2018 Princess Half Marathon

They will show up once they are open to register.

Correct. And unless you are starting very very very last, you actually get more than 16 minutes per mile b/c it's based on the last person starting.

Bras? I have a Champion that is decent. Many have recommended one or two Victoria's Secret sports bras; one of them has the normal style, then there's a front zipper to sort of cinch you in.

Find a local running store and head in. Start by finding out what shoes have wide width for women (though honestly I'm starting to think about going for a very small men's shoe in normal width just to expand my choices) and THEN have them look at your gait and suggest shoes. I say to start with the wides because you don't want to waste your time if that store doesn't have many wides in stock to try on.
Thank you Bumbershoot! The reassurance that you gave me is appreciated.
I have started to look at men's sneakers. Stupid arch doesn't line up. Nikes so far have the least less comfortable feel. I broke my left foot when I was young, so 2 different sized feet :-( thank you again :-)

I'm thinking of men's to see if their arch lines up with mine. Women's shoes never have for me. :)

It's also a reason why I've gone as minimal as possible, because they don't try to shove a hill into my foot that is flat right there. :)

Another bra recommendation....I wear Moving Comfort Fiona. I don't have a ton on top, but what I do have doesn't bounce at all with these bras!

Looking ahead to AP registration later this week, what races tend to fill up fastest? I'm planning for challenge + 5k and my mom is looking for 5k + 10k. We'll have 2 computers and I've already made her Active profile. Which should she register for first? I'm hoping it won't be an issue with the early registration but it wouldn't be Disney planning without obsessing over something that's turns out just fine

So, I purchased my AP today and linked it to my account in My Disney Experience. Is there a way to test the passholder page on the runDisney site before Thursday? I clicked on the link from the passholder page on the Disneyworld site, but it just takes me to the home page of the runDisney site. Maybe it doesn't appear until noon on Thursday? I'm just nervous....

And now my son is talking about running the 5K - can I sign him up on Thursday as well? He's not a passholder...

I feel like sometimes the Challenge Mania takes over at run Disney and the idea of running just one race isnt even considered.
Totally agree! I'm doing Dopey and know without a doubt that I only want to run one Princess race and thought I had it nailed down as the half... but am now finding myself thinking "or I could do the 10K... or the 10K and 5K... or the 10K and half..." o_O

Hi Everyone! my friend and I are going to sign up to do the a Princess 5K. This will be our first race. I am sort of terrified of the whole registration process and the race. I am hoping that someone can ease my fears.
1. On the Active.com website, the Princess races will show up bc they are not visible now?
2. As long as we keep the 16 mile per min. pace we will not get swept up?
3. Anyone have any tips on sports bars for a small-medium frame but too much on top...if you know what I mean?
4. I have wide feet and always wear New Balance..any other shoes I should look into?
5. Anything else..I should be asking?
Thank you so much.
1. Yes,m they will, but I've never started in Active when registering; I start on the rD page and click the link when it goes live at 12pm.
2. Correct. Just remember that that 16:00/mi pace includes any stops you make for pics, potties, etc.! The clock keeps running, so rD suggests training for a 15:00/mi pace.
3. I'm a petite gal and love my C9 bras from target. I love them even more when I find them on the clearance rack for $6 lol!
4. Lots of shoe options out there - best bet is to visit a running specialty store and get professionally fitted!

There won't be a link to the actual registration until day-of, so there's nothing to test right now. Take a look around 11:50am Thurs and keep refreshing! Yep, you can register your son, too.

Fantastic! Thanks so much for the quick response!

Especially now that the medals are changing. I already had envy of the seashell 10K medal they had that Princess weekend- but now they seem to be making only the Challenge medals spinners so if I want one...I understand the mania I just have to fight to resist it!

I'm excited to find out what the theme will be for next year. I did the GSC this year as my very first half & had a blast! I'm already signed up for the challenge next year & have convinced my best friend to do the 5k (she's not a runner & plans on starting her training soon), so I'll be signing up for that one with her when it goes on sale as well.

So you can early register for other people who don't have an AP or DVC membership? Does this only apply to the shorter races? In my running group I'm the only AP, DVC member. We're planning on doing only the half. Is there a limit to how many people one can register early under one AP or DVC membership?

To my understanding, AP/DVC members are only allowed to register family members in their immediate household.

Like many others, I too am very surprised by big change in registration times. Most races registrations are released 8-9 months out. Now it seems it's 10-11 months! It wouldn't be so frustrating if the races didn't sell out right away and people had several months to decide. Fortunately, it appears the sell out times are slowing growing.
I ran the 2017 Princess 1/2 (my first half) and they opened up registration for this year's participants the first week of March (less than 2 weeks after the previous race). I signed up for the Fairy Tale Challenge then, but I was planning to register when it opened up for passholders. Money was tight seeing as I just returned from a 5 day stay, but I wanted to make sure I got in.

Under the Fairy Tale Challenge it says "If you finish both races within the pacing requirements, you will be awarded the 5th Anniversary Disney Fairy Tale Challenge finisher medal in addition to your 10th Anniversary Half Marathon and 10K finisher medals."

Does anyone know what that means? If you sign up for the challenge, but don't meet the pacing requirements, do you not get the medal? I'm assuming this means that if you complete the 10k but get swept in the half then you don't get the medal?
I heard that you have to actually cross the finish line to get the challenge medal. If you get swept up you cannot get the challenge medal but you will still get the individual race medals. Hopefully, someone else can confirm or elaborate.

Hey I appreciate this! I personally want the accomplishment of completing the half marathon and I feel like running through Disney will be a great motivation. I seem to be getting good feedback that 1 year is enough time. I don't want to take any chances of pushing myself more than I should or having unrealistic expectations. I'm not a great runner by any means(I have bad form) but training with my friend will be a giant help I believe. I will take your advice and try and get a 10k under my belt ! Thank you so much!
I started running January 2016 and I was fine for my first 1/2 for PHM Feb 2017. You do definitely have to be dedicated to the training though, it takes up alot of time toward the end with the longer distances.

I finished PHM 2017 just over the 16 min/mi pace and I never saw the balloon ladies or the pacers on the bikes.

I have a similar build and I have been wearing the high impact versions from Tek Gear (I got mine at Kohl's but I have also seen them at JC Penney).

I have not had any luck with New Balance, the toe box is too narrow. I've tried several different manufacturers and I prefer Puma and Saucony.

This is right. : ) I had to drop out of the Avengers half last year due to injury and I was given the half marathon medal but not the infinity gauntlet even though I had registered as a challenge participant and finished the 10K the day before.

Yes.

And the pacing requirement is wording they keep on having, but they don't check on it. I suppose they could, but... For now, and hopefully for the future, as long as you aren't swept, you get your challenge medal once you finish all the challenge races you signed up for.
