2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

Hey everyone! Just jumping in on the conversation here. I'm planning on doing the Princess Half this coming year. I've ran a couple of halfs before and highly enjoy them. I can't seem to get myself to train for a full though.

Now the fun part.. I am trying to convince my husband to come and watch. He's never been to Disney before and really doesn't have a desire to. Anyone got any ideas on how to convince him? He keeps saying we will go in a few years once we have children and they are old enough to experience it. Me on the other hand, who has their 17th trip planned for September, can't wait that long.

Tell him he HAS to experience it before kids-so many fun "grown up" things to do. If he's a foodie, sell him with restaurants. That's how I try to win my husband over-with Disney meat.
You could also call it a "scouting trip". Going with kids is overwhelming. It's much better when you already know where you're going and what you're doing.

@Lionessrampant welcome!!

First of all, a 5K IS a huge deal. :) That is a great goal you have set for yourself!

The 5Ks aren't great for spectating, but the nice thing is that your mom can see you at the start AND finish pretty easily. It would probably be easiest if she took the bus to the starting area with you the morning of the race. Eventually you'll get to the corrals, which are runners only, but she can hang out with you before then. The start and finish lines are very close together - within walking distance - so she could watch the start and then head over to the grandstands at the finish area, take a seat and wait for you to complete your race.

Thanks so much for answering that Ariel484! I was worried she wouldn't get to see me. That is if she can make it down with me. It might just be a solo trip for a solo run! I'm very excited tho. Nervous but excited!

Four words: Drinking. Around. The. World.

And if he's not running the half with you, they do serve* (sell) beer to those waiting in at the finish area .... it did seem to make the wait more paletable!

All this, and me being the Devil's Advocate:
Tell him to come be supportive of you or you can go alone? LOL.

Can someone recommend a website to find local timed races besides Active.com?

Check out some of your local running stores. I'm on the e-mail list for two of the big running stores here in Orlando and they send me info for races all over the area. Most are 5ks, but they also send info on Half and Full marathons when they're happening.

Any idea of when we'll start to get hints of our theme for Princess now that we're less than 30 days out from passholder registration? I need to know whether to budget $350 or $430 -- the 5K is only if I like the princess being featured. ;)

I'm getting nervous just thinking about registration.

I'm guessing we won't see any possible hints until 1-2 weeks before registration. I'm hoping they'll do what they did last year - tweet out a "registration tips" graphic that points to who it is. Last year it was seashells for bullet points, maybe this year it'll be apples? :scratchin

I'm not help but you're not alone in your eagerness to know! I've been checking in here daily to see if the theme is out! Someone above said it may have come via Instagram/Facebook first last year. Can't wait to find out and plan costumes!!

I think we've discussed it earlier in the thread (too lazy to look) but the strong rumor is Snow White for 2017.

We have -- it's definitely been mentioned before. But I feel like a kid at Christmas waiting to open presents. I don't want rumors, I want answers. :rotfl:

Is runDisney the Twitter account that posts the registration tips? I want to make sure I am following the right one :o

Do you have questions that we can help with now?

This board has been so helpful so far! This will be my first Disney race, so I am just nervous about the half marathon selling out before I can get in. I was going to do the Glass Slipper Challenge, but I think I have decided to just do the half (not an early morning person:laughing:)

Do you know when the cutoff for submitting POT might be? I have completed one half, but have another planned for 11/12 and would love to improve my time.
