Cruise is just about around the corner. Do you have all your final arrangements (car, motel, tickets) ready? Let's chat!!

Paul

Hi Paul,
I think we are ready! We wish it were sooner given how cold it's been here - you must be even colder where you are. We are flying in the day before and renting a car (I keep changing it based on which gives the best rate!). We're driving to Sarasota after the cruise so I have another one reserved for that.
There is me, dh, dd 7 and ds 5. Do you have kids? Ours watched the promotional video 3 times the other night.
I've become a little obsessive about reading all of this advice -

Georgianne

Hi! Glad to meet a fellow cruiser. We're also flying in the night before. We've got a room with Priceline at the Marriott. Then we're taking Avis to the port on Sunday. After the cruise we're spending 7 days in Orlando. We've rented a 3 Br house w/pool. We're bring only one of our kids, our DD, who is 17.

Sometimes all the tips and hints I come across can get to be overwheming. I have made 3 different car resevations now from the port. Each one keeps getting cheaper and cheaper. I'm down to $169 for the week. Last year I was able to get it for $121. This will be our 5th trip (I think) to Disney.

Paul

Well, you can count us in too!

We will be staying at the CSR for two nights before the cruise, then going on the 4-day cruise on the Wonder and spending two other nights at the WL.

We are so excited! We were on the Wonder last August and just can't wait to cruise again (we've started our countdown)!

This will be my 8th trip to Disney and my DH and DS 5th trip. Our niece (16) will also be travelling with us. This will be her first trip ever to Disney and her first cruise. I can't begin to tell you how excited she is!

How about you guys? Will it be your first time on the Wonder?

I hope it's HOT by the time we leave... It's -7 here today...

Meghan,
It was the same temp here this morning in Duluth! 3 weeks ago it was up in the 40's. I liked that better!

This will be my wife's and daughter's first ever cruise. It will be my second (if you count a weekend cruise I took after High School). Boy are we EVER looking forward to it.

Hope more folks check in we us. It would be fun to meet and greet once we are aboard.

Paul

Meghan and Paul -
This will be our first ever cruise and we are so excited. AND we got our docs today by FedEx. Have you gotten yours yet? It makes it more real - or at least seem a little closer. I do hope the weather is warm, I know it's been cool in Florida lately.

Since we get to Orlando so early on Sat. we're driving over to Cocoa Beach and staying at the Holiday Inn. It's right on the beach and it says they have a great kid pool so I thought we'd check it out - even if it's only for a few hours that day! I'm also hoping to go up and watch the Magic depart, I think my kids will enjoy that.

Paul - what car company is giving you the best rates? Are you using a discount code? So far I've found Budget with the Wal-Mart code to be the best for both before and after combined. But I'm all for trying another one!

Georgianne

Well, we're still waiting for our documents. My TA will call when she gets them and we'll go pick them up. I can't wait!

Have you chosen any shore excursions yet and what are you most looking forward to?

Let's keep this thread alive!
:)

We are planning on doing Atlantis on our own. It sounds like that will work better for us. My son loves aquariums and fish and I think he'd rather be able to take his time looking than be rushed on a tour. On the flip side, if they get tired or bored we can always go back to the ship when we want to.
We'll most likely get snorkeling stuff at CC to do that there.

I am looking forward to the whole experience! There seems to be so much to choose from that I can't see how we won't have fun doing something at all times.
If I have to pick it's probably going to be ordering room service breakfast and having it on our veranda - I love my morning coffee time!

Georgianne

Hi all,
We're using Avis to get there from the airport. I choose them only because of the closeness to the port and the shuttle they provide.

After the cruise we're using National. I got a 7 day rental for $169 for a compact. I also used a double upgrade coupon, so I'm really getting a standard for that price. They don't offer shuttle service, but have a contract with a cab company. You pay the tab, and they knock $11 off the rental price.

What walmart code did you use? I'm willing to try anything to get my price down. How far is budget from the port and does it provide a shuttle?

We have no plans for excursions. We'll just walk around and enjoy. We may snorkle on CC, nothing is set in stone.

We too have a veranda room. Looking forward to coffee and relaxing.

Still waiting on our docs. We booked our trip thru AAA, so we're each getting a free soda mug. Too bad we only drink Diet Riet!

That's it for now.

Paul

We too have a verandah. We had one in August and enjoyed it so much that we couldn't do without it now.

Like you Georgianne, we have been thinking about doing Atlantis on our own; however, we would like to enjoy the beach as well, but do not necessarily want to rent a room for the day so we still need to look into this.

At CC, the banana ride will definitely be a must - we had a blast last time!

I am also looking forward for time on my own at the Spa. I love to take the aerobics classes scheduled early morning and at the end of the day.

And the list of what we are looking forward to goes on and on and on...

The Wal-Mart code for Budget is W810011. I got that from the Mousesavers.com site. Budget is 3 blocks from the Avis place and they also have a shuttle. If you've been to Dave's dcltribute.com site he has the co.s rated and they just got moved to #1. I was able to get the same rate from them and Avis for the one day (comes out to $35 for an intermediate) but they were much cheaper for the 3 days after to Sarasota. I'll probably keep checking rates to see if they change.

Meghan - our kids are too young for the banana boat. : (
I guess we'll just have to do this all again in a few years. Aerobics in the morning sounds great, then I wouldn't feel so guilty about all the food I eat later. What time do they do it later in the day?
Did you do Palo before? What night? We're thinking the last night or Parrot Cay night (unless that's the first night - don't want to leave the kids too early in the cruise).

Georgianne

Georgianne,

Aerobics classes are at 8 am or so and around 4:30 pm. They last about 45 minutes and are great; however, you need to register. I did so on the first day, just after lunch.

Yes we did go to Palo and truly enjoyed the experience. However, I would suggest that you do it the last nite because you won't be missing any of the restaurants then. We did it on the third night and missed AP. Personally, I love Parrot Cay and would be very disappointed not to go.

We also are going to visit Palo. March 4th will be our 25th anniversary, and we're planning on dinner there.

Does the ship have a running track? My DW likes to take her walk even while on vacation...go figure :teeth:

Georgianne: thanks for the budget code.

Paul

Paul,

Congrats on your upcoming 25 th anniversary.

Yes the ship has a running track. If I recall correctly, it's on deck 4.

Plans are moving right along. Picked up my docs/tickets yesterday.

I used the Walmart code and saved $13.49 off my one day rental! Then I found another code (X251000) that shaved another $3 dollars off. Now my one day total is $33.22.

We also ordered our Cirque du Soleil tickets from www.ticketmania.com. They had them discounted to $72 (tax included) with free shipping.

Now our only concern is my DW passport. She's is a permanate citizen, but does not have a passport. We're trying to quickly get her a replacement. Her mom lost it when she was just a kid. Sheeesh.

How are your plans coming?

I tried that code you posted and it was a couple of dollars more than the Wal-Mart code for me on an intermediate car for one day and the exact same on the 3 days after. Guess I'll just keep checking.

I haven't done much else than read these boards and dream about the trip lately. I did get dh to read the Magical guide and the info that came with the docs. He says I'm peaking too early on my excitement - no way!

I plan on going out next week on my 2 free mornings to pick up incidentals - just to be doing something.

Georgianne

Hi!

I too will be on the 3/2/03 cruise...we are getting married on Castaway Cay on 3/4! We have 31 family and friends cruising with us to celebrate and can't wait.

Paul, looks like we are getting married on a great day!

Lynn

Lynn,

Congratulations!! That is so exciting. Do they have a place on CC to do weddings or is it just right on the beach? That's great that you have so many friends and family with you to celebrate - just one big party, huh? I guess we'll be able to figure out who you are - at least on that day!!

Georgianne

Hi Lynn,

Nice to count you in and congratulations! Like Georgianne said, we won't have too much trouble figuring out who you are :-) We will be looking for the bride!

Plans are moving right along for us too. I just found out about Disney Spring Savings promotion and got in touch with my TA to see what she can do about it. For those of you who made reservations at a Disney resort like we did, you may be interested in checking that promotion on Disney's official site.

I have been planning our time at WDW very carefully and made reservations in advance, mostly for the meals. We have a couple of "must" like San Angel Inn and character breakfast/dinner.

I have yet to call and make reservations for the banana ride at CC. However, I think that we will simply go at the public beach on our own in Nassau. We did the Blue Lagoon shore excursion in August and did not enjoy it enough to do it again.

Paul, you will love Cirque du Soleil!

Thanks!
We get married at 10:00 AM, before the rush of the day, on the deck of the Heads Up bar (before it opens). Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings is working on a gazebo for future weddings. We had the option of a "barefoot in the sand" wedding but stayed with the deck...the water and the ship will be our backdrop :D We will be taking a break in the celebrating to enjoy the day at CC, resuming the wedding fun with dinner. Please say "hi" if you get a chance.

We are all also flying in Saturday...I'm so ready to go now!

The banana ride looked liked so much fun (CC during Magic cruise in 9/00), I had forgotten about it until reading it here!

I'm not sure what we are going to do in Nassau. I'm on overload reading about Atlantis and can't make up my mind.

Lynn
