2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

While I'm out running a 10 miler, you all are getting corral placement.
Woke with a sore throat yesterday morning, but was determined to get this in. So with my head cold I went out. Bonked at mile 9 and walked the last mile, and recovery has me on the couch horizontal. Time to go look at waivers.

Got my corral, but will not being running that fast this year. Too many visit to see the new granddaughter and moving and I haven't put in the training. And magic band came today.

OK...I am NOT in the last corral...yay!! I looked up my sisters bib for the half...she is in L. My bib for the GSC puts me in K, but I guess I'll be dropping back to L. That's OK...it's just one corral. I am pretty happy with it! Was worried about not having POT and where I'd end up.

So do you find out 5K corrals at packet pick up or the morning of the race? Never done this before. Also, I just realized that I put my shirt size as small and there's no way in heck I"m going to fit into in any time soon (darn baby weight!!). Can you change sizes at the expo?

Yes you can. After you pick up your shirt, there will be an booth/area where you can exchange for a different size. (This is my 1st runDisney, but I called about something else a while back and asked about this as well. I am almost always a size medium, but started worrying that they will run really small or something, so I had to ask just in case.)

For 5K, you can kinda guess based on your bib number with a Google Image search.

I was 41586 last year and was in A, so expect the corrals to break down every 1500-1700 numbers.

Question. The waivers for my daughter do not list her correct city/state, as she has moved since registration. Is this going to cause problems when she picks up her packet? Her ID will be her license for the state she lives in now, not the one she lived in at the time of registration.

Your corral will be printed on your bib when you go to pick it up. I'm expecting them to have F corrals for the 5K and 10K.

I'd highly recommend that EVERYONE try on their shirts before leaving the expo in case anyone wants to exchange...their sizing is not exactly consistent. :confused3

I don't *think* it will be a problem, as long as her name and DOB match between her ID and the waiver...but you may want to send runDisney an email, just in case. :)

I'm in N... not amazing but anticipated based off of my cancelled half bib and two terrible PoT races. So i'll probably be roughly around that for tinkerbell too. I can live, but need to speed up for Dopey

yes you can change sizes at the expo. I've done it before. Its also clearly labeled where to go so its not hard to do. I think it says SHIRT EXCHANGE or something along those lines.

Does runDisney merchandise run pretty true to size? Also, can anyone point me in the direction to look at prices for merchandise? I tried googling blogs and this and it seems everyone just mentions that they spent a lot at the expo... ha! I need to pick up disney gift cards at target before I leave and would like to have a rough idea of the damage I could do ;)

I am starting to realize the enorimity of the Princess 1/2 compared to the DL 1/2s my dd (15) has done. This will be her third 1/2 but it's her first at WDW. So many people, lol.

She got corral N. It was based off her first 1/2 time Tink May 2016 . Her next 1/2 is Tink in may she will be better off corral wise because she cut a lot of time off at the Lightside half this past January. It was too late to update her time for this one. Which is ok - I know she will finish and she's not going for a PR.

That being said, I (as mom) am a little nervous about the number of people. Its seems so much larger than the DL ones. There looks to be a lot of people in her corral.

Are there any tips you have that I can share with her? How long is there between each corral release?

We have talked a lot about race ettiquette and safe ways to pass people as well as safe ways to get out of peoples way if she needs a walking break or someone needs to pass her. I just want to make sure she has a good plan going into the run. I want her to have fun. I don't know when she will have the change to do a run at WDW again. We are DL locals so she can still do run Disney events but with her school schedule getting busier this was the only WDW we could schedule while she is in high school.

Thank you !!

she'll be with me! I have the race retreat but if she needs help in the corral or getting there I can be there for her if you'd like me to be. I'm doing this race solo. She can feel free to not start with me. or if it'll make you feel better just knowing someone is there to watch out for her in case of anything.

What specifically are you interested in? I remember that the jackets were $80-$90 and most people say they run small. The I Did It Shirts were $30-$35 and I think those are pretty true-to-size. I can't remember much else (sorry, not super helpful).

If you have an AP, DVC membership or a Disney Visa, don't forget to ask about discounts. I know AP and DVC get them on the official merch but I can't remember if Disney Visa does.

Lets see, tips...bring throwaway clothes to wear before the race starts, for sure. There's about a 20-minute walk from the staging area to the corrals, which seems like a lot...but I think it's a nice way to warm up, sort of. There will be porta-potties in the staging area, but that won't be the last of them - there are also some right outside of the corrals and the lines will almost certainly be shorter there.

The course is fairly flat...we run down and then up an incline near the Contemporary resort (mile 4ish). There's an overpass near mile 10 that we run up as well. My biggest tips for the course would be to pay attention to the slope of the roads...I didn't do that for my first Princess Half and my knees were killing me by mile 10. Also be prepared for the bottle-necking, which may be a little different from Tink - running up Main Street, through the castle and the portion right after Magic Kingdom will be crowded. Approaching the Contemporary (mile 4ish) may also be crowded, as I remember we run in 1 lane of traffic there. Would a more detailed description of the course help?

This is from the marathon but the corral set-up is the same...I would expect the start times for Princess half to be similar. So she will have a bit of a wait (again, bring throwaway clothes to keep warm!) but nothing crazy.

@Tinkerbell's Mom Is your daughter running alone? The corrals are at least a half mile from the staging area and you will not be allowed to go with her to them unless you are running too...it is well lit and with lots of volunteers directing. It is pretty easy to chat some one up once in the corral. Last year at the Tinkerbell, I had a nice conversation with a young lady and saw her at the end so that was pretty cool. The first corrals go off every couple of minutes, but I think (and other can help here) there is more time between corrals. And there is FIREWORKS for the start of each corral. There will be porta potties at the staging area and again need the corrals. And if you are not running be sure to move to the MK to watch her, free to go in.
