3/24/07 Western Magic

Hi All...It's 38 degrees (balmy for us for those in the south)in northwest Indiana, but soon to change to sleet and freezing rain. From spring to winter in 6 hours! We are booking Bucaneer for snorkeling in GC, we motor out to the reefs and sailboat back in....sort of cool!

What are people doing in Cozumel? My girlfriend just got back from Cozumel in December and said the beaches are still somewhat beat up from Wilma. Very narrow, seaweedy, and the water was not clear when snorkeling from shore. She said their wasn't much to do at this port except shop for touristy stuff. She ended up at a private beach club, at $40 a pop. It included food, drinks, and a really great pool area (swim-up bar, games, etc.) But, my DS (10) isn't going to be drinking and eating $40 worth of stuff. And for what I am paying on the Magic, we can spend time on the near empty ship and eat the food we already paid for.

We don't want to snorkel since we will be in GC snorkeling the whole day. She recommended Paradise beach for a short while if we wanted to do something, maybe a bit of shopping, and then back to the ship. We have 8 ships :scared1: in port that day, so Paradise beach and the shops will be crowded. What do you all think?

Hi -- we are going to Xcaret on the mainland on our Cozumel day . . . but I have heard that you can easily take a taxi to Paradise beach, and if you go first thing in the morning I'll bet you can enjoy a few hours before it gets too crowded.

Good luck to your husband on getting someone to share the fishing excursion!

Hi - my dd and I are swimming with the dolphins in cozumel. Its a little warmer than it has been here in colorado, but spring still seems like a long way away!

Am trying this for the first time with my DS7 and DD4...hoping it won't be as overwhelming as it sounds like it can be. One question -- do kids really dress formally for the one formal dinner? Dress for DD4 is not an issue but DS7 in a tux or even a suit....not so sure about that.

Welcome aboard KaHeLi! And welcome to the DIS!

My DS that will turn 7 while we are on the cruise might wear a tie with a dress shirt to formal night - but nothing more. Well he will have on pants too! :rotfl: I think I might get him one of those shirts that has the tie with it. If not, I am just going to have him wear a nice polo shirt.

thanks -- nice shirt with clip-on he should be able to manage, at least for a little while.

You will see plenty of little boys with just khakis and a polo, so if you go for a nice shirt with a clip on, he will look better than many . . . of course it's always cute to see a little boy really dressed up, but there aren't that many families brave enough to attempt it!

Glad you decided to go with pants as well as the dress shirt and tie with your son!!!!!!!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

The worse our weather is before we get on the cruise (and you have had a really tough winter there in Denver!), the more we will luxuriate in the warmth of the Caribbean . . . and 4 weeks from today we will be relaxing on our first day at sea!

Welcome KaHeLi - actually there are quite a few single moms on this trip (or at least on their own for the cruise). I'm travelling with my dd8 - its our second disney cruise. don't worry - you and the kids will do fine, its a great vacation for a single parent.

I also have a DD8 on this cruise(first cruise)- she is registered for the Oceaneer Lab - let me know if you would like to be in contact before the cruise. We are flyinging into Orlando on the 21st and staying at Universal Studios.

Hi Jldunbar
Sorry I took so long to respond.
Sure...it would be great to be in contact before the cruise. My daughter (8yrs old next week) would love to know someone else in the Lab ahead of time. We don't fly into Orlando until the night of the 23rd.

It's March 1 tomorrow! That must mean that this is really going to happen. Is anyone going to be at the Country Inn & Suites on Friday? We will be getting there about 3:00 and will be hanging out at the pool. Isn't the Residence Inn right next door? Anyone there on Friday night? Is there a way we can ID each other?

I know what you mean . . . March does make it seem real! We will be at the Hyatt at the airport on Friday night, but I'm sure some other Disers will be in Port Canaveral that night.

We were going to be at CI&S but might be flying out Thursday instead and visiting the MK Friday. If we do that we'll just stay on site. Maybe you should start weaving green bracelets...

Weaving green bracelets? You've got to be kidding - I'm not much of a weaver. But I would be willing to go to Walmart and get some lime green ribbon and tie it around my pocketbook handle or something.

We will be on the Magic too. We just booked last week! We LOVE to plan ahead :rotfl2:

It will be me, my sister, ds 11, dd, 14. First cruise ever, but certified Disney nuts. This will actually be the first spring break in a long time we weren't at WDW. Decided to do this for a change.

DS is nervous about meeting people and dd is looking forward to having freedom she can't have at home :rolleyes2
