That's TODAY??? Oh boy...I really AM getting old!

Although, as a child of the 80s, if you say "Elvis" to me, I think Costello, not Presley.

Okay..this is slightly embarrassing, but where my mom could remember exactly where she was and what she was doing when JFK was killed, well...I remember exactly what I was doing when they announced Elvis had died. I was 11 years old and eating dinner. We had fried potatoes, barbecue chicken, and green beans. There was a TV in the kitchen and when they announced it on the news I ran in to tell my mom(she wasn't eating with us at the time). She didn't believe me until she turned on the TV in the living room. I'll never forget it.

Of course, that big "moment in time" for me has been replaced by 9/11.

I love Elvis, though. Really.

You aren't forgotten, King... :thumbsup2

Thank you for reminding me......All morning I was thinking "Aug 16th, who's birthday is it? something is today and I just can't remember what". It was driving me crazy. Thank you for putting my mind at ease. I am becoming more and more of an Elvis fan

I too remember what I was doing, I was 12 years old, my girlfriends and I were on the CTA bus (public transportation) going to the suburbs to get to a mall, and someone had a boom box and they were talking about Elvis' death.

I was born on Elvis' birthday, Jan. 8. My sister was born one day after the one year anniversary of his death, Aug. 17, 1976. Eerie.... At least my father thinks so since he is a huge fan. :goodvibes:

I love Elvis!

I know how old you are, because I'm exactly one year younger.

Elvis gets dragged up ever single year - I knew right away what this thread was for when I saw the title.

Madonna and Kathy Lee and Frank Gifford also get to hear about Elvis dying on their birthday....

I was 8 and remember watching it on the news and feeling numb at first and then crying later. He was my first crush. My Grandma and I used to watch his old movies together.

We are the same age and my experience is etched in my mind too. I was in the family room waiting for dinner and they broke in on the TV about Elvis being dead. I ran into the kitchen to tell my Mom, who proceeded to break down in tears, ran to the TV and then couldn't finish cooking dinner. We got to have pizza...a rare treat at our house. Dad said he didn't think Mom would be that upset if he dropped over... :rotfl:

You were watching your three sons? Based on the picture in your signature it would appear that you have two daughters and one son, and clearly younger the time frame suggests.... :rotfl:

The commercials for his records would come on tv a lot, and I'd point to the TV and say "Helmits!" I couldn't say "Elvis." That was when I was about 5 or 6.

I was about 8 yrs old when he died, and I remember seeing women crying on the TV news about it, and that he died of a "heart attack". That was before his drug problem was revealed. I also remember seeing the white hearse on tv.

As a Memphis resident for the last 13 years, we are ALWAYS reminded of the anniversary of his death, and his birthday. It's on the front page of the newspapers, top news stories, and all over the radio. I've been to Graceland at least 7 times, (when guests come from out of town) and each time, I'm still dumbfounded as to what the fascination was. I was 8 when he died, and I remember walking into the kitchen and my oldest sister just sobbing about Elvis dying....I was like....WHO?? :confused3
Also, I have heard SOOOO many stories from the officers that made the scene...it is tragic what drugs can do. :sad2:
