21 in an OKW GW

I can't think of 21 people I would want to spend a week with in one hotel room - three bedrooms or not!

This is just too absurd!

LOL! This reminds me of the time we had 7 of us (3 were very large men) in a 2 bedroom, and we decided on a whim to all try to get there in the same rental car! We got to the toll both and nobody could get to a wallet!

We laughed so hard all the way from the airport to OKW!

I have stayed under a group of teen girls that numbered 24 in a 2bd at hhi. The constant running up and down the stairs and the door slamming. By the 2 nd day, some teen boys looking for the girls climbed up the balcony and broke in to my unit. (thinking we were the girls unit) they were very sorry. But the screaming, and fussing and music and dancing and stomping drove me crazy. we were the ones that had to move. Front desk did nothing to move them out. oh yeah, it was a non smoking unit and they all smoked out on the balcony all the time. That is ok usally, but they were really trying to look cool, so it seemed that they smoked a whole lot, the lovely view of the woods was covered in butts as they were tossed over the rail. Still nothing done to them. My point is, DVC might have the rules, but I have never seen it enforced. Even at VWL when some one had their dog in a unit. I had never seen a ADA approved poodle before.

What about the maid? Didn't she notice something fishy... think about all the soap and towels they used! I asked for a cot to be placed in the 2BR we're staying at in March and they said no. So my DS will be sleeping on the couch.... I think he'll be ok though.

Can you imagine the line for the toilet?

shariskates,

Since DVW owners staying in a DVC unit do not receive housekeeping, it was unlikely a maid would have noticed the amount of towels and/or soap used. Sure they could have paid for maid service but since they were obviously breaking the occupancy rules and hording their money but not getting enough rooms for their group I seriously doubt they would have paid for maid service.

As for the refusal of a cot for your unit, this is standard protocol within a DVC unit. They will not provide any additional bedding beyond that needed for the occupancy of the unit using the existing beds/sofabeds. This is to discourage over-occupancy and also keeps costs/dues down for owners. Your son should be very comfortable on the couch - the sofabeds are said to be comfortable by many who have slept on them.

I too find it hard to believe that this group was not reported by neighbors. I would have noticed and said something right away. It is not safe for the too-large group and it is not fair for those staying around them.

Kind of reminds me of the the old circus act where the tiny car comes out and all the clowns keep coming out of it.

Well, at least they did pose for the traditional group photo.

While you may be right that the doggie was a stow-away, there are poodles that are certified as "Hearing Ear" dogs for the deaf. I had a friend in college with one.

It's rare... but possible!

As for all those unsupervised kids at HH -- oh man -- I would have seriously lost my cool. And it is possible that the "points owners" (i.e. their parents) were not part of this abuse of points. It could be that the pts owners said, "Sure hon, you can take a friend or 2 down to HH... just be responsible and respectful...."

And then darling daughter spread the word -- HH, and the room's on me... and then a few girls told their boyfriends... and so on and so forth... if they were from somewhere nearby (i.e. within a day's drive), it's easy to see how it could be a crashed party. THe parents (or whoever gave 'em points) could be oblivious that all this transpired.

In any case, I would have been in DVC's face the entire time, making sure they took it all the way to the pts owner. If the pts owner then said, Yup, that was my evil plan all along, to send my derelict teens to HH and rain on your vacation...Whatcha gonna do about it? I suppose then, out of frustration and duress, I'd just move away and move on, but I would definitely want some sort of official response from DVC. Did they give you any?

I feel that if someone else "breaks the occupancy rules", yet I can see no way it impacts me or the surrounding neighbors, I can't really bring myself to exit vacation mode in order to raise a beef over it. HOWEVER -- if a rule-breaker takes me out of vacation mode to begin with by visibly jeopardizing safety, compromising vacation quality, and in your case, invading one's privacy, even -- well, something has to be done! People standing on the street can be fined for disturbing the peace; I see no reason teenagers in DVC shouldn't be similarly held accountable (or the 21 clowns in the OKW volkswagon, too, for that matter -- although we have no personal accounts of how well behaved they were or weren't!)

gopherit, you have a good point. The parenst might not have even realized how many kids showed up.
I kinda remeber thsoe younger days....
From what i recall I don't think thsoe girls even realized there were DVC rules. That is when most are in total self absorbed worlds.............
man, I'm dreading thsoe days with my girls! :(

Maybe I'm just foolish but I feel that putting 21 people in a unit that is designed for 12 is unsafe ( fire safety and how many can the balconey hold?) and inconsiderate to other DVC owners and those in neighboring units. We all pay the same dues (based on ownership) and it's not fair to any of us to have excessive wear on a unit. I would think it takes a bit longer to clean a GV that housed 21 than one that housed 12! I am not a supporter of 'big brother is watching' but I would have to make the front deak aware of the situation. Hopefully this is not the norm.

Granny: Is that a Granny family reunion of some sort? Which one are you. The guy with his hands up or the one with the long hair? (Hence the name Granny)?;)

Obviously they were inspired by the John Denver song,
"It'd hold eight kids and four hound dogs
and a piggy we stole from the shed.
Didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of fun
on Grandma's feather bed!"

No, that's the picture from the 21 visitors in the OKW GV! Of course, some of them seem to have invited some other friends for the day to visit with them!! :)
