Test Track car to start the countdown. From where we were, all we could see was Goofy’s hat and a little bit of the top of Pluto’s head and a little announcement and countdown. A little bit of a disappointment, it didn’t seem anywhere near as fun as the ones at Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios. We followed the large crowd to the right to our first ride of the day, Soarin’.

timonpumbaa-600.jpg

A sign inside The Land on the way to Soarin’. I’m not particularly fond of the Circle of Life attraction, but the signs leading up to it with Pumbaa and Timon are pretty cute.

soarinconcorse-600.jpg

We opt to do the stand-by line at Soarin’ so we wouldn’t have to leave and then come back to The Land (with Living With the Land closed there wouldn’t be much else to do here besides that movie I already mentioned not being crazy about) and also because the Fastpass distribution was more of a madhouse than the actual line.

soarinsign-600-1.jpg

The ride was fun- nice and relaxing, which is probably just what I need after all the backback and bayou drama this morning. We even got to sit in the front row which was really nice. After we “landed”, I split off from the rest of the group to pick up a time for the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure at the recruitment center in Innovations.

kpinnoventions1-600copy.jpg

After reading up on the whole Kim Possible experience, I was worried that the whole process of getting a time and location was going to be extremely complicated, but it turned out to be really easy. All I had to do was swipe my ticket, answer a few questions about my party and out pops a ticket with my time and location- Italy at 11am.

kpinnoventions2-600.jpg

I knew full well that we were never going to make it to Italy at 11am. I found a CM in the area and explained that being in Italy at 11am would take us way out of our way since we already had a lunch reservation in France. She was really helpful and was able to change our location from Italy to the much-closer International Gateway. She also let me know that if we got there after 11am, it wouldn’t be a problem (or as Kim Possible herself might say, “So not the drama!”) :thumbsup2

The next thing on our agenda for this morning was to check out the Character Spot. While I was waiting to meet up with the rest of the family, I thought I’d go ahead and scout out what characters were out today. I especially wanted to check out the hallway along the exit and the area right outside of it near Club Cool since I heard that some random characters show up there from time to time. Just as I was getting there, I saw Stitch (again? That guy is everywhere!), Rafiki and Marie from The Aristocats!

marie1-600.jpg

I was thrilled to get to meet Marie. I had only seen Marie out once before a few years ago in France. She was just about to leave for the day so she wasn’t doing individual meet-and-greets or autographs and only posed for a few photos by herself before going backstage.

marie2-600.jpg

How adorable is she?

marieauto-600.jpg

Another new autograph! This makes three for the trip.

After meeting Marie, I got a call from the rest of the family saying that they were outside Innoventions, so I went over to meet them.

Next chapter: Character Spot and The Seas with Nemo and Friends

Just a little bit of drama to the start of the day then! ;) Good that you got your bag back though! :thumbsup2
Better luck next time with the chocolate croissant, or as they say in France "pain au chocolat"........I remember very little of the French learned in school, but strangely that one has stayed with me. ;)

Di x

What a horrible way to start the morning. First the yucky bagel...Rye is so gross. I hate it. BLECH. Then the backpack. That is such an awful sinking feeling when you realize that your lost or forgot something that is really important. I am so glad that it was right where you left it.

I agree about the Epcot opening show...it's nothing special. I much prefer MK and DHS.

Marie is just so cute! I want to meet her. She was always my favorite Aristocat.

Yeah, just a little bit. I was worried that it would become bigger than it was, but thankfully it all worked out and it gives us something to laugh about now.

Here's hoping I'll be more sucessful on getting some "pain au chocolat" (it sounds really good when you say it like that :cloud9: ) on one of the other trips. We won't be doing a food court breakfast in October, so it looks like it might have to wait until December... unless they have them on the buffet at Cape May.

Yeah, the whole bagel and backpack episode was pretty stressful at the time, but I'm glad it turned out alright in the end. I'm really glad I realized it was gone before we left Riverside. I would have been beside myself if we had gotten all the way to EPCOT without it!

Here's hoping that you'll find Marie on your next trip. She really was adorable and great to meet.

Funny how saying it in a different language makes a lot of food sound better than it actually is! Like 'escargot' sounds lovely? .....snails!!

Anyway, I think you're in luck with the pain au chocolat at CMC, I'm pretty sure I saw a couple of baskets of pastries there, croissants, muffins etc so you should be lucky!

Cool. Hopefully they'll have them then. Thanks for the heads up.

Next stop for this morning- the Character Spot. Mom and Dad weren’t interested so they decided to check out Innoventions (which, in the end, the didn’t seem to find too impressive) while Buzz and I went.

characterspotsign-600.jpg

This would be our first time going to this location since its big refurbishment a few years back when it went from “Character Connection” to “Character Spot”. The addition of flat screen TVs in the queue showing old Disney cartoons was a nice touch.

characterspotmickey1-600.jpg

First up was Mickey Mouse. ::MickeyMo He started with classic pose - “Is everybody neat and pretty?”

characterspotmickey2-600.jpg

The backgrounds were pretty cool. They seemed like quite an improvement over the postcard-looking backdrops they had before.

characterspotpluto1-600.jpg

Next was Pluto, who seems to hanging out on the farm these days. pluto:

characterspotpluto2-600.jpg

characterspotminnie-600.jpg

Minnie Mouse strikes a pose. ::MinnieMo

characterspotdonald1-600.jpg

Thumbs up from Donald Duck. :donald: Seemed to be in a good mood today.

characterspotdonald2-600.jpg

characterspotgoofy-600.jpg

We had to wait a little longer to see Goofy becuase it was time for him to take a break, but when he came back he was quite the character. :goofy: Instead of just doing a pose like all the other characters did, Goofy made everyone spread out and did this whole male model runway routine a la Zoolander. He was moving around so much that I had a hard time getting a photo of him that wasn't just a big blur, so this is as good as I could get.

When Buzz and I were done, Mom and Dad met us at the exit and we headed off to The Seas with Nemo and Friends.

seagulls-600.jpg

Originally, we had just planned to go through the back way and check out the aquariums since we hadn’t done that in years, but Mom was interested in doing the ride portion again so we went ahead and did it. And as a bonus, it had practically no line!

nemoexterior-600.jpg

The ride was fun. It’s not the most impressive ride out there, but it’s got a few really cool effects in it and I love the “Big Blue World” song from the musical at AK that they sing at the end of the ride. After the ride, we spent some time looking around the aquariums, starting with the manatees. Sorry about the lack of photos of fish and such, but along the way I discovered that taking pictures of aquariums is far from being my strong suit. :sad2:

scuba1-600.jpg

After a while, I noticed the Scuba Diving Demonstration was starting, so I went and watched it for a while. I don’t remember ever seeing this before or if I had it was a long time ago. First a few CMs came out to talk about Scuba diving.

scuba2-600.jpg

Next, the diver came out and talked about some of his equipment.

scuba3-600.jpg

scuba4-600.jpg

Finally, the demonstration got underway.

scuba5-600.jpg

scuba6-600.jpg

Buzz and I were hoping to be able to see Turtle Talk as well, but by now it was already after 11, so we put that on a “maybe later if we have time” list and headed off to World Showcase.

Next chapter: Our World Showcase Adventure begins.

Hi Meeko,

Good character photos, Goofy sounds like fun, would be great to see him 'do' Zoolander!

The first photo of the CMs made me laugh, esp the male CMs expression - he looked like he was totally bored! :rolleyes1 "Cheer up man, you're at WDW!"

Hey Di. Glad you liked the character pictures.

Yes, that guy at the Scuba demonstration had to have been the king of goofy facial expressions. He had that talent of acting like it was totally into what was going on without appearing to hav any sort of sincerity at all. He was actually pretty funny to watch.

Another excellent update.

Love Goofy doing the Zoolander!

I've never managed to catch the scuba demonstration but it looks really neat.

Thanks LL. :)

The Scuba demonstration was pretty interesting. I'm sure people who are really into Scuba diving would think that it's pretty basic, but I knew next to nothing about it so I learned some new stuff from it. Didn't get me excited enough to actually try Scuba diving, but it was cool to watch them do it.

Since October begins tomorrow, I guess it’s about time to post the itinerary for the October trip. I think Buzz have finally nailed a fairly good one out. Here’s a look at some of our plans:

Day One: Arrival/ Birthday at Magic Kingdom

Main Priorities:
  • Splash Mountain (Buzz’s favorite ride at MK)
  • Peter Pan’s Flight (My favorite ride at MK)
  • Re-Imagineered Hall of Presidents
  • Pixie Hollow (just Meeko, Buzz plans on exploring more of Fantasyland and Toontown instead)
  • Celebrate a Dream Come True and/ or Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It!
  • Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin
  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • It’s A Small World

Dining:
  • Columbia Harbor House (lunch)
  • World Premiere Food Court at All Star Movies (dinner)

Day Two: Departure/ Beach Club/ Boardwalk

Main Priorities:
  • Exploring All Star Movies
  • Exploring the Beach Club Resort and Boardwalk

Dining:
  • Cape May Café with Goofy and Friends at Beach Club (brunch)

It will be a short trip, but hopefully a fun one. :) Now that we’re almost to this trip, we’re gearing up to plan for December! We’re waiting to see if Disney announces any Florida resident rates, but plan on getting reservations sometime this month (probably before we leave for October). More info on that plus more October trip planning plus more of the August report soon.

bloat-600.jpg

On our way to World Showcase, we enjoyed the sights of Future World such as the Nemo character statues outside The Seas. I like the look of Bloat here “swimming” through the blue sky.

nemofriends1-600.jpg

The stars of Finding Nemo- Dory, Marlin and Nemo himself.

nemofriends2-600.jpg

The stars again with another fish off to the side that I can no longer remember the name of.

ssereflection-600.jpg

This time around I was really impressed by the landscaping and water features on this side of Future World. I’ve never really noticed them before.

yellowroses-600.jpg

Some roses from the Rose Walk between Future World and World Showcase. I think this is one of my favorite photos of the trip.

canadachateau-600.jpg

We made it to World Showcase! I was planning on heading to the International Gateway to pick up our Kimmunicator for the Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure, or as Mom was calling it at this point “your Kim Possible thing” (she wasn’t really into it right now but she would be… I hoped), but I got distracted by Canada. The weather was so beautiful with gorgeous blue skies that I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get a few photos.

canadagarden1-600.jpg

A stroll through Victoria Gardens.

canadagarden2-600.jpg

canadagarden3-600.jpg

I really think the little cottage in the back of the gardens is neat. Who wouldn’t want a cute little house in the middle of some beautiful gardens? Then again, would you really want tons of tourist walking by all day though?

canadagarden4-600.jpg

canadaflowers-600.jpg

I even made it up to the second level to take some pictures as well.

canadabuilding-600.jpg

canadaphone-6002.jpg

worldshowplace-6002.jpg

Once again, I made an attempt to head to International Gateway to pick up our Kimmunicator. For those of you who read my pre-trip report and remember me talking about Millennium Village in my Flashback report, here’s what it looks like today. You can just see a little of it poking up from behind the gate between the Canada and United Kingdom pavillion.

ukcourtyard-600.jpg

After getting distracted taking pictures in Canada, it should be no surprise that I subsequently got distracted taking pictures in the United Kingdom too.

ukfountain-600.jpg

The fish on the top of the fountain has always reminded me of the Dolphins at the Dolphin Resort. I wonder if it’s a coincidence. :confused3

ukcottage-600.jpg

The Cottage looking lovely in front of a blue sky.

Next chapter: Will I finally pick up the Kimmunicator?
