2025 American Thanksgiving thread. 🦃 🥧 🍠 🥔

I'm so excited for Thanksgiving! We spend every Thanksgiving at Disney's Hilton Head Resort, and this will be our 20th consecutive year. I'm just a little nervous about the government shutdown and Air Traffic Control will affect us getting there. There've been lots of changes over the years, but it's still Hilton Head!

I love Thanksgiving, sometimes we travel and meet with family in a rental house, and other years we're at home. This is a home year. I always make way too much food, I always want every single Thanksgiving related food item. And then we also have a mix of vegetarian, pescetarian, omnivores.

Add me to those that love this holiday. This year looks a bit different for us as neither of our adult kids or their wives will be with us, and neither will some other family that usually joins us. So it looks like a small group of just 5. But - that is ok, and we will still have a lovely evening. I enjoy every aspect of Thanksgiving. The shopping, the cleaning, the cooking, the cleaning up. I'll miss a busy, boisterous loud house but there will be other years to come with that....Plus Husband leaves for a hunting trip the day after so i get the get the house straightened up and whatnot and then decorated to my liking for the Christmas holidays at my pace. A nice, long 3 day weekend all to myself. I think I'll schedule a massage for myself during that time as well!

We usually do Thanksgiving at my parents house but they are neck deep in a kitchen renovation and everything is piled in the dining room. I hope they finish up before then but if not my brothers live close by and I hope one of them will volunteer to host. Our house isn’t big enough.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday but also bittersweet, as we lost my lovely MIL on Thanksgiving day in 2018 (11/22). We came home from a lovely holiday celebration at our friends' home to the phone message that we'd lost her.

This year, DD is working on Thanksgiving, so instead of having a traditional meal, I'll make my "World Famous" (according to the LittleGuy) macaroni and cheese, and we'll have it with salad for the 5 of us. We'll do a family holiday celebration on Saturday, when DD doesn't have to work and can help with all the baking, cooking, etc. Two of my nephews will be joining us for the weekend, and we might invite a couple of friends, too.

Not sure yet what we are doing for Thanksgiving. For many years my parents took us to a restaurant for dinner, and even after Dad passed away Mom still did it a few more years. Then after she moved into a nursing home we brought her to our house the next two years for Thanksgiving dinner. Funny story with that, the first time we had her at our house I cooked a turkey and all the trimmings. She hardly touched her food so I asked her about it, she said she would have preferred spaghetti 😮. So, the next year we had spaghetti! 🤣

For a few years after Mom passed we got dinners from Bob Evans. Turkey breast along with dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sides, rolls and pumpkin pie. It was all packed cold, just needed reheating. It would feed us 2-3 days and we really enjoyed it. Then it kept going up in price each year and the food quality (and fullness of the containers) went downhill so we stopped doing it. Sometimes our daughter invites us to their house, she hasn’t mentioned it yet so they may have other plans.

Edited to add: 2:45 p.m. Our daughter just texted to invite us over for dinner🦃. I’m taking pies to contribute🙂

We'll have our traditional meal. This year we have a guest from England with us; and it will be the first Thanksgiving for my great-granddaughter. My one daughter lives in Michigan and is never with us for Thanksgiving anymore, but she'll be here for Christmas.

I’ll be cooking for my husband, younger son, nephew , and cousin. Then my son, daughter in law, grand dog, and a couple of dear friends will come for dessert and hopefully board games. We will be watching the parade and football of course too!
