2nd Birthday Party Invite... You Forgot Bubblewrap and Purell...

Wow. Guess who's getting a plastic bag of NOTHING for his birthday!
Seriously. I love the block of wood idea.

Has she not thought that the little treasure could get a splinter from a rough edged wooden toy or would she be hovering, sandpaper at the ready? Silly me, it would never get bashed enough to get a rough edge. :lmao:

omG... Now there's a kid who's gonna get beat up everyday in middle school!!:lmao:

Wow what are people doing to their kids these days? They're so concerned with plastic and lead (which they're exposed to in many places) but not concerned that they're teaching their kids to be rude and ungrateful

Many years ago I worked with a guy whose daughter wasn't allowed to watch TV, but she was in a very high-quality non-profit daycare. When Halloween rolled around, she wanted to be Daisy Duke! If he had just let her watch TV, she would have been perfectly happy to be a Smurf or something.:lmao:

Yes, she would. Believe me, she would.

No kidding, right?

I don't get it either.

Now there's a mother whose son is in desperate need of a Supersoaker water pistol! Funny how you can just tell these things at a distance...

I'd definitely buy James for the little guy, then he can "teach" him to be good. As the mother of a former-Thomas expert, I don't remember James as being bad. Diesel, yes, but not poor James.

Buy the kid a TV!!!!

I agree with the drum set suggestions.

.. or a fingerpaint set. With non-toxic paint, of course.

Remind me to encourage my 12 year old dd that there will be a huge demand for therapists in 2025. Maybe a good field for her to research.

Seriously, put this up there with doing the child more harm than good. I have a cousin who just had twins and they are into all organic crap. food / sheets / matresses etc. (no flames please).. but honestly, if these kids don't get germs at home, then they will be full of all kinds of allergies and sickly when they are older... that is why we have an immune system. Isn't it ironic how when we were kids you hardly ever heard of kids with allergies.. and now, it's like every other one has something. My kids went to day care and over the last 12 years, the list of don't bring in this or that.. and certain kinds of toys aren't allowed from home anymore, has grown.... we can't even send in cupcakes on their birthdays... because we don't want to offend anyone. WHAT!!!! they're a good day care otherwise.. but you're right about the parents getting weirder.... they are creating a high maint society of tomorrrow that will be paying for our social security...

When DS was little he loved Thomas the Tank engine.

Buy the little snowflake the coal cars. They are nasty little cars that laugh and make fun of everybody, get those as well as James. :rolleyes1

Parents like you described, just kill me. My son had all the Thomas the Tank engine cars, and that would be the lead based painted ones before they were recalled.

Here is a PERFECT example of "Helicopter Parenting" and "Snowflakes"... thought of you all her the SECOND I opened this email...

This is an invite I just got to a family member's son's 2nd birthday...

"...I am buying _____ a big wooden "train table" that uses Thomas the Tank trains that have the magnet on the front and back (not the hook together ones)....one can never have too many train cars! (Except don't get him the "James" train car - he is a mean train).

"Remember that _____ does not watch tv, so he doesn't know any of the Sesame Street, Dora etc. characters. (_____ doesn't know the Thomas the Tank show either, but he just likes trains and I am getting the table from someone who is moving and can't take it with them) _____ also loves cardboard books and wood puzzles (make sure non-toxic)...no plastic toys please since so many plastic toys have been recalled or are on a "danger list". (We have researched The Thomas the Tank trains and they are on the "ok" plastic list)."

Is this for real?!

I'd be tempted to show up with some Playhouse Disney themed stuff. All kids should grow up knowing Mickey Mouse. :rolleyes1

She obviously doesn't know the danger of books. My 1 1/2 yr old nephew likes to chew/eat them. He will chew the cardboard books until they get soft and then try to eat them.

The regular paper books he shreds in seconds if you leave them alone with him. He then trys to eat the paper.

Now all my books to him are plastic!

My DS12 loved Thomas the Tank Engine when he was little and James is definitely not mean. That was one of the rudest invitations I have ever seen. You know what he might like...a Thomas conductor's set. It has an engineer's hat, a bandanna and a lovely, wooden train whistle. My son had it when he was about that age. Boy, oh, boy that whistle just never gets old! ;) He would blow so nice and loud!

Is this, by any chance, her first child? It reminds me of how I was with my firstborn. My MIL used to buy toys that I did not think were safe for one reason or another. An unknown brand (I liked to stick with Little Tikes and Fisher Price at the time), or something that was not age appropriate. I was never as specific about what character to get - the toy companies seemed to make what was popular and on TV at the time, like Barney, Blues Clues, etc.

I think this mom got the train table and now wants it furnished with trains. I really hope the kid likes trains a lot if that's all he's going to get. You could buy him a savings bond if you don't want to get him a train. Or how about a shirt with a train on it? Or an engineer cap? I could have fun buying those things and see nothing wrong with her requesting specific characters. Although, if I was the mom and I didn't get what I asked for, I would still be grateful. If she doesn't want to keep the gifts, she can always donate them to charity, right? :cutie:
