21st Anniversary Trip- Day 5- Thursday 5/3/01 Animal Kingdom, Rainforest Cafe, Flying Fish for our
anniversary dinner!
We start our 21st anniversary at Animal Kingdom, loaded for bear with raingear, so of course we had no rain at
all! We entered the park through the Rainforest Cafe gift shop and headed right to the safari to get fastpasses,
walking the Pangani Exploration trail during the wait time. On the Kilimanjaro safari, our driver was excellent
and very dramatic- our best so far! We saw a very high number of elephants on this trip, the feeding schedule must
be in our favor. After doing some shopping in Harambe Village, we walked to Asia where I photographed the
secret path. We did the Maharajah Jungle Trek and several tigers were out but mostly sleeping.
We went to the first showing of the day of Tarzan Rocks. We had never seen it before and enjoyed it, but once was
enough for us compared to our love of the Festival of the Lion King show which we have viewed extensively. I did
get some photographs of the very buff Tarzan- can you say 0% body fat and rippling muscles?
Leaving Dinoland, we then went to Discovery Island- formerly called Safari Village (all these name changes keep
me off balance a bit!) and watched Its Tough To Be A Bug (3D movie attraction). We always enjoy it but always
are sad to see parents who ignore the warning signs and put their small children through it, terrifying some witless
and not taking the screaming ones out (cruel and also ruining the experience for others). Some parents even laugh
at their terrified children. If anyone has any doubt that their child could handle it, they should watch it first to
judge it or pass on it. Nuff said!
We went to the Rainforest Cafe for our lunch priority seating and were seated immediately. We each had some
raspberry lemonade and some of the Chicken Rainstix. Earl got the catfish plate with slaw and waffle fries and I
had the Bama BBQ wrap with chips and salad greens. I took half of it back to the room to save in the cooler- those
huge portions!
When we arrived at our room, another bounty of moisturizers, shampoos, and facial & body soaps awaited us. At
this point it is embarrassing the amount we have. Ill just say that it is a good thing that we drove and didnt fly
because a carry on suitcase is about maxed out with toiletries. The bathroom very clearly has soap in it and our
shampoo and conditioners are on the tub in plain view but I guess my note the first day with the daily
mousekeeper tip Im leaving really paid off.
When we got ready to go to Epcot, it was rainy so out came the umbrellas. By the time we arrived, out came the
ponchos also! We headed to Canada to watch the 360 degree film O Canada- what an incredible view of
stunning scenery. They filmed it with 9 cameras attached to all sorts of vehicles (including planes and helicopters)
and really is an awesome sight. The Cast Member said they hoped in the next year or two to make a new film if
they could get sponsors.
We then went to the International Gateway and took the Friendship boat to the Boardwalk for our dinner at Flying
Fish for our 3rd visit there. Our waiter DiDi absolutely spoiled us, as has our past servers on previous visits. If we
left the table to go to the restroom, he folded our napkins like a swan. He made some suggestions for our meal and
we loved it all. We have yet to be disappointed at Flying Fish. He congratulated us on our anniversary and brought
us our Hail Caesar salads- deliciously garlicky and large (actually we could have shared one and probably will
next time). I like the presentation of full leaf Romaine- center leaves only of course and great croutons. Earl got the
potato-wrapped snapper with leeks and I got the tilefish with sweet corn-potato hash. They serve a chewy peasant
bread I really enjoy. Suddenly, DiDi brought out a complimentary dessert of a Black & White Creme Brulee with a
lit candle with raspberries and a fanned strawberry. Beautiful and delicious!
We had planned to spend the evening at Jellyrolls- the dueling piano bar on the Boardwalk, but we were so full and
content we werent up to high energy output, so we took the boat to MGM and a bus back to Riverside to kick back
and relax. Earl had been following Survivor and the finale is tonight so he is quite happy with the decision. PLUS
we sleep in the next morning! Yeah! A great day!
Tomorrow- Spoodles, Epcot, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Boma
