use the current point chart as a guide as they do not change much from year to year

A number of years ago DVC would book DCL without the points charts being available. The problem was you were committed to the exchange even if the costs changed significantly. Of course this was before they stretched the bookings out to up to 2 yrs out like they do now. I haven't heard of this in some time, but in some cases it has the potential to allow usage of points that might not be usable otherwise. For the right situation it'd be worth asking if they still allow that.
