25th Anniversary trip taken at 26.5 years-December to Remember-NEW 6/11 - Pg 19

:surfweb: I'm finally caught up! :surfweb: I started reading your wonderful TR yesterday, and just finished this morning! I don't even know where to begin! You guys are awesome! I'm so glad that you finally got to take your trip. I know all too well how life gets in the way of a great plan. You two look sooo happy together! Happy be-lated Anniversary! LOL! I can't wait to read more - I'm hooked now! :thumbsup2

-Michelle

P.S. I've never been on Tower of Terror or RnR either! :goodvibes

P.P.S. I really love Grampy's Hawaiian shirts, too! :hippie:

When it was over we had a bit of a discussion about the fact that in this day of political correctness and the fact that some stores even have “holiday” trees, WDW fully embraces the Christmas season. We couldn’t have been more surrounded by the season then with this presentation and we were all thrilled to be spending part of our holiday here.
ain't it the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh yeah.....I forgot to say this before about the lighty-uppy hot chocolate mug....my dad was also totally amazed and snatched up 3 of those things (one for my DS).....when we got home DH put it in the dishwasher :eek: ...................I'm sure your readers are smarterish than DH but just so you know..........batteries + water....:scared1: ....no more lighty-uppy

Grammy loving your report and pictures. I am seeing things I never saw before. Makes me want to go at Christmas now.

I have seen that hat Grampy had on with the racoon tail. My son has one of those without the racoon head at the front. Got it out West in Canada.

You keep me smiling thanks.

If you have a Big Dogs store near you, my suggestion is to never allow your man to enter it. Just a suggestion :scared1:

And they always have this buy one, get one for a buck. OMG is there a shirt in that store he doesn't own. Me thinks not. He is a Big Dog Aholic

I guess there are worse things but at the moment I can't think of one :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
Yes, I noticed a few new ones this trip but especially noted they are buttoned;)

Give that Disney Grampy a hug from me.

We all know the morning drill, by heart, so that is what we did. No need to rehash the routine. Except to say, the thing that bothers me most about staying at a value is breakfast. There is no way you can get everyone through the line, seated and it is still hot, kwim. Plus, breakfast isn’t my favorite meal of the day, so I am thinking we need to go to a sit down breakfast. We had a vote, it was a tie, so they grabbed breakfast at ASSports and I ate a banana. I wanted someone to wait on me, this is vacation. Rant over. Just reading the notes made me hate the cafeteria line in the AM.

So where were we? Heading over to Epcot because I believe in a democracy and that is what they wanted to do. Slight detour to say that the bus service at ASSports is outstanding. We never waited, coming or going, for those that are worried about these things.

So it was bus, bag check, finger in finger reader, photo pass and yippee, hardly a crowd to be seen. Spaceship Earth was a walk on so we did. Then we went left with determination to ride Test Track. Grampy and I, in all the trips we’ve taken, have never done more than stand in line for this. Without fail, it was broke down, or broke down as we stood in line, and once broke down when we were next to get on. We had decided if it didn’t pan out this trip we were just going to pretend it didn’t exist. Low and behold, we walked on (no wait) got in the car, took off, completed the ride, and this is the picture

DisneyPhotoImage44.jpg

Wow that was worth the wait. Actually it was fine, but after waiting in line about 20 times, it was kind of a let down. Never fear, we will do it again. Why not, I have been on Spaceship Earth about 100 times, and I love all the loops and twists in that.

We all know Jkay had a written list and I had the REAL list in my head and I wanted to mentally check a little sumpin off. There had been some changes over at Mission Space and I was going to give this a whirl. Remember I am a weenie and have a definite fear of the unknown, but I figured they had this down to a kiddies ride. So we skipped to a loo over and Jkay, R and I got in the weenie line and Grampy, who had done this many times, got in the big boy line. Let me preface this with WTH was I thinking!!!!

I hate, despise, and am terrified, shudder at the thought; my worst nightmare is an enclosed space. At no point did the neon sign flash, Grammy do not do this, under any circumstance. I willingly took my place. Don’t ask me what my job was, I have no clue. I had one mission, to continue to breath and live through the 3 minutes or so that this ride lasted.

Actually, it was fine for a half a second, when the door closed until the harness comes down, the panel moves in and is 2 millimeters from your face. Then panic of a level I cannot even begin to describe comes into play. Except everything you know, says don’t panic but still you panic. I tried to inhale but my lungs are feeling like they are crushed under the pressure of being buried alive. Gary is talking, and I think I might pass out. Jkay is screaming push the button. My head is spinning, I frantically search for the barf bag, not to barf, but to stop the hyperventilation, the blood is pumping in my temples, I am using extra oxygen trying to break free from the harness that has me pinned down, holding firm. Realizations that not only are you in a tiny space, but you are locked in, and basically can not move. I tried to scream, nothing came out. Every pore on my body is dripping sweat; my eyes are burning from the sweat. I pray the doors will open before I scrape my way out with only my fingernails. If there is hell on Earth, I am fully immersed in it. I start to pray that I will black out, to stop the terror. Then something even more unimaginable happens, my mind races to Grampy, experiencing this and spinning, and it is more than I can deal with. And with every ounce of energy I could muster I force my lungs to inhale and let out a blood curdling scream. And as I finally manage air in my lungs the harness lifts and the doors open.

That was the mild and edited version. Let me say that if you are even slightly apprehensive at doing this, DON’T.

I stumbled out of there. I could not walk straight, I was gasping for breath, a total basket case. Jkay and R seemed totally unaware that I just had 25 years of my life wiped out. I might collapse before we reach the exit. When I saw Grampy I literally fell into his arms. He was like “wasn’t that great.” I still couldn’t speak. I sat down on the 1st bench I saw. I had to keep reminding myself to inhale and exhale. Grampy realized all was not well and asked Jkay to get a bottle of water. I sat there for about 10 minutes, in total silence. Finally I said “I won’t be doing that again”. Not for a million dollars, not for world peace, not to feed all the poor. If those things depend on me, I would like to choose my poison, and I would rather face a firing squad without a final smoke. NEVER EVER AGAIN. Facing your fears is not everything it is cracked up to be. In fact, I need to go lie down now and recoup.

I hope there are no mistakes in those couple of paragraphs. I cannot even reread them. Two days have passed since I wrote that and I am still a little nervous. Forward motion.

After regaining my composure something calm was on the agenda. Let’s visit Ellen over at the Universe of Energy. I have no fear of huge, extinct, raw flesh eating dinosaurs so that is how we killed 45 minutes till my hands stopped shaking.

By now, my legs were less jelly like and I suggested heading to the World Showcase for a drink. Those of you that know me will find humor in that. I rarely indulge, like twice a year and I had 2 drinks in 2 days. The yearly average just doubled. No one objected so we went straight to Mexico, and Grampy ordered a Margarita (we shared because I can’t hold my liquor at all, btw) A couple of sips and I was really beginning to feel better. There is nothing like booze to calm the nerves of a non drinker. Anywho…Mexico was still the same as I remembered it. Nothing much had changed since October.

Traveling round the world led us directly to the home of the Vikings. It is predetermined by an act of Congress that we get some fastpasses (even if stand by is 5 minutes) for the Maelstrom. Photo op on every trip is also a requirement.

Continued touring the globe until we arrived at the American Adventure. Jkay pulled out her list and crossed it off before we even went in. Christmas Carolers doing a fantastic job were in the lobby and then we followed about 35 people through the hall of Flags and took center seats to enjoy the presentation. The crowd was as thin today as I have honestly ever seen it. Unbelievable. If you haven’t made time to catch everything the American Adventure has to offer, put it on your short list. The show is wonderful and a great rest for weary feet in comfy chairs.

AMERICANADVENTURE-1.jpg

We had big plans for this evening and decided a little mid day break would be a good idea. We had accomplished tons today and it was only around 2ish. Since the boat launch was right there and a boat was sitting and waiting for us, we took the cruise to the front of the World Showcase and headed back to the hotel for some down time.

Gram...I'm right there with you on the Mission Space thing. there is just no need to EVER do that one again in life! :thumbsup2

Love the pics! :)

I used to like thrill rides but not so much anymore. My excuse for not riding these rides is Hannah. I stay with her. Don't tell hubby about baby swap.

I see Plutopants has made an appearance or did you just grab another one off the shelf:rotfl2:

Grammy, I so borg with you on all that enclosed space stuff. Any thought of trying to do the mild version is forever erased from my mind.

Love your report!

Aw, Cheryl - so sorry you had a rough time riding Gary. I rode the mild version for the first time earlier this month and had no problem -- I loved it! And I was very relieved to have no problems with the harness thingie since I am Pooh-sized. I never even noticed the barf bags, I was so focused on "pressing the button" at the correct time :rotfl:

But you sure couldn't get me on the spinny one.

Added bonus - my friends and I received Dream Mouse Ears in the queue for this ride!!!!! They're very pretty. My one and only magical moment of the trip, but it was a goodie.

Nab - would I just grab any Pluto off the shelf??????:rolleyes1

You can't see the tag can you :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Hey Gram,
I am so said that you had a horrible experience with Gary. Please let your consolation be that you have protected this little viking from ever having to go through that. No WAY will I get on that ride now!!

Just read all the trip report you have now...and I'm feinging for more!!!

I love the Disney World--why can't it be MY turn yet?!

I admit it.....I'm behind in my reading. Just a little. I loved that your fans remembered you at B&B! We didn't get to see Four for a Dollar either. We were there on a Sunday and I guess that's their day off.

You needed Sher and mad skillz at Mama Melrose to get in early I guess? How does she do that anyway? The Osbourne Lights sound awesome. I have watched the YouTube video several times and agree it would be worth a trip for that alone.

About the picture above........awesome. What a memory! And I did notice you were wearing a parka and Grampy in a jacket and shorts and your friend with shorts and no jacket! I would've had a parka too...always, always cold.

Great installments, Cheryl from New Jersey! Back to reading.........

Grammy!

I missed your last installment!

EEK on the Mission Space adventure! I thought I might try that easier version. But you have me a little worried.

I've just gotta know - did y'all realize you were getting your picture taken at that point on Test Track? Did you try and look as bored as you possibly could? In fact, Grampy looks past bored and on to miserable. That's hilarious!

Still lovin' your report, woman! Keep entertaining us!!

During the Food and Wine festival I had tried the ice wine and fell in love. Our CM suggested I try an ice wine martini. It was luscious. We tried a little bit of everything on the menu; mussels, shrimp cocktail, cheese soup, filet, stir fry, seafood and linguine dish, and the crème brulle sampler. The maple crème brulee was the very best I ever had, and I am a crème brulee snob.

Grammy, I adored the mussels. Although I must say that I was served a few too many empty shells. Otherwise, they were scrumptious!

All caught up! Great 2 days at Epcot....with the exception of Mission Space.:scared: Thank goodness for alcohol!

The Candlelight Processional sounds fantastic and I loved the lighted archway although it's tough for me to picture exactly where it is? I must go to WDW sometime during Christmas!

Great installments...you are a fine writer, Cheryl. Can't wait to hear about your experience at the Rose & Crud...hope it's better than LaLa's. ;)

Grammy, LOVE your trip report! I did this...:lmao: and this :goodvibes and this :rotfl2: as I read. Sounds like a great time so far!

Just an aside...Why aren’t all the bananas dancing? Some are just standing there frozen. Oh, I get it, they must be frozen bananas, however, I don’t see any chocolate…:confused3

I have been lots of things in past lives, including a teacher and entrepreneur, or as my BF called it, a pile of manure.

Friends of mine started a pooper scooper business for pet-owners where they go and clean up their yards. They joked about naming their new business, “Entre-Manure”, but decided against it in the end. After they got their enterprise off the ground, I once made the mistake of asking, "How's business?" "It's picking up!" he replied with a straight face.;)

Has a shirt that says “the man, the myth, and the legend”.

Love it!

But, and this is a big but, Grampy is too excited to sleep. He shares that info about 478 times before he finally falls asleep, at around 2 AM. So much for leaving the kids at home.

Hee hee, I love you both already!

Throughout the whole morning ritual, I was raising the arms in victory and doing a little jig, I was going to Disney World.

Just as you should be!

When we see the signs for the airport we all squeal, loudly. We are FINALLY, REALLY, WITHOUT A DOUBT GOING.

I know that feeling! I miss that feeling!

Truth is, the farther off the ground we got, the weight of the world lifted. Everything that led up to this was being pushed to no man’s land. I was light as a feather, happy as could be. I would not be thinking about the stresses of the past year or those that were waiting when we returned. I was heading to the happiest place on Earth with the love of my life.

Beautiful!

Now, I realize that Magical Express is free, and I am all about the free, but I just like having a car service and for someone else to do the driving.

I’m with you on this.

Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to the next installment!!

I am all caught up and what a sweet read! Grammy this sounds like just the most awesome trip! I hate that you panicked on MS, there isn't a worse feeling and although you didn't go back to re-read it, you did an excellent job of passing the uneasy feeling to us. I have never wanted to ride it, and now I really will not ride it. So, thanks for the heads up!

Did you all find any beaver tail in Canada?

They should post the schedule on the DIS so that never happens again. Missing Four for a Dollar was a huge disappointment :sad2:
