this had me :lmao: I hope that one day, I too, will be the proud owner of an AP and a Minnie Mouse wallet to carry it in....

Excellent start! I can't wait to read more.

Loving your TR, Grammyof2, Happy belated 25th anniversary. :)

You are not boring that is for sure and neither is this trip report. Can't wait to read more. :thumbsup2 I'm sure I won't have to turn pages here.

So much for leaving the kids at home.

#1 Grammy Groupie checking in!:yay:

Every day should be a celebration of you two. I know the whole story, have just read it again three times, and am still all choked up about Grampy's stroke.

You make me laugh and cry. :coffee: :surfweb:

Don't stop, please.:moped: :artist: :smokin: :stir: :drive:

Signing on, I just know this will be a great trippie! I am loving getting to know you and Gramps already!

Allyson :)

we hit the sheets, hoping to dream of hidden Mickey’s and Rice Krispie treats. But, and this is a big but, Grampy is too excited to sleep. He shares that info about 478 times before he finally falls asleep, at around 2 AM. So much for leaving the kids at home.

This right here is cracking me up. Sweet Grampy!!!!

My DD2 says "GRAMMY!" when I am "reading you", which is probably a sign I need to limit my DIS time a wee bit more.

Yep, UTM, maybe you should lay off the caffeine known as this DIS a tad:lmao:

Are you sure it's not Expedition Everest calling your name? It's much safer. And I'm sure just as thrilling.

NM - Expedition Everest makes me a little light headed. You think that would happen in the thin air of Mount Everest? :rolleyes1 I am pretty sure that was just the voices in my head:3dglasses

this had me :lmao: I hope that one day, I too, will be the proud owner of an AP and a Minnie Mouse wallet to carry it in....

TM - When we bought our AP's on the Maelstrommers trip, Grampy was chit chatting with the CM during the purchase. No surprise there. We bought them downtown and after walking out, the CM came running after us calling Grampy's name. It was the very beginning of the Year of the Million Dreams and she brought out a Mickey wallet and 2 magic Mickey towels and gave them to Grampy. We had been on property about 25 minutes and recieved a dream :cheer2:

Thanks to everyone for reading. I am going to do my best not to drag this out for 18 or so months, so chapter 3 will be up today:dance3:

The sun hadn’t even thought of rising when I awoke. Maybe I was too excited to sleep, too. My feet hit the floor, pushed the magic button on my coffee pot and jumped in the shower. Throughout the whole morning ritual, I was raising the arms in victory and doing a little jig, I was going to Disney World. It was a short minute later that Grampy’s feet hit the floor running. Showered, coffee in hand and crossword puzzle on the table. A minor detour to let everyone in on a little secret. Regardless of what is happening Grampy has to do the crossword puzzle from the morning paper. If he doesn’t do the crossword puzzle in the AM he is off his game, all day. So know that the crossword puzzle is as important as oxygen to the rest of us.

Plan of attack – Jkay & R would be arriving by 8 and we would be off. 7:45 they arrive. Jkay and I do the jig, several times. Last minute stuff is thrown in the car. I do the verbal check of everything. Boarding passes, ID’s, ADR lists, and a few 100 other necessities. Check, check, check, times 100 checks. One last thing to do. My granddaughter, the Princess Hayley is still snug as a bug in her bed upstairs. She has snoozed through a sonic boom downstairs. We couldn’t let her wake up and we were gone. So upstairs I go to tell my girl goodbye. A pre-Christmas miracle occurs and she wakes pleasant and there are no tears. Kisses all around and she reminds me to bring home Rice Krispie treats. I hand my daughter a list of 9 must do things (I thought 10 would be too much, so I combined 7 & 8) and we LEFT.

Everyone has traditions and we are no exception. We drove 9. 6 miles and made an abrupt left into Cracker Barrel. No trip, to anywhere, with this crew can begin before we eat breakfast there. So we pile in to enjoy a giant (yeah, we are on vacation) breakfast. I share with every waitress and patron the fact that we are indeed heading to Disney World. Also did the jig in the gift shop, twice.

With a good start on fattening everyone up, we hop into the car and head to BWI airport. Along the way we have to pay a ton of tolls, which is an excellent opportunity to let the poor working saps in on the fact that WE are going to Disney World. When we see the signs for the airport we all squeal, loudly. We are FINALLY, REALLY, WITHOUT A DOUBT GOING.

Long term parking, Trip planner extraordinaire, me, notes where we parked and stashes away the stub. Hop on shuttle, curbside check, breeze through security and we are EARLY. Have about an hour to kill before boarding begins. As we walk down to gate 24, R and Grampy notice a giant score; the bar is directly across from the gate. Talk about Bloody Marys and a seat and the two of them scuttle off. Jkay and I do what we do best, potty call and airport shopping. After we determine there really isn’t anything we need we saunter off to reclaim our men.

We walk into the bar and immediately spot R and Grampy. Jkay and I do the sideline glance at each other and crack up. Yep, there is Grampy engaged in lively conversation with some woman! Grampy can talk the paint off the walls, but said woman wasn’t doing to bad. We hang back for a few and listen. Yep, he definitely knows her life story. After about 3 minutes, I walk up and do the throat clearing maneuver. Grampy turns, smiles and introduces me to Judy, who is heading to Tampa. I do the silent prayer thanking God she isn’t on our plane. (Another digression, I thank God a lot for the small things) Otherwise we would be having dinner with her family at some point. Grampy and R finish their Bloody Marys and we head to the gate.

There was plenty to talk about as they preboarded and we waited in the beloved Group A line for Southwest. Grampy and R were sharing all about Judy. How she came in, sat by Grampy and proceeded to talk to him and only him. Grampy shared that he thought she was a pick pocket and he kept his hand on his wallet the whole time. I shared that I thought Grampy was full of something, most likely crap. Grampy grabbed the scar on his neck, from the carotid artery surgery, and reminded me he had a stroke. It is his go to excuse. He also did the let me change the subject move, by saying something stupid, like I love you.

We finally move into Southwest flight 444 and low and behold, get the big seats, by the emergency exit. Yahoo. Grampy reminds me quickly to fold up the walking utensil so that we won’t be considered unworthy of saving 200 lives in case of emergency. Done deal. Now that there, is funny on many levels, cause this girl is gonna be all about saving herself, more than likely. But who knows what inner strength I might muster. Obviously, we didn’t have to find out.

We put our seats in the upright position, stowed away our bags completely, buckled up the seatbelts and taxied out to the runway. As we started the ascent off the runway, we did what we always do; a tiny squeeze of the hand making sure our hands lingered in that position. Truth is, the farther off the ground we got, the weight of the world lifted. Everything that led up to this was being pushed to no man’s land. I was light as a feather, happy as could be. I would not be thinking about the stresses of the past year or those that were waiting when we returned. I was heading to the happiest place on Earth with the love of my life.

Up next – Does Romeo show? and how dang cold is it in Orlando

I even danced a jig for you after reading this chapter!!

Grammy, I can sooooooooo see you doing this, as I witnessed the jig in person! Well, NOT the one in your shower, GEEZ!

Keep it coming! :surfweb:

Shopping in the airport , yes I knew I liked you. That's what I do too. Grampy sounds like a charmer.

Okay, so I guess I can picture it. In my mind, you raise your arms (and open your mouth!!) when you are happy, so this is a good thing!!!

We walk into the bar and immediately spot R and Grampy. Jkay and I do the sideline glance at each other and crack up. Yep, there is Grampy engaged in lively conversation with some woman! AND, YES, I can definitely picture this!!!!

Yahoo, indeed!! Love me some emergency exit seats!

As we started the ascent off the runway, we did what we always do; a tiny squeeze of the hand making sure our hands lingered in that position.

BORG, baby. Jay and I can't take off without the hand-squeeze!!

Loving this so far. Can't wait for the rest. I know it will be great!!!

LOL Ash!

Our Grammy is smokin' this report! Not very viking of you -- you are supposed to take five-teen years to get the report done!

Yippee! I have long awaited a trippie by you! I am here are following along. Fortunately for me, I know your tone of voice, your laugh, your beautiful smile, Grampy's cigar smoke smell and what he looks like WITH his shirt unbuttoned. We are all in for a big treat! You are both amazing! I am so glad you finally got to get to see Disney at Christmas. I know you had many, many roadblocks.

Git to it!

Your pal,
me

I'm all in. Can't wait to hear more. My family and I have been to the world many times but never at Christmas. We are planning on going next year after the girls are out of school. I can already see that I will get a ton of information from your report. Glad to hear that Grampy is fine. I know that is a weight off your mind. Can't wait to hear more. Please get on to the next installment!!!!
:surfweb:

A giant THANK YOU to all that think I look to young to be a grammy. Want to come to dinner? Stop over any night between 5 and 6 and pull up a chair.

Ash - Yeah - I do have that habit of throwing the arms in the air  and having a ton of unflatterring pictures with the mouth wide open and my eyes squinted shut. pirate: I failed photo posing 101:rotfl2:

Kimmie - Guess what? Chapter 4 in a few:dance3: :dance3: But remember that this trip is 9 days long and we haven't made it through day 1 yet. And for those of you I am just meeting, rest assurred, that I can be wordy:3dglasses

The flight to Orlando was normal and non eventful. It consisted of the standard Grammy and Grampy itinerary. Which means the second the plane is level I needed to break Grampy’s crossword puzzle book and pencil out. Also, answer questions like “What is a 5 letter word for ship from Valdez that ends in R?” and “Would you hold my crackers?” Then the pilot announced we would be arriving 20 minutes early and that it was partly sunny and 59 degrees in Orlando. Yeah, we had arrived and were early except we sat on the tarmac for 25 minutes waiting to unload. So much for the tail wind.

Jkay was like a 5 year old in a penny candy store. She literally skipped off the plane and was cheesing from ear to ear. We hopped on the express over to baggage claim and I told Jkay this was the 1st of many rides. She was thrilled.

Secretly, I was a tad nervous about the car service. My inner self was whispering “Don’t let them see you sweat” so when we started the descent down the escalator and my little eye spotted a huge sign saying “Welcome Grammy, Grampy, Jkay and R” I broke into a huge cheesy smile myself. I also raised the arms in victory and did a jig.

Now, I realize that Magical Express is free, and I am all about the free, but I just like having a car service and for someone else to do the driving. I am on vacation and don’t want to be Onstar, which is one of my many part time jobs IRL. So, I skipped over to Romeo and he was like “Where you been, the plane landed 40 minutes ago?” Yep, I know but they wouldn’t let us off. So we grabbed all the bags and ran outside to soak up the Florida rays, which were the 1st of many days that I thought, its freaking cold.

Grampy got to ride shotgun, because he called it. No lie, we are all 12 deep down. Romeo was very social and we had lots of conversation. He did tell us that we had chosen a great time and that the week before had been crazy with Pop Warner and we would have hated All Stars. Since I wasn’t there, I can’t comment, but we heard this a lot from CM’s after our arrival. Before we knew it we had passed through the gates welcoming us and pulled up to our home away from home for the next 9 days, All Star Sports. Romeo promised to pick us up the following Sunday at 9:30 and told us to have a wonderful time.

We walked into the lobby to another giant score; there was 1 person in line. Jkay and I went over to check in and the guys walked out to the pool to collect the Florida sunshine. The CM got us all set up, what turned out to be a perfect spot, close but on the back side so it was quiet and serene. The rooms were even adjoining, which I hadn’t requested but turned out to be nice. We high tailed it over to the rooms, which BTW were fine & most importantly clean, and there was a towel animal waiting on the bed. Unpacked and moved the suitcases out of sight, slid them right under the beds.

The lobby of the ASSports

Grampy and my home away from home

R thought the day was complete and he was going to do this

He was very wrong. We had things to do and places to go. Get up. We are hitting the buses. Jkay has a list and we need to attack it. I have plans for the evening. We may be staying at ASSports but we are heading over to one of my favorite places, the Poly. We have ADR’s at 8:00 for Kona and a pressed pot is calling me right now. So we hop on the bus to the Magic Kingdom and hit the monorail to the Poly. Jkay can start crossing off because we rode on WDW transportation.

The Poly – I adore the Poly. Grampy has grown very fond of the Poly. When you exit the monorail and the doors open to the hotel, you are hit with the smell. Everyone breathe in, now. Smell it. The most wonderful smell. The smile on my face was about 40 feet wide. Life is GOOD! I think we floated down the staircase to the tree. Picture taking opportunity

I scanned the lobby for the Christmas display. The one I had seen at least 39 times on the WDW Holiday special. No display! I was sad. A CM told me that the display wasn’t up this year but to be sure to let someone “higher up” to know we were disappointed. Noted and checked in the TR notebook, that was secure in my pocketbook and provided by another Disser, YAK, from infamous goodie bags she had provided from the October trip.

It was only 6:30. I had overestimated the time we would need to land, transport, check in, unpack, and travel over to the Poly. I decided to see if I indeed had mad skillz and could get into Kona early. There were a ton of people upstairs, between the Kona and Ohana’s. I waited patiently and then with the sweetest of voices and the biggest smile asked if we could be seated early. The CM was as pleasant as can be and handed me the magic lighty up thingy and promised to see what she could do. We walked over to the bar outside of Ohana’s to order drinks and whalla woop, the lighty up thingy started lighting up before we even had a chance to order drinks.
:dance3: :dance3: :dance3:

Up next - How much can I cross off the list in one day and a surprise from the Poly beach!

You are making all of us look bad, you know that, right?

And again, with the goody bags. :sad2:

I can picture you and Grampster at Kona, cause we saw you there!! It is nice of him that he does not hold up a pineapple in front of your face. I prefer seeing your sweet face in the pix!

I do jumping jacks for you. :yay: :yay:
