3 Generations! 2 Resorts! 10 Days! DxDp! 3000 Pictures! - Saying Good-Bye!

YUM!!!!! Thank you so much for the Y&Y review and pics. I have read a lot of mixed reviews of this place, but it has always looked really good to me. I'm glad to hear that your family likes it so much.

The picture with your DS4 cracked me up! :rotfl: My DD4 constantly has those tragic owies that only she can see. ;)

We leave in 2 weeks. First time taking a little one. We're so excited!

Yak and Yeti does get mixed reviews, but then lots of WDW restaurants get this. JMO, but I believe that the answer is simple...everyone has differnt likes and dislikes. While lots of people find Liberty Tree Tavern wonderful, DH and I think it's mediocre at best. You just never know. And let's face it...there are bad waitress/waiters at all of them...hopefully, though, you don't get them:laughing:....like we did at Ohana:sad2:...but that's a whole other post;)

We leave in 2 weeks. First time taking a little one. We're so excited!

No kidding!?! :dance3: You better start packing! You will have to let us know how your trip goes...do you have any ADRs planned?

Just caught up! It looks like your trip was an awesome time. I'm looooving the look of the resorts, excited for the days that I can stay there!

Wow, that food looked REALLY good! I have never been in there before. We are usually commando at AK because we only go there 1x each trip. I'm sorry to admit we eat at Pizzafari every time! (even though we think it's really good, my family like to do the same thing over and over and it's always lunch time when we head out of Lion King).

I can't wait to see what you did that afternoon before heading to dinner! We have never stayed for the parade, I am bound and determined to see it this August!:)

Finally got caught up again on your TR. Love the HDDR we have been 3x.

Your pics from and of the CR have me regretting changeing our ressie from CR to BC everytime I see them. It is crazy but I still check to see if there might be an opening for our dates every so often. Thing is I could not change now, DH is so happy we are going back to WL.

Good pics of MSEP, I am looking forward to seeing it again, nice memory of seeing it during our first trip in'89 and just looking at the pics I can hear the music from it in my head.

Animal Kingdom I lke the park it just always seems so hot and so crowded whenever I have visited it. We had decided to skip it in October then after changeing resorts to WL we decided to head there again and made an ADR for Yak & Yeti. We have never ate there, your review and pics of it are great. A few days ago DH and I were again considering skipping AK now after looking at your pics of AK I do not know what to do :rotfl:

I have a book of hidden mickeys DH bought me this past Christmas, I am tempted to take it along on our trip since it does seems like something fun and we have never done it even when we went with our boys.

I have a question is the Kobe Beef burger still on the menu at Yak & Yeti? DH wants to try it but some menus I have seen have it listed and some don't?Great Updates!

:laughing:I'm not packing yet, but I am making my packing lists! I did get several ADRs (even though I didn't know I needed them until we were about 90 days out) We're doing CRT for breakfast, 1900 PF, Akershus, Cape May dinner, Chef Mickey, Crystal Palace. Couldn't get into Ohana :sad1:. DD4 is a serious princessaholic, so all the princess meals might be overkill, but we don't want to miss the princess "window" for her. Plus, this way we might convince her to skip the meet n greet lines. Thanks for a great TR!

I just read your whole TR and I loved it. I loved how you edited the thought bubbles in the pics. This is a very creative TR and with me being a Disney Newbie, I learned some great tips! I need one more TS and you have convinced me to do Yak & Yeti! We have 8 more days til Disney!!!

I have tons of catching up to do! Sorry...busy weekend:scared1: I'm falling behind on my TR:rolleyes:

Thanks a million! And welcome!!!

We only do 1 trip to AK, too, although it is growing on me the more I go. If you've never seen the parade, you definitely should. We didn't do it this time, but it is worth the wait...just find a spot in the shade!!! 2 years ago, we were getting ready to leave, and just happened to see a spot in the shade...so we grabbed it and waited....so worth it!!!

My husband loves WL, too...and now that WDWKOOK informed me that WL CL is the same price as CR Tower, it's looking even better:woohoo:

Good pics of MSEP, I am looking forward to seeing it again, nice memory of seeing it during our first trip in'89 and just looking at the pics I can hear the music from it in my head.

My sister marched in that parade with her highschool band back in the early 90s.n I'll be anxious to see how you compare the two...Spectro & Electrical...let us know when you get back;)

I tell ya...DH and I were just talking last night about AK...he likes the park, me on the other hand can take it or leave it ...HOWEVER...like I told DisneyDoc, it's growing on me. They definitely have some great shows...Nemo, Lion King. And then we LOVE Yak & Yeti. Maybe you could go for half a day:confused3

I have a book of hidden mickeys DH bought me this past Christmas, I am tempted to take it along on our trip since it does seems like something fun and we have never done it even when we went with our boys.

It is fun!!! Really! And there are tons of Mickey's at the resorts. When a cast memeber would see us with the book looking around, they usually came over and helped us out:laughing:....I'm actually going to do a post with all the Hidden Mickey's we found. Dad took a picture of the ones that we spotted.

I have a question is the Kobe Beef burger still on the menu at Yak & Yeti? DH wants to try it but some menus I have seen have it listed and some don't?Great Updates!

DH thinks that it was because he debated on it. You just gave me an idea...next time we're at WDW, I'm going to take a picture of the menu...then I can remember!

Not too much overkill on the Princess stuff at all!!! I know what you mean about princess 'window'. Our daughter LOVED them last year...this year she still liked them, but not near as much. Get it in while you can;) And you are so right about those lines:scared1:....maybe you can skip them if she sees them at the character meals. By the way, we loved Akershus and 1900...did those last year and had a great experience!!! She'll love it!!!

 Thanks so much! DH and I are having a great time putting it together...kinda like reliving the trip again;) I hope you like Yak and Yeti...and it doesn't seem to be a hard place to get ressies. They were taking walk-ups the day we were there. Did you already make a reservations or are you gonna chance it? And wow.....you only have a week!!!!! Lucky you!!! Happy Planning. When you get back, let us know how it went.

Animal Kingdom Afternoon
Asia
Day 6

After lunch, DS4 and DD5 were in desperate need of a nap before dinner! So Ma Hopie took both of them back to the CR for some much needed rest…I think she was a bit tired herself ;) I’ll have to admit…it was kinda nice to be able to stroll through some of the exhibits without being rushed! We were actually able to read information about the animals and basically just took our time.
We decided that we would venture through Asia and check out some unseen territory. First stop….

This is the mystical Anandapur Royal Forest of Southeast Asia, a land where you'll encounter majestic tigers, a Komodo dragon, a Malayan tapir, wild bats, deer and over 50 species of exotic birds amid ancient ruins and murals.

If you find bats intriguing, then you certainly need to trek through this exhibit! The cast member that was giving information was super helpful and very knowledgeable. There are around 32 bats of the Rodrigues Fruit and Malayan Flying Fox species. Some of the viewing areas are without glass panes or wire coverings. However, the CM told us that there is nothing to fear…some of these bats have a 6-foot wingspan and would not be able to enter the 14-inch window frame.

IMG_6176.jpg

We stayed in this area for quite some time just watching and asking questions…great information! DS10 was super focused on every word from the CM.

IMG_6192.jpg

As I was strolling through the ruins, I found some interesting info…It was an Indian custom to turn palaces and temples back over to nature for the good of Earth’s creatures. The rainforest-like surroundings are indicative of those found in Nepal, India, Thailand and Indonesia.

IMG_6190.jpg

This is a favorite of everyone!....Tigers! We actually had a great view of these guys. The CM told me that the tigers are usually active first thing in the mornings, then sleep/rest the remainder of the day.

IMG_6185.jpg

IMG_6196.jpg

As we ventured through the forest, there were so many beautiful species of birds and flowers.

IMG_6207.jpg

If you enjoy the art photography, then this is the place for you…seriously…there are some beautiful sites in this exhibit. It was kinda strange….I actually felt like I was in another place…not AK…it appeared that we had been transported to Asia. Once again, WDW has done a fabulous job with creating authentic surroundings.

Are you ready for me to quit with the scenic shots!!?? :rolleyes1 Sorry...just a couple more.

DSC_3935.jpg

We decided that we would head over to the Bird Show. I’ve heard some good things about it, so we wanted to check it out ourselves.

DSC_3966.jpg

This guy, honestly, was a little on the cheesy side…he was one of the host, but I wasn’t overly impressed with his acting abilities. He was supposed to be the “funny” tour guide…well…not so much.

IMG_6226.jpg

This is a 25-minute show that features around 20 species of free-flying exotic birds, including Harris hawks, Barbary falcons, macaws, ibis and yellow-naped Amazon parrots. After the show was over, I went to the stage to get a couple of up-close shots of the birds.

DSC_3981.jpg

The CMs answered any questions that we had…very nice.

DSC_3977.jpg

I’m glad we saw the show…it was good, but I probably would not go back on the next trip….it wasn’t overly impressive. So…before we left, we had to do Mt. Everest. Not sure why I torture myself….I use to ride these rollercoasters when I was younger with NO PROBLEM!...the older I get, the less my tolerance is.

Photo0051FourBySix.jpg

After this, we decided to head back for a quick dip in the pool!! We basically were in a slow run to get ahead of the parade. Not that the parade isn’t good…it’s great actually, but we were hot, tired, and needed some downtime. It was a great afternoon….I’m soooooo glad we spent time in the Jungle Trek…and by the way….I forgot to mention it was shaded and cool!

Stay tuned….up next…..dinner at Ohana and Wishes on the Poly Beach!!!

I just got caught up on your last two updates: they were great and what amazing pictures.

We ate at yak and yeti and loved it too. I didnt realize they had an upstairs area, how nice. My dh got the fried wontons and he said it was the best thing he ever ate in his life.:lmao: he says this about alot of things but they were really really good.

I remember my kids at the time were 4 and 2 and about 4 or 5 they had a complete meltdown by lunchtime. We knew we had to go back and just give them a really long nap. I think sometimes in the planning and excitement of it all I forgot they were only little. Im glad ma hopie was willing to take them back and you got some leisure time to stroll and see new things. Also Im sure your older son really enjoyed the time.

Great update Heather!

Can you believe I have never done the Jungle Trek? I really should try to do it...your photos are great!

I know what you mean about decreasing tolerance for the thrill rides. Nothing used to bother me in my younger days, but not so much anymore. I went on one of the extreme new coasters at SeaWorld and it just about knocked me out for the day. Even EE can be a bit taxing for me these days, especially doing it back-to-back like we did the last trip. However, I still can't pass it up.

Great exit photo of your family at AK! I don't know how you all look so relaxed and refreshed on your way out of Animal Kingdom. I am always sweating bullets by that point!:rotfl:

They seriously are!!...he's not kidding! And I say that about lots of food, too. We love to try new places and foods, so that statement is frequently heard!

The next time we go, all the kids will be past nap ages (for the most part)...I think it will be a bit easier. And yes...DS10 enjoys time away from the younger two...they get on his nerves after a while...big age difference. That's one reason Pop and DH took him to Disney Quest by himself. I had considered taking him with us for the Princess Half, but he said it would be boring...oh well:confused3...guess it will have to be a kid free weekend....secretly this is me....:woohoo:

Great update Heather!

You should do it...of course the kids probably won't enjoy as much as you. Even DS10 didn't appreciate the information as much as us adults...but hey...he's a kid, right?!

I'm like you....the operative word being "used to". Years ago on one of our first trips to Disney, I was around 12...my parents let us go by ourselves at MK (what were they thinking, right?!!:scared1:) My sister, friends and I rode Thunder Mountain 10 times in a row...and I promise that is no exaggeration. Obviously the park was empty. When my sister reads that statement, she will confirm it and then start laughing. I'm sure the Cast Members thought..."here come those annoying kids again!!"

Great exit photo of your family at AK! I don't know how you all look so relaxed and refreshed on your way out of Animal Kingdom. I am always sweating bullets by that point!:rotfl:

:rotfl2: You're from Canada...I'm from South Georgia...100 degree weather is normal for us:laughing: Not that we like it or anything... Funny you say that...while I was waiting on my family, I was sitting out by Yak and Yeti and struck up a conversation with a very friendly family. They were all sweating, and the kids looked exhausted (they were very young)! She told me that they were from Calgary and were sooooo not use to the heat and humidity. And they always had to go back during the middle of the day, then return when it cooled off. The heats no fun she said!

Does your husband have a hard time running when he comes to FL??? I imagine that it would be very different for him.

Heather

Great updates! Although I could do without the bats and snakes. :scared1:

The tigers are always snoozing when I have seen them so will have to try it first thing in the am. :thumbsup2

Yak & Yeti has been on my list to try but somehow I haven't yet made it over there. It looks great so maybe this time we will try harder. :)

Heather -

We are planning on just going for half the day so we can head back to WL and rest up for an evening at MK to see the MSEP and Fireworks and hopefully the dessert party if they ever open the bookings for October :rotfl:

Great idea about taking a pic of the menu.

I so agree with you about the fantastic photo ops at AK. That is my favorite thing to do there, as I am not a big ride person. Your pictures from AK were just wonderful.

:rotfl: Ya know, I'm not much on bats either, and I've never watched bats for any lenghth of time, but they were really interesting. Or maybe it was the Cast Member who was so interesting...either way...I learned something new.

Great food! If I was not on the dining plan, I might just order appetizers and dessert...so yummy!

What kind of camera do you use? The pictures are gorgeous!

Thanks!! Nikon D5000...fairly easy to use. However, if I had to do it over again, might downgrade one level. There's so much stuff on this camera that I will never use...I'm a novice...no professional. Photobucket helps make those simple enhancements;) I have a better editor from Nikon, but it's too much trouble to use when doing a TR.

Yum! A friend of mine did the Dessert Party in June...she loved it. Let me know what you think about....we've looked into it, but never done it.

Great idea about taking a pic of the menu.

Not sure why I didn't do that...I'm having trouble remembering what we had...especially at places like CG that has a menu that changes.

I so agree with you about the fantastic photo ops at AK. That is my favorite thing to do there, as I am not a big ride person. Your pictures from AK were just wonderful.

Thanks! I would like to go back... minus children, and just look around and actually read ALL the information about the animals....and of course get some more photos;)

SO glad I found your Yak & Yeti review!! Yummy! I think I'll definitely be adding it to my "to-do" list. :)

I just caught up on your Yak & Yeti and Asia updates. Great job on both. And those were some truly wonderful pictures you got in Asia. Yak & Yeti sounds delicious! Maybe one day I'll be able to make myself NOT eat at Flame Tree BBQ so that I could try Yak & Yeti. :rotfl:

Hi!:wave2: Glad to have you follow along! Looks like you'll be able to make your ADRs in just a few days, right? Is this you first visit to OKW? Or are y'all DVC people? That resort is a possible contender for our June 2012 trip...not sure which resort we will choose:confused3

Thanks! I've never been to Flame Tree...Yak & Yeti is our usual choice for a meal at AK...maybe you can have BBQ for lunch and Y&Y for dinner;)
