Im back we took a really long nap and it lasted about 10 days, now where were we- Tuesday afternoon back in December, heading back to the ASSports for a rest.
Actually, I think the 3 musketeers napped. I visited my new best friends at the concierges desk and made 1 or 5 changes to ADRs , filled up the refillable mug with coffee and called home to talk to the kids, my mom, the paperboy and some internet freak I may or may not have met on these boards.
After taking care of business, I rounded up the troops to head back over to Epcot. We had a 7:45 ADR at Rose & Crown so we hit the bus stop at 5:45. Bus pulled right up and we were heading back to the World Showcase by 6:15. We had time to kill, so we stopped for Photopass pics
And wandered around to Canada and stopped to listen to Off Kilter
There was a theme to every dinner ADR. I had overestimated travel time and we were always early. Not that I am complaining, because the transportation and crowds were wonderful but I was always worried about being late. Never happened.
No problem we could go to England and shop and hear all about Santa in Great Britain.
And still it wasnt but 7:15 and the troops were getting restless and hungry. Grampy was chewing on the handle to my purse and R kept saying he might faint. So against my better judgment we walked over to Rose & Crown. Remember I have a plan, to score a seat on the deck and watch Illuminations from our very comfy seats. Whether or not that would all come about was still very much up in the air.
The crowd outside of Rose & Crown was about 10 deep. Oh no, this cant be a good sign. Grampy started yakking in my ear, I told you so. You should have checked in earlier, blah, blah, blah. I sent them all packing across the street to sit their butts down and joined the 15 or so people waiting in line at the podium. When my turn came around, using all my sweetness, which is a stretch by anyones imagination, I requested a seat on the deck, and took our lighty up thingy and headed over to join the crew. Before I even got across the dang street it started lighting up. Crap, it was only 7:22 by my watch, Rose & Crown has a 2 hour time limit and Illuminations doesnt start till 9:30.
I grab everyone up and mutter under my breath and we head to the podium. We are escorted up, around, and down to the most perfect table on the outside of the deck, with a perfect view of where Illuminations will be taking place, and a nice warm heater right over my head. The perfect table, perfect, except how could I drag dinner out for the next 2 ½ hours?
Our waitress, Jenny, was as cute as they come. She came right over and started chit chatting. She and Grampy hit it off right away. She proceeded to tell us all about coming to the states to work, 1st in New England, then to WDW. Yes, she had come alone, met a lot of nice people and was happy, happy to be here. She even introduced us to her roommate, Lisa, who also worked at the Rose and Crown, and told us a story about a Christmas tree catching on fire the night before near their apartment. Well, that killed 10 minutes. She asked all about us and Grampy told her this was a delayed Anniversary trip and the whole story. Another 5 minutes killed before she even took the drink order but that was 3 coffees and a tea. Not a lot of waiting involved in that.
Now I had not shared the info with anyone about watching Illuminations from here because I didnt want them to get their hopes up and have them dashed by an indoor seat. When Jenny came back with the drinks, Grampy asks her if you can see Illuminations from here, because he thinks this is a perfect spot. Jenny whips out a little piece of paper and tells him that since our ADR wasnt till 7:45 and even though they have a 2 hour time limit, she will draw dinner out long enough for us to see Illuminations if we would like. Ok major score, except I know the 3 people I am dining with cant sit still for that long.
Heres Grampy with real food and not chewing the leather from my purse.
We all order and the atmosphere really is nice from where we were sitting. The appetizers come; shrimp cocktails, potato leek soup and salad. It was all good, no complaints from anyone. While we were eating all the waitresses came by and wished us a Happy Anniversary. It really was so unexpected and Jenny had made sure everyone knew we were celebrating a milestone.
Grampy and I had fish & chips and Jkay & R both had the cottage pie. The servings were huge and I thought the food was fine. Ive read some not so pleasant reviews on Rose & Crown so we either hit a good night or I just was plain ole happy to be exactly where I was. I would go back without a worry. The service was outstanding and probably the friendliest staff we met all week.
Since I have dined with Jkay many times, I know that she reads the dessert menu before even ordering a drink, if possible. My girl loves dessert as much as me. She had her heart set on the bread pudding before she decided on the shrimp cocktail. So with already full bellies, we ordered up desserts around the table, toffee pudding, apple crisp, chocolate torte and the bread pudding. Our plates came out decorated with Happy Anniversary and I forgot to take pictures. Ughhh, what was I thinking? Ill tell you what I was thinking; I wanted to bite into the chocolate piece dropped right on the plate, because I love chocolate.
By the time we finished up all the grub it was only about 9:00. Jenny came over and suggested a round of drinks and assured us it was fine if we stayed to watch the show. We discussed it and decided to give up the perfect spot and let some other lucky group have our table. Unbelievable, I know. But Grampy gets ants in his pants really quickly and so does R. It was for the best. So if some Disser got a great table on Dec 12, around 9 and saw Illuminations under my toasty heater while sipping a cocktail, YOUR WELCOME!
We left the Rose & Crown, with me knowing it was just about perfect. If only I had waited another 20 minutes the plan could have came off without a hitch. Except that no one got seated on the deck but 1 table after us, so the best plans are just that, a plan that may or not work out.
On the way out the door, Jenny came out once again to wish us a Happy Anniversary and told us to have a great time. She even gave Grampy a hug goodbye. I think that might have had something to do with the fact that Grampy told me he gave her an extra $50 for being so nice. Who knew a piece of chocolate on top of your dessert was worth an extra 50 bucks? I have tried it about 30 times since we got home with a Hersheys nugget and he hasnt yet slipped me even a buck.
We quickly walked around to the bridge to check out a spot for Illuminations and although there was a private party below we were able to get front row to watch the show. It was just as impressive watching with the crowd as it would have been snuggled in those seats. At the end when they played Let There be Peace on Earth, Ill admit I shed a tear or 10. This really was the trip I had waited forever for.
We slowly made our way to the front of the park. I had never noticed before that on Spaceship Earth as you are leaving there are lasers flashing goodbye in several languages. I couldnt capture that picture and I tried for about 15 minutes till the point we were all hysterical laughing and just gave up. By the time we hit the front of the park the lines were nil and we hopped right on a bus, even had seats, for the trip back to ASSports. Hugo was our bus driver and he was in a festive mood and started singing Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Well, Grampy and the 2 little girls on the bus were all about that and serenaded us all the way back.
We hit the food court after collecting the mugs, filled em up and I grabbed a bag of Mickey caramels for Grampys pillow. I was seeing if I could get him to come off a $50, but all I got was a Thanks babe, you know I love them
Up next Jkay makes it finally to the Magic Kingdom
