Why didn't they just swab for flu?

Many of the doctors offices aren't swabbing for the flu here anymore - unless you're much sicker than what she currently is.. I'm going to go on the assumption that it's just a cold or a sinus issue.. Looking on the brighter side..:goodvibes

I know our office isn't swabbing for the flu because of the high incident rate of false negatives.

I know I'm probably just being a "dreamer", but the one consolation in all of this is that I keep thinking about how sick my DGD and her dad got last spring when this H1N1 was in full force.. They had been on a 4-day vacation with a large group of people who had come from an area where there were quite a few confirmed cases.. Although they both were swabbed at that time and it came back negative, I'm hoping their tests were among those "false" negatives and they have actually already had it..:thumbsup2
It's too bad there's no way of knowing for sure..

I think I've read that some people don't even get a fever with H1N1.

My DD6 however, did....5 days of 103.5. The good news is though, the rest of us didn't get it!

Hope she feels better soon!!

C.Ann, just seeing this and am sorry to hear your little DGD is sick :guilty:. Our 13yo DGS was under drs care with reg. flu and high fever for over a week, so know your concern. It's very worrisome watching our babies sickly and I truly send hugs and prayers for her speedy recovery.

I totally agree. Both of my kids had extremely high sustained fevers last month. They both tested negative (I knew of the false negative rate, but I didn't know that some offices wouldn't even test,) but I still wish they could have an antibody test so I can stop torturing myself over this shot. It's still not available, and I keep going back and forth wondering what the right thing to do is!

I'll keep you and yours in my prayers!

One in our home had a suspected case of h1n1 and it lasted about 4 days. Another had a suspected case and it lasted 2 weeks. The doctor said the test is so inaccurate they are better able to dx by examination. Though without the test, the sick folks should still be vacinated once well. This is a tough year to figure out what is best for the family!

For those looking for immunizations, call your local health department. I discovered while the offices didn't have enough on hand to run a mass clinic, the offices did have plenty of the mist available. We walked into the office and out with no line or wait, or copay.
