As I was going to lunch today I was talking to a co-worker from another department and my upcoming trip to the World came up. DVC was mentioned and as it turns out this person had a recent stay at OKW in a GW. His Grandparents are owners and they had many family members staying in the GW.

21 :crowded: family members to be exact - 16 :crowded: adults and 5 :crowded: children !

Now thats over the top :earseek:

Tell me you are kidding...........................

Can't imagine where they put all those people (but then I'm a BWV owner and used to those itsy-bitsy, teeny, tiny rooms)! :p:p:p

Doesn't sound like much of a good time to me!

Not kidding.
He was very serious, explaining how they had air-matresses and cots!
I did not even mention the Occupancy Limits ;)
I guess they must be a very close family.
Or maybe they were before the trip:p

OMG, this is really pushing the limits! They must have had wall to wall bodies at night with people sleeping on the floors. The GV's are large and spacious but 21 people! That does not sound like it would be an enjoyable vacation to me. I do not think I would want to be in 1 villa with 20 of my family members even if the GV's were capable of sleeping 21 people. A little too much togetherness, IMO.
I guess this OKW member really believes in taking full advantage of the larger rooms! I wonder how many other times they have done this? :crowded:

They probably chose OKW so they could park outside the unit and sneak in. Another reason why this wouldn't happen at the BWV.;) Can you imagine what the valet would say when they all got out of the car?

Wouldn't that have to be a bus? :)

ROFL...like a Valet would stop someone from putting 21 in a Grand Villa......too funny.

Anyhow, I had a family reunion last year, my Aunt told me there were 24 of them, and they were willing to double up and bring sleeping bags and such. I said NO, got 2 Grand Villas and a 2 bedroom for us. It was crowded with 2 Grand Villas! I can't imagine there being 21 in one Grand Villa. Obviously, DVC can't do anything about something they don't know about. I just can't imagine what the family in the room below that Grand Villa heard! YIKES!

No I said car on purpose. I figure if they are willing to put 21 in GV they probably had 21 in their Volkswagon Beetle too.

And the limit?

On the first floor you have the master bedroom with 1 king, the living room with a queen pullout. Upstairs you have 1 bedroom with 2 queens and 1 bedroom with 2 doubles. Bathroom in each bedroom plus a bathroom off the living room. Maximum is supposed to be 12. What I can't imagine is the lineup for the bathroom in the morning. Comes out to more than 5 people per bathroom!

Unfortunately, this is not the first "over the top" story I've heard. My sister-in-law also had a co-worker who reported back about a large family gathering in a 2 bedroom.

Don't kid yourself that these abuses only happen at OKW. I would hope DVC would step in when they see a situation like this. They put in rules to deal with other abuses (like towels and soap)....this should be no different.

I find it hard to believe that someone thought that this would be a dream vacation!:earseek: I wonder if this was Grandma and Grandpa's way of showing the relatives just what they thought of them:teeth:

If a GV has about 2,375 square feet, then that is 113 square feet for each person. I wonder what they did with the furniture and fixtures :teeth:

I am sure it happens at ALL the WDW resorts whether they are DVC or not, but I bet it happens more at OKW than any other WDW resort because they have such BIG rooms.

There are prices to pay for constantly tooting about being the largest, biggest, and size, size, size. It gives people ideas on how easy and managable it is fit more people in the room than the occupancy limit, even 9 people more, as the OP has pointed out.
