Wow, what a great cruise....we were first time Disney Cruisers and had a blast. Thought I'd post about the excursions we went on first.

St. Croix - My DH and DS13 went on the deep sea fishing excursion and had a great time. The seas were a little rough, but they all made it through OK. I would suggest taking Bonine or some type of motion sickness meds as a precaution, whether you are prone to it or not. It can make the difference between a good experience and not. My DH suggested they put that in the excursion description so people understand. My DS got a little seasick (not as far as vomiting, but was to the point he wasn't able to participate after awhile). Anyway, there were about 5 people that went on the excursion, plus 3 crew. My son caught the first fish, a baracuda (2-3 feet in length I think?). My DH also caught a baracuda. Then one of the other guys caught a Wahoo, which was about 3-4 feet in length. But the big "catch" of the day was a Mahi-Mahi. One of the Magic's crew members was on the excursion and worked hard for about 1/2 hour trying to bring it in. He got it right up to the boat and the crew tried to gaff it, but missed. Tried again, but the fish got off the line. That was a heart-breaker! But they got it right up to the boat and my husband was able to get some pictures with the guy's camera, so he got some nice pictures of it anyway (NOT the typical "one the got away"...there was evidence!) The crew estimated that it was about 50-60 pounds. My DH and DS said they really enjoyed it and the crew educated them on some of the fishing techniques. They said they would definitely do it again.

St. Thomas - Doubloon Sail and Snorkel was as good as I'd read about, or better! It was a fun ride out to Buck Island. The crew of Bert, Megan and Dave were fun, efficient and helpful. By the time we got to Buck Island they had all the snorkel equipment passed out (all equipment was clean and in great shape) so we were ready to get in the water after a short safety talk from Megan. We saw other excursions that were just handing out the equipment when they got there, so people had to wait to get in the water. We saw sea turtles, stingrays, an octopus, and lots of fish. Megan took us around to different things and explained about some of the habitat, or you could snorkel on your own. We snorkeled for about an hour, then back to the boat where the gave us as much rum punch as we wanted (kids got sodas) and chips and salsa. Bert gave a little sales speech which was hilarious and didn't make you feel like you were gettting a sales pitch to buy t-shirts. But we bought 3 of them! They're really cool! This was a great excursion and I recommend it highly! Book early if you can!

Castaway Cay - We signed up to do the jet-ski excursion, but the day we docked (I think we were lucky we got to even go there) it was extremely windy, so all excursions were canceled. No matter.....there is so much to do on CC! It was so windy they didn't even want us to put up the umbrellas (but it calmed later in the day so we could put them up to get out of the sun). There were crab races, dancing, sporting activities for the kids, the grouper pavilion where you could play all kinds of games like shuffle board, backetball, oversized chess and checkers, etc. Bike rentals were available too. So there wasn't a shortage of things to do and see. Castaway Cay is an amazing place. The lunch at Cookies BBQ was spectacular.

Hope to add more about our trip later.

Agreed! And just off also! The Doubloon guys are great! We took the excursion on the Dancing Dolphin (a sister boat at St. Croix). They sailed over night to be at port the next day in St. Thomas to do excursions there too. Great outfit of people!:thumbsup2

I'd add the jet boat tour in St. Thomas for sure again! But you better like getting VERY wet!:scared1:

We were on the Dabloon trip in St. Thomas with you, and I have to agree, it was a great time, and that had a lot to do with Bert, Megan and Dave. They made it so much fun. We also bought 2 t-shirts and the Pirate Princess tank top for my daughter.

I'm a little bummed now though, because somehow we missed the octopus. I didn't even know people saw one until I read your report.

Great start! We had the same experience past 2 trips to CC. But had a wonderful time none the less! Looking forward to more! :)

We are on the Magic for an Eastern cruise during this same time next year (3/27/2010). I see it was windy at CC; but how was the weather otherwise? And was the water warm or cold? We've never been to the Caribbean before so not sure what to expect. Thanks!

Curious if you had servers you would recommend?

How was the service?

The weather was beautiful couldn't have been better! The water was just a touch cool but I thought it was refreshing. I snorkeled at both St. Croix and Castaway Cay and was fine.

We had Oppie as a head server and he was very good, his assistant Kriztian was ok.

I agree, the weather was great. The water was a tad cool, but once you were in it for a few minutes, it was fine.

We had Agus as our main server, and Erwin as his assistant. They were ok. Nothing spectacular, but got the job done, so everything was fine. They worked really hard, I just think some servers have it together better than others.

was on the Magic the same week, would recommend Leo and Gabriella for servers, they were wonderful. My youngest daughter (6) doesn't respond well to strangers, by the 2nd night at dinner she was hugging them both.

We were on the same cruise this year. We had done the Doubloon last time and loved it. We did Captain Nautica and it was great too. We saw sea turtles, a baracuda and so many different kinds of fish. My boys (10, 12, 14 and 22) and my father, loved this excursion. I would highly recommend it. We also did the jeep tour of St. Croix. Loved that one too!!:thumbsup2

We were right down the beach from the dock, you could still see the ship very well. We went through Disney and it was the 1/2day sail and snorkel. Don't expect to see a lot on this one though. It was DS and DD first time snorkeling so it was ok to get them used to it but we didn't see much sea life. They stayed in fairly deep water, like 20ft so you couldn't see a lot. They said something about protecting the reef and that the reef and been pretty devestated by recent hurricanes. I have heard GREAT things about the St. John snorkel at St. Croix. Either way you'll have fun, the boat (Dancing Dolphin) and the crew were really good and so were the drinks! ;)

Would like to hear more about the jeep tour please. Did you book it through Disney? What places did you stop at? Thank you

Did you book the Dancing Dolphin through a Disney excursion? I really, really wanted to sail on the Doubloon at St. Thomas in October, but got out-voted by my family. If I can get on the Dancing Dolphin at St. Croix we can do both what they want and what I want!

Yes we did it through Disney and basically at St. Thomas and St. Croix its the same "outfit" just with two or three different boats. They did a great job and were very personable. It was the sail and snorkel tour at St. Croix we booked. Not the St. John snorkel which I wanted but was booked up. Still had a good time with these guys though.:thumbsup2
