2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

Here's my feeling about this. I don't know specifically what is being referred to here, but I have been in similar online discussions about lack of training. I'm never going to tell someone not to even bother to go if you haven't trained. HOWEVER, what I am going to say is go into it with your eyes wide open, listen to your body, and don't do anything you'll regret later. Pixie dust will unfortunately not keep you from getting hurt. I have actually been on the other side of this where I have been attacked for being realistic. I want to encourage people, but I also want to tell them the truth from my own personal experience.

Oh, totally agree - I think being realistic with how much training you've done and how prepared you are is incredibly important. I may have gotten the wrong impression from the previous poster, and certainly didn't mean to stir the pot too much :)

In other news - holy crap early registration for DVC/AP is in TWO DAYS??? This is freaking me out a little bit!

I did do my "long" run today - 4 miles - and I actually didn't do intervals. I ran a mile, walked 1 minute, then ran until the next mile. Hard, but a good challenge :D

So I'm hoping to register in the 5th with DVC/AP early registration. Is it correct that I'm not seeing any special links now on the DVC site? This will be my first runDisney event so I'm really hoping I'm prepared. I have my active account set up.

Correct! They'll appear sometime Tuesday morning, but won't be live until noon-ish. :)

As for feeling welcome in threads...this one is not one I feel so welcome in anymore.... Again, sorry to the people I offended! I am glad to hear there is just a few bad apples at the race. Makes me a lot happier going in.

I for one hope you still stay around the thread and even post questions, thoughts etc. A discussion thread is for people to discuss issues and have deferring opinions and respectively disagreeing if needed.

I like reading all the questions and answers and hopefully passing on information/questions. As in life, we all need to brush off the really tacky posts and comments:flower1:

And on a more positive note....can't believe two days until early registration for visa and DVC owners! Ohhhhh...the pressure builds !

I'm the type of person who hates color runs and those sort of thing because (almost) everyone comes in with the mindset that they are walking. I had an absolute miserable time at one of those events because people shout "why are you running?!?" at me as I run by.

And yes, it makes it a really negative experience for me. When I run races, those around me also help me to bring me to my finish and goals. I'm never going to be the first person finishing.

As a really competitive person, I always have a hard time understanding why people don't try their best....and it makes me angry, (and I know it shouldn't,but I can't help it) but that's a personal issue (which is why, again, I was asking if the norm of this race is people just walking a mile and then waiting for a bus). I realize that there will be people there trying their absolute best and they will be walking it. That's fine. One of my good friends is going to be one of those people! But I'm just happy I can mentally prepare (know) about these bus people! I'm also glad to hear from the previous people that they are just a few bad apples.
I get what you're saying. I take running and training seriously (too seriously sometimes) and I used to get angry at some of the discussions that would come up regarding Disney races. There are a lot of opinions and things that I just don't agree with.

But eventually I realized that getting angry over what others are doing just isn't worth it. I'm paying for this race, I'm training for it, I'm running it. ME ME ME!! These races are pure fun for me, and I refuse to let anyone else ruin my good time.* It's made the whole lead-up to the races and the races themselves way more enjoyable. I realize it's easier said than done, but like others have said, you just have to realize and accept that others don't have the same mindset that you do. I'd hate for the experience to be ruined for you.

*having said that, I'm not going to be prancing around thinking I own the place. I'll still practice good race etiquette and all of that. But no self-absorbed, self-entitled princesses are going to ruin the good time for me! ::yes::
Any solo runners? this will be my first PHM :flower1:
Me! I'm excited!

I don't think anyone was trying to make you feel unwelcome. I think the issue was that some of your posts implied that people who are walking have not trained and/or have not taken it seriously. There are a lot of walkers here who work really hard to prepare, so that may be where that vibe came from.

Also, I think some of us were trying to help you realize that you'll enjoy yourself a lot more if you don't worry about what other people are doing. We were just trying to help. I hope you'll stick around.

Me! I have done all of my Disney races (and all but one otherwise) solo! It's actually fun and easy to make friends!

Thanks! Im so jealous that AP holders get to register Tuesday but whats one more week right!?
Yes, and - important to keep in mind, while AP and DVC get the chance to register early, we aren't guaranteed spots. Only 5-10% of all registrations will be up for grabs next week. So we get an extra chance but nothing is guaranteed! :) it'll actually be easier to get in on 7/12.

Exactly. Don't worry if you don't get in that day. There are many more spaces open on general registration day.

Im doing it solo too!! I wondered if anyone knows how runDisney estimate your time for a half marathon if you have only submitted a 10k time? I finished one yesterday in 1hr5min. It was such a shame as i was doing well until the last mile where we were faced with a huge hill to the finish line It slowed me right down!

That's pretty close to what they use.

You've got plenty of time to do another one! Try to check out the course map and find one that's flat and fast.

Yup. They use the McMillan calculator, with about a generous minute.

Good luck to everyone registering tomorrow! And after DVC/AP early registration closes tomorrow, I'll post the backdoor link!!

Wish I could join you all in 2017, but it looks like I'm going to keep it close-to-home and do a local ultra instead.

Has anyone seen pricing yet? Im searching at still cant find it?

Where will the link be for registration? Is it on the passholder page or rundisney? The way my morning is going itll be a miracle if I even find it, let alone get registered lol

**Nevermind I already knew the answer to this ....just way too scatterbrained this morning! lol
