Embarkation Day 3/2/03 Sunday
Since I live in Orlando, it's not too difficult to get to port, only about an hours drive to Port Caneveral, so I slept until about 7:30 and started to get ready, it was sorta hazy outside, and looked to be a cloudy day, but I wasn't going to let a little bit of overcast skies rain on my Cruise day, so I loaded the car, and hit the road to my friends house, where we would carpool to the port. We arrived at the port around 10:30am, and parking and getting thru security was a breeze. Check-in was also a breeze, but there were already a lot of people there... more then I expected for 10:30 in the morning, but I always like seeing everyone line up, and the characters interacting with the kids. They started to embark around 12:15ish, we were pretty far back in the line (all the way to the escalators) but the line moved very very fast and we were on board by 12:30ish!!! I have to say, DCL is the absolute EASIEST cruise line to embark! They were directing people to Parrot Cay, but being a veteran cruiser, I knew there was a buffett Beach Blanket, so we headed out there. I love eating out on the open deck, so we loaded up our plates and sat in the shade and made fun of the Carnival Fantasy which was docked next door--you know, "Man, who wants to be on THAT ship, when you can be on the Wonder!, Our Ship is SO MUCH nicer then theres! They just WISH they could sail DCL!"

After lunch we walked around some, and I gave my friends a private tour of the ship (it was their very first cruise). Before long, they made the anoucement that the rooms were ready so we headed down to deck 2 (Stateroom 2542) and checked it out. When we got to the door we were amazed that 2 out of 3 of our bags were ALREADY there. DCL really has their act together, everything is so easy, and so organized and convienent, they take all the thinking and hassle out of the vacation, and just serve you and pamper you to death! Our stateroom was a few down from the mid-ship elevators, slightly forward, so we braced ourselves for what that would men at night (the boom boom of wavebands). We unpacked, and heard a knock, and our friendly stateroom host (Negi from India) had stopped by to welcome us and ask us how we wanted the room set up that night. After that we headed up to deck 10 and played around on the B-ball court, and had a few bahama mamas and looked at all the envious people on the RCCL SoS and Carnival. Unforunately, a few bahama mamas in, I forgot about the DIS meeting at 3:15, so I didn't get to meet any disers :( I am sure I talked to a few but didn't know it! Of course there was the safety drill, which is always a hoot. So many people didn't report to our station.. they must have called out 7 or 8 staterooms who never showed up. I sure hope Captain Henry gave them a talking to!!!

After the drill we headed back, and found our last bag so we finished unpacking and headed to scoops for a snack before the Sail-away party. When we headed out we noticed OMG tiny rain drops!!! Thankfully it didn't last long, and the sail away party was a blast like always, and my friends were amazed an they thought it was too funny to see all the people on theRCCL SoS looking over with envy! Well the sail away party is still sorta going when the captain comes on with the annoucement that due to a medical emergency we are heading back to port! We had barely made it out, and we backed up. It was a short delay but did cause for a newe experience watching the cop cars and EMT's and fire engines rush up to the port and terminal. I felt bad for that family, what a way to start/end a dream vacation.

After the excitement died down we got ready for the Hercules show. I am a huge fan of this show (Hercules is my favorite movie) but I gotta say, that new male muse... he just doesn't cut it! It was still funny though, and I always enjoy it just because of the music. After the show we rushed back to the room and we realized that we had 3 people, 1 shower, and 45 mins to get ready for Tritons!! Panic time!! Too many Bahama mamas will cloud your judgement. But Brillant me, ran up to the Vista spa, and used their changing room (probably not technically legal, but it worked)!

Tritons was wonderful as always, I had the escargot, sea bass, and the creme brulee AND the souffle.. all were wonderful. After dinner, we got ready for the 70's bash, and watched the gloria's and the John Travolta's strut their stuff. IT was funny as always, and we danced to the classic 70's songs. We snuck over to Barrel of Laughs and although it was a super light crowd, I totally fell in love with Dino and Danny especially Danny. What a hottie, and so talented. There is something about a man who can play the piano. They were awesome despite the low turnout, and it is just amazing watching their talent. After their show, we went and danced a while longer at Wavebands, and called it a night around 1 or 1:30 am. We could hear the slight booming of base in our stateroom, but after dancing, partying, eating, and more eating, an even more bahama mamas... we fell fast asleep, even with the base. I would have to say, the noise didn't bother us 20 something late nighters.. but for the family or light sleepers I would say #2542, is one of those "noisy" staterooms. It didn't bother us at all, it reminded me of my college days, and since we were out late most nights, it really only lasted a hour or less, and was hardly noticible with the TV on, and we were too tired to care. Besides we LOVED the location, it was so convient to be by the midship elevators, and I always love deck 2 because its' so easy to disembark.

Needless to say Day one was a GREAT success, and we were looking forward to Nassau and BIG MONEY in the Nickel Slots.. Stay tuned for part 2 Tommorrow!!

DG - We were there with you - loved the cruise ...it's late so not giving a full report now.

Thanks for taking time to post your report, and I'm glad you had a good time but....hey, don't knock the Carnival Fantasy....DH and I were on the 1/12 sailing on that ship, then we were on the 1/18 sailing of the Disney Magic and we had a great time on BOTH cruises. For about a third of the money that we spent for our Disney cruise, Carnival was just great!! No complaints whatsoever!! :D

Thanks for posting...I just love Capt. Henry...he is my favorite Captain. We always had him on the Magic!!!
