21 years ago today a baby boy died

What a wonderful tribute. Happy Mother's day.

Wow, amazing story :grouphug:

I took a speech class bout 7 years ago, and I did a speech on the importance of organ donation, I believe in it wholeheartedly, congrats to your family and many thoughts for Robert and him mommy!

Thank you for sharing, and reminding people to be organ donors.

I definitely want to be one, and my DH would too. They can take anything they need, to help someone else in need, or just for research. I don't care. I won't need them anymore once I'm dead. I just don't understand people who don't want to be donors. If when I'm dead I can save other people's lives, or help in research, I think that is the perfect way to go out of this world!!

We talked about organ donation in my humanities class and I was amazed at how many of the college students were not donors. Many of them said that their parents didn't want them to be - because they didn't want to think about their children dying.

Which makes Robert's mama's gift all the more precious.

What a blessing.

Blessings to your lovely daughter and the little baby that died.
A wonderful rememberence...

I have been an organ donor since I was 18 years old. Ifsomething of mine can save someone else when I am done with then take whatever you need.

Your story was beautiful and brought tears to my eyes.

I can relate to your story in a big way. A 14 year old boy passed away from a diabetic shock and I thank God everyday that his parents gave the gift of life. My Dad got his liver and lived another 9 years because of it.

Wow!! How amazing. What a blessing!!

Shelby

What a wonderful Mother's Day story.

And just a note: In addition to signing your endorsement on your Driver's License, BE SURE TO LET YOUR FAMILY AND NEXT OF KIN KNOW if you intend to be an organ and tissue donor!

Doctors still need to get consent for organ donation from family members. They can't just go by your license.

OP, what a wonderful story! Thank you for letting us know the importance of organ donation.

Not only am I a donor, I've told my husband I'd haunt him if he didn't sign the form if I reached the point of no return.

What a amazing and touching story! God bless your DD and Roberts family.

To the OP - Thank you for that post. In July of 1982 my 3 1/2 week old son had a brain hemorrage that left him brain dead. The hardest thing I had to do was sign permission for organ donation. I knew it was the right thing to do, and the logical thing to do, but that didn't make it any easier. Call me selfish if you want, but at the time I didn't care about the other children who were being saved, I just wanted my son to be saved. Over time, I think it's helped with the healing process that we were able to do the organ donation. When ever I meet or read about someone who had an organ transplant as a child I think of it as my son blowing me a kiss from heaven. With your post, I thank you and your daughter for a mother's day kiss from my Michael.

Wonderful reading all that, Liz. Knowing some of the additional tough times Laura has been through, especially some years back, she sure is looking super. Beautiful. Continued good wishes and prayers for good health. Little Robert continues to live on, his mom, a blessing to you, Laura and maybe others.

And Acklander, your little guy lives on also.

Thank God for organ donors! Although my heart breaks for little Robert's family, I'm glad for yours, Liz.

The 16yo son of a friend of ours recently received a heart transplant. He was the picture of health, active and athletic, and very suddenly went into heart failure. He wouldn't be with us today if it weren't for his donor.

Acklander, I can't possibly know how hard it is to make such a decision, but I thank you for making it. :grouphug:

Wondreful story and an opportunity to share the importance of organ donation.

I was a living donor to my husband -- unfortunately for us the donated kidney failed for him. Some day he will get a new kidney, for now we wait.

Thanks to medical advances, being a kidney donor to just about anyone in need is possible. If you know someone in need .. step forward and see if you are a suitable donor (or for a donor swap match).

Living on dilaysis is a miserable life.. set someone free of the machine :flower3:
