2022 - When should we go?

We have money burning a hole in our pocket (no, really, we have a credit for DVC and need to book something by Sept 2022, though the trip doesn't have to be complete by then). While we can use it at any DVC, we'd like to try to use it for 3-4 nights at Grand Californian. Our first choice is Thanksgiving 2022, but if that doesn't pan out, when else should we look at? I'm a teacher, so sticking to school breaks and holidays is preferable, or I need to wait until after the new school year starts since I'm using all my personal days for the WDW trip.

Right now I'm thinking sometime in summer, but I have no idea when a good summer option might be.

Is VGC your home resort? If not, it’s going to be really difficult to find any availability 7 mo in advance, especially during Thanksgiving. I don’t know when your summer break starts, but the week before Memorial Day has been less crowded.

We don't own, we'll be renting points. We have a large credit from a canceled 2020 trip. I put in the request for Thanksgiving, so the rental store will start shopping it around at 11 months for us. We'll see! I know Thanksgiving will be a tough time to go, so that's why I need back up plans. Unfortunately, school isn't out until mid-June for us. We go back right after labor day, with teachers reporting the week before.
