I am starting to plan my family's first trip to US/IOA. It would be me, DH, DS9, DS6, and my mother. Technically, it appears that we could all fit in a family suite at CBBR, which would be very economical!!! I am thinking that it would be me, DH, and the boys in the bedroom and my mother on the sofa bed. I realize it would feel cramped, but I am trying to justify in my mind that for the amount of money saved, it would be worth it since we would mostly just be there for sleeping. My main concern is with the bathroom situation. From the floorplan, it appears that if my mother had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night (which she usually does), she would have to enter the bedroom to get to the bathroom. Is that correct? That seems like it would be awkward for her and disruptive to me and DH (the kids would probably sleep through).

I have read that it may be better in this situation to get 2 adjoining regular rooms. However, I know the regular rooms are only on the "lazy river" side of the resort and my family would be much happier on the "water slide" side of the resort, as my kids LOVE water slides and it seems like a hassle to get all the way from the one side to the other (please correct me if I am wrong!). Plus, of course, 2 adjoining regular rooms would be more expensive than 1 family suite. And 2 adjoining family suites . . . well, that just seems excessive and pricey!

Anyway, sorry for being long winded. Just curious for those of you who have seen the rooms . . . what do you think we should do? Thanks in advance for any advice!

We stayed in a family suite (on the water slide side) the day they opened.

I would not think twice about sharing a family suite with MIL. Yes, if you have the sliding door / room divider closed, she would have to quietly slide it open and the bathroom would be *right there*. It's not like she'd have to wander around your room all night to get to the bathroom. I'm sure she'll use the toilet before she goes to bed, and everyone will be so exhausted that you will sleep like logs. ;)

Have fun!

We did the same thing in September. My mother slept on the fold out bed. I'm sure she used the washroom in the middle of the night. I don't think we heard her. Nobody seemed to find it awkward at all. I would just keep the sliding door open enough so she doesn't have to disturb everyone very much.

I think this should work out okay. People go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and it should be quiet.

I would also add that the suites are on the lazy river side too.

It is a bit of a walk between sides. There is a path that leads into the second floor of the building between the two sides. We really preferred the lazy river side (lucky for us, we were in a regular room on that side).

If it were me, I'd likely go with the two connecting rooms. I know I get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and I'm not sure I'd be comfortable walking into your sleeping space to get there. Ask your MIL what she wants.

Thanks, everyone, for your thoughts! I had anticipated that everyone would say, no way, it would be too crowded and uncomfortable to share a family suite with 3 adults and two kids since there is only one bathroom, particularly since the entrance to the bathroom is only through the bedroom. It is good to know that perhaps it is do-able if everyone feels comfortable. Just a clarification for kbelle--thank you so much but, yes, I am aware that there are suites on the lazy river side too. What I was trying to say, but I probably didn't explain it clearly, is that perhaps it would be ideal in my situation to have two connecting regular (non-suite) rooms, but the problem for us is that we would REALLY prefer to be on the water slide side but, unfortunately the water slide side ONLY has suites--not regular rooms. Anyway, thanks for giving me food for thought. HM--I completely agree that I would have to speak with both my DH and my mother to see what they would be comfortable with. It wouldn't surprise me if they are both comfortable doing whatever saves the most money! We'll see . . . thanks, everyone!

I understood that clearly. What I should have added that in order to avoid this that you should be clear on your reservation. I understood that you wanted that particular area and brought it up so that you would not end up where you do not wish to be.

I apologize and I should have been more clear.

There were 2 adults in room that I had. The bathroom is not quite so you can hear everyone's business. Also the walls are not insulated so if someone in the room next to you talks you will hear them. The room is very small so is sleeping is all you care about you are good. Once the sofa is open there is no room to walk. I have stayed twice. The first time was a regular room in the towers. The second time was the towers at the team member entrance overlooking Harry Potter.

We were there in May and despite what everyone else says we never hear anyone in the other rooms. I am sure they were there though as the hotel was very busy. Maybe I am just hard of hearing :hyper2:

I don't remember hearing anything either....whether it be neighbours or noises out by the pool late at night.
