3 kids that are no longer KIDS! Best Room for 5?

OK, the last time the wife and i went to Disney world we were on the edge of being parents of teens and not adults. Well years have passed and we are planning on a 2013 trip...and my two daughters are in college (19 &21) and my son will be 18 (golly i am old!).

So, any suggestions our thoughts about staying ON Disney property with a total of 5 adults?

The wife and i honeymooned back in 1998 at the Coronado springs resort and would love to go there again, but can one room accommodate 5?

Other Disney resorts i should consider?

Coronado will only allow 4 to a room. Your only options are:
Port Orleans Riverside- which would be tight with 5 adults, plus your son may not fit on the
Murphy bed
most of the deluxe resorts fit 5 to a room
DVC resorts- usually a 1 bedroom will fit 5
family suites at Art of Animation or one of the All Star value resorts

The family suites are pricey, it's cheaper to get 2 value resort rooms. Whatever option you choose, with the possible exception of DVC, you will pay a surcharge for each of your kids, per night, for having more then 2 adults in the room. You may be better off renting points from an owner or from someplace like David's DVC rental (there are a few other companies that also rent DVC but I'm not remembering the names right now). Renting from an owner or company like David's is cheaper then booking thru Disney.

I would recommend two rooms at a value if cost is a consideration. We've been doing that since our kids were older teens and will most likely do it next summer. It is true that you'd have a charge for the 3rd adult in one of the rooms.
Renting points for a DVC villa is a good idea to look into, as stm61 mentioned. Make sure you get two bathrooms, though!

The one bedroom DVC resorts that hold 5 are BLT, AK Kidani, and OKW. BLT and AK have 2 full bathrooms as well. If you want some privacy or large accomodations you could look into renting a 2 bedroom unit. The deluxe resorts will hold 5 (except AKL and WL). Also, FW cabins would be an option if they are your style. As a pp said, the family suites at AoA or ASMu. Or you could do 2 rooms at any resort. POR in the alligator bayou section legally holds 5 but your son is too large for the murhy bed. You could bring an air mattress. As for CSR, the only rooms that hold 5 are the suites and they are $$$$. I also believe that the swan or dolphin has alcove rooms which hold up to 5 or 6. That's all I can think of. Hope it helps..

I would never do 5 adults at POR, the murphy bed is small and is recommended for children and having to share one bathroom would be tough. Also, you would have to pay $15 a night for any more than 2 adults in the room - $45 per night, in your case.

For value it almost makes sense to do All Star resort with 2 attached rooms...but this sounds snobby, but with Value resort comes the Value crowd and thats not really my thing.

THey pitched the Art of Animation suite for about 500.00 more expensive than the All Star option (all star 2034 vs Animation 2500).

Deluxe resorts all have a 25.00 per person per night fee beyond 2 adults and the Value have 10.00 per person per night.

I want to stay on property but i dont want to mortgage the house to do it!

Actually Coronado Springs Resort (CSR) has Junior Suites that sleep 6. The rooms have 2 queens, 1 queen sofa sleeper and two bathrooms. But they can be a little pricey and I believe selection is limited. A 2013 Value weeknight rate is $370.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the adult surcharge is waived on suites (so you're not spending extra $45 a night) like you would do if you rented 2 rooms at coronado. Also, the junior suite price per night is slightly less than the cost of 2 coronado standard rooms.

If you're really in love with Coronado & you can budget the price, this would be a good option.

What's the Values crowd? Apart from the school/sports groups? I have stayed at values, mods, and deluxe, and haven't found any difference in the groups.

Im curious, How will Disney know how many adults are in the room if you just book room only and buy your tickets through a broker?

I would definitely look into renting points from a DVC owner. If you plan far enough in advance you can get a room at pretty much any DVC resort. A 1 bedroom at AK, BLT and I believe SSR all have 2 bathrooms, which with 5 adults is a big bonus. Or you might find it better to rent a 2 bedroom, some of which then come with 3 bathrooms. I think you will get more value for your money by renting and the accomodations are considered deluxe.

Guys and Gals, dont hate me or fire hate mail back at me as you asked me to define what i said....but to me the Values crowd are a bit more of the "Grizwold's". Actually the last time we stayed at one it felt like the Grizwolds had taken over. It just seemed a bit to low brow and redneck.
Now i am not some high falutin, high roller snob (although it sounds like it even to my ears), as we are just an average middle class family.
I have stayed at All Star seveal times, and it was in the all star resort that my now wife told me she loved me for the first time. SO we love the All Stars... But walking by the All star pools and seeing toddlers with soggy poopie diapers/swimsuits and something that looked like the pool at the local YMCA, unattentive parents...etc etc... we wanted something a step up from there. There is NO WAY we can afford the Contemporary resort and its ilk..but want something in between.

Please lets not turn this into some debate about my opinion and how its misguided, jaded, snotty or jackleg. Its simply my opinion.

Back to the topic, CSR is by far our most favorite disney resort as we honeymooned there. THe best OJ i have ever drank in my life was there!
I am still at the beginning stages of pricing and seeing what options are available to my family of adults........and my wallet is complaining already.

I think Disney is a Griswold sort of place. It is the same folks all over at all onsite resorts. If you are looking for a higher class resort, the Waldorf is a better choice.

HA! Funny. Disney has not always been this way...at least to me. Been going for years.........
When i think of Griswold..i think of SUX Flags. SUX Flags has a few decent rides but the CM's are rude and bothered by you being there, the trash is always overflowing and swarming with bee's and 'wife beater' shirts as far as the eye can see. It has its place in the food chain. Just a bit taken back that i saw a bit of that at the All Star resorts...thats all.

Definitely look into renting points from a DVC member. A 2BR at any of the DVC resorts would be plenty big enough. Check out the rent/trade board or there are middlemen services who will broker the deal for you.
