2016 Olympics: Decision on Friday

The heads of state from all four bid cities were present, not just Obama. London won the 2012 summer games after Prime Minister Tony Blair lobbied at the selction meeting and Sochi won the 2014 Winter Games after President Putin attended the selection meeting.

Thanks for correcting me, I didn’t know that.

But eve if I knew that, I still would have said that from those two O’s visiting, one was too many…

I'd love to see the games in my hometown.

So, the IOC is only corrupt since Chicago places 4th rather than 2nd?

Seriously?

And you wonder why your whine sounds like sour grapes?

When analysts (including those from outside the U.S. and certainly those not associated with the Chicago bid) indicate that not only was the Chicago bid the strongest bid ever made by a U.S. city and particularly strong relative to Tokyo's bid and, to a lesser extent, Madrid's bid, yes, there is something fishy. Furthermore, the fact that their process is secretive and not transparent is a serious problem. Given the shift in votes that occurred after the first round, one has to wonder what corrupt things were taking place. I will say it again...I am sick and tired of people around the world wanting the U.S. to finance them but not wanting to play ball when the U.S. wants something back in return.

I don't care if God petitioned for a U.S. city to get the Olympics. Other cities in other countries deserve to host the games.
The fact that Chicago wasn't chosen doesn't make the IOC crooked. The meetings have been secret for years. It isn't a slam against Chicago. Also, leaders of other countries may be present but I didn't see or hear of any of them or of any of their wives making presentations to the committee.

I am a Chicagoan and let me tell you I am so sad that we lost the bid. I was down at Daley Plaza waiting to hear the results. When it was time to announce the first city eliminated everyone hushed down to hear the name of the losing city. When they said Chicago there was this gasp of disbelief, we were all shocked. People just turned to look at eachother trying to process what had just happened. I was heartbroken. :guilty: If we would have won, the speed cycling arena would have been THREE blocks from my home. One of my dreams is to be present at an Olympic opening ceremony, it would have been nice to have done it at home, Sweet Home CHICAGO!
Congratulations to Rio, wish them the very best.

Hosted more times than any one country. Seems to me you have received something in return for your perception that everyone wants the US to finance them.

Your whine is getting a little old.
