It started with "this program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". At least 12 times tonight no matter where I'm at! 1st time was AIM then, Explorer and numerous others after that. One time, upon re-starting, I got some weird DOS-mode kinda screen and had to "Esc to resume". Then later, I had a white screen "WARNING: MySQL connection failed" (gibberish to me) and said "database problem". Twice, an Arupld32 (illegal operation) while reading email; also froze up while at Disney.com (through an email for TDS). I started to think I got a "virus" from someone today and actually RAN my Norton Anti-Virus (didn't know I had to DO this!), it came up, 20 mins later with 8,676 files scanned-no viruses found. Program files only (whatever that means). Also, Iexplore, Attrefsvs, Tapisrv & Rundl32 came up as illegal operations and shut me down. I tried to shut down properly but, it hasn't been less than "frozen" after all these problems!

WHAT happened???!!!

How Much Damage occurred tonight?

Kim

(Hoping this goes through!!!)

I can see your post, Kim. I will make sure the tech folks get a look at it and hopefully get back to you soon. I am very confident that the DIS 'hiccups' tonight and yesterday did nothing to your pc, though there were a whole variety of error messages and such that the site was displaying for those hours.

Is your pc running ok now?

NO! I just got knocked off this last time. I didn't want to think it was DIS related maintenance since it happened wherever I went - email, websites, etc., but Now I'm wondering!? Any help?

It IS tomorrow, Dan! LOL (You should be LONG GONE by now if I'm here!) ;) I don't mean to sound panicky but, this kinda stuff tonight really was weird!! I was affected wherever I went. I thought the tech board was only DIS related? Can they really maybe answer these issues that happened tonight? (I'm currently getting other "windows" that are unviewable-I'm pretty sure my 'puter has HAD it!) DIS Maintenance time is BAD enough but, 'puter woes leaves me out of the loop, entirely!

XOXO

People! People to talk to! People that are awake!

Hi Kim. :)

It's late. I'm crazy. :D

Spago, you must READ first in order to talk! LOLOL

It's late, I'm NUTS!!!!

HI!!!

BYE!!!

I go shleepy now..

But sorry, I have no clue what happened to your computer. My computer acts up all the time, but it's never done that. :(

Good luck with it tho!! :)

Nitee!

The white screen with the MySQL error was a DIS board problem... the rest of them are problems with your computer.

If you can get it to shut down properly, turn it all the way off. Wait a few minutes, then turn it back on. Sometimes you use up all your available memory, and the computer starts acting funny... if it won't shut down & you have to power off while Windows is running, that just complicates the problem... Windows never has a chance to recover.

If you keep experiencing the Illegal Operations, try turning your hardware acceleration down... Right click on your desktop, when the menu pops up, click on Properties. Click on the Settings tab, Click on the Advanced button toward the bottom, then click on the Performance tab. Change your hardware acceleration to "basic accelerator functions" (one click to the right of "None"). You'll have to restart the computer after you make the changes (it will prompt you to do so as you OK the changes).

That should clear up a lot of the illegal operations. If a good shutdown & the acceleration changes don't help, you'll probably need to defrag the hard drive, and possibly re-install Windows.

I moved this to the tech board so I can keep an eye on it easier.

Do you know how to come up in safe mode?

If you do, then do so and see if you get the same lock-up's or not.

JC

Thanks dizneegirl. I'll see how things run tonight. If it happens again, I'll try that.

I defrag'd less than 7 weeks ago. How often should that be done?

Mr. JC - I do not know how to come up in safe mode. That's probably just one of my many problems with computers.

Thank you.

Kim

That didn't take long! Problems again within minutes. Froze up, too. I shut down and left it for a while and then did the hardware acceleration thing. I'll see how that works for now.

Thanks! ;)
