2nd week of december 2014 and Disney hotels?

Sorry if this was asked already. But I am trying to book a Disney property hotel during the 2nd week of December (particularly Dec 8th -12th) and I notice they are all booked up.

Is there anything special going on during that week, other than the usual Christmas stuff?

This is the first year where I've been unable to book a Disney hotel during this time period.

All I can think of is the Candlelight Processional is on the 6th and 7th so maybe people are staying a few extra days.

I was playing around with dates for that week and whatever it is appears to be over by dec 10 because change to check-in dec 10 and beyond, then availability returned to normal.

I posted a thread about this around a month ago. They aren't really booked up. If you put in an 11/30 arrival date, all of a sudden those nights become available (or they did when I checked).

I'm hoping there's a method to their madness.

We are going to stay at PPH from Dec. 9-13. Our friends are going to meet us at PPH and she called and got a view room for those dates today. The standard rooms were booked. Call Disney and you may get a room.

Sorry. When I mentioned rooms being booked up, I was referring only to the standard rooms. I never checked on view rooms since we don't have that in our budget.

Certain rooms are held back (blocked) for future discounts and special offers. I am certain that many of the rooms are not really booked up, but are being held for one of those offers. It is simply too early to know.

This far out from December it's not possible to get a complete picture of what's available or what will miraculously open up. I would say that we'll know more before this month is over or by early October, though.

Disney Visa Debit Card (which means that the Credit/Rewards card should have the same thing) is offering discounts of "20% on most rooms at any Disneyland® Resort Hotel most Sunday through Thursday nights (subject to availability)":

Booking period: 9/10/14 - 12/18/14
Travel dates: 10/26/14 - 12/18/14

Travel must be completed by 12/19/14.

As I figured, a new offer came along with discounts. We should also see either an AP holder discount or a regular discount from Disney Destinations coming soon too -- maybe both.
