God bless all of you. What a heart warming story.
To the OP - Thank you for that post. In July of 1982 my 3 1/2 week old son had a brain hemorrage that left him brain dead. The hardest thing I had to do was sign permission for organ donation. I knew it was the right thing to do, and the logical thing to do, but that didn't make it any easier. Call me selfish if you want, but at the time I didn't care about the other children who were being saved, I just wanted my son to be saved. Over time, I think it's helped with the healing process that we were able to do the organ donation. When ever I meet or read about someone who had an organ transplant as a child I think of it as my son blowing me a kiss from heaven. With your post, I thank you and your daughter for a mother's day kiss from my Michael.
Your post touched my heart!
I've heard from others that donating organs helps with the healing process. I can't imagine how hard that time was for you. Just as we remember our donor family and cherish their gift, I'm sure others feel the same way about you.
I am sure your stories have touched so many and helped make the decision for others to be donors.
Hug your daughter for me!I am an organ donor and also contribute to the It's My Heart foundation since my cousin's son was born with HLHS and may someday need a heart transplant.
Yep, know HLHS well. That's what my daughter had. I'll check out that website!
My cousin just started the NJ chapter. It seems like a great foundation. Her son is doing very well...he has had the 3 phase surgery at CHOP in PA. My cousin just started the NJ chapter. It seems like a great foundation. Her son is doing very well...he has had the 3 phase surgery at CHOP in PA.
Thank you again for sharing your story.

Liz, Acklander...
22 years ago this July my son, Devin, lost his life 3 days after he was born. With him he took my dreams, my aspirations... and the name "Mom" from me.
My mother signed the papers for him to be a donor. I was too distraught.
Years later I heard that he donated at least six different organs, saving so many lives...![]()
He was more than a blessing, to me and so many others.
I smile today for several reasons....
I "met" TiggWDW on the American Idol thread. She is a sweet and lovable child, with an UNENDING love for Davey Archuleta. Your post makes me understand her so much more now. She's an amazing young lady, and you are VERY blessed.
Thanks for this post, Liz. For those of us who have lost a child, just knowing that our children's lives were not in vain... is a blessing indeed.

Thank you, Robin, for your kind words about Laura. And I'm so sorry you lost your baby Devin. We have come so close to being where you and Acklander are I can just feel your pain.

Update on Laura's condition (5/15/08):
Every year (sometimes more often) Laura has to have a heart cath and biopsy on to monitor how she's doing. Yesterday she had that procedure and we didn't get good news. She has something called "antibody mediated rejection". We've been through hard times before and pray that we will be blessed again with a full recovery. We ask for your prayers in her behalf if you are so inclined. Thank you.![]()

, I enjoyed her posts and her willingness to stand up for her favorite.
