So it's M&Ms on top and not Oreos, is it? On that we agree.
I think I will pass on the 2016 Marathon weekend at Disney. Doing it a second year in a row would be pushing it with DW. Also, DD's high school band takes a trip every spring ($$$$$) and it might be time for WDW to come up in the rotation as the destination for 2016. They marched at Universal 2013 and at Magic Kingdom in 2011 (memory is foggy) so I'm hoping 2016 still has a Fort trip for us if we can justify it by going to watch the band march.
However, I was very intrigued by your mention in another thread about the Celebration races that took place last weekend (2nd Annual, it was).
I could see that race being a possibility. As it says, its a whole lot cheaper and less crowded (maybe I could sleep in a little longer on race morning). And it falls at the perfect time. That last week of January is among the lowest crowd times of the year (not counting the fall when MK has the Halloween and Christmas separate ticket events - the regular attendance calendars show it low because it closes early for the separate ticket events. I want a full day/night).
In fact, this past Wednesday January 28 was a "1" on the crowd calendar from easywdw. Josh at easywdw wrote an article about expectations in a FP+ world for times like Jan 28:
http://www.easywdw.com/uncategorized/january-28-walt-disney-world-wait-times-and-the-reality-of-the-lowest-crowds-of-the-year/#more-15115 We had posters recently post pictures from past years during this week showing low crowds. We can't go back in time but this time of the year intrigues me.
I would encourage others to consider doing a runDisney event like the Marathon weekend. They have the 5k on Thursday, 10k on Friday, Half on Saturday, and Whole on Sunday. If it's on your bucket list, it takes some planning. The race is the same time every year (an early weekend in January after the New Years time) and this past year registration for the races opened in April. You MUST be vigilant and register as soon as it opens because some races filled up within 24 hours after opening up and within days they were all filled (except for the Challenges).
So get that Fort reservation made (one night deposit fully refundable), wait and get the race registration made the day (hour) it opens, and then plan your training.
So John, I will pass on Marathon Weekend 2016, but I might participate in Celebration's
Virtual race next year and strongly consider coming in to do it in person in the future.
Good luck to you, man. And for heaven's sake - take it easy in February.
