2016 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival: September 14 - November 14, 2016

We're doing our first F&W this year (yay!) and have the tequila lunch booked, but we're wondering if we should book more special events or just enjoy all the different food. We were looking at the Rockin' Burger Block Party since we're slightly burger obsessed, but we haven't been reading the most glowing reviews. Any thoughts on what we should do?

Thanks!

We are doing our first F&W too this year and I'm so excited!
I was thinking the same as you, not really sure what to do but I did end up booking a couple things, a mix it make it celebrate it seminar and a food and wine pairing and we plan on going to one of the concerts. Other than that I think we will just enjoy the booths. We will be there for four days and aren't going to any other parks. I also have dinner ADRs booked but not sure if I will keep them.
I think it would be fun to do at least one thing besides the booths while you are there.

Somewhat surprised at Ireland as well - no cider and only one beer.(seems like quiet a few are only one beer)

Ireland is a big disappointment to me each year. (Except for the chocolate pudding!) I really wish they would offer Magners Cider (the original Apple one). That is crazy Irish! I know more Irish people who drink that then Guinness! Plus it is so much better than Strongbow! I just wish they'd offer something more Irish than the Guinness and Harp at R&C. And those chai tea things are not Irish at all. I need to find time to get over to Raglan Rd and get a Magners there.

This might not be be the place to ask this, but I rarely post and just not sure.

I have the behind the scenes Trader Sam's booked for Oct 12th. One couple changed their flights and will not be able to attend. I know there have to be people that would like to attend. Should I try to call and cancel or try to post somewhere...and if so...where?

Typically prepaid reservations for the F&W events are nonrefundable. If the airline changed the flight time, they might give you a refund, not sure.

@mac3mpc I am not sure what date you were looking for, but it seems they will be an opening for trader Sam's. Read the last posts.

I would find a diser that wants it before trying to see if they will cancel it and refund it. Otherwise you can always link up with the disers and arrange something I am sure if you link through MDE you could re assigned the names.

Kinda what I'm thinking...I will be there with DH and another couple for the Trader Sam event. Next day...8 other couples join us. We always do some kind of private "after park closing" event in addition to our F&W events. Looking forward to Disney Grown up trip :)

I agree with the other posters. Booths are a great way to get introduced to the event. We have been doing F&W for many years and were getting bored with the booths; many of them bring back the same stuff year after year (NZ needs to bring back the Rocket Pesto lamb chop!). We were happy to see so many event choices added, which is what we do mostly now.

So, yes, as a newbie I recommend spending lots of time exploring the options at the booths. Then, once you become hooked on the event and start making return visits each year, start exploring the special events. Unless there is something in particular that really grabs your interest. Just remember, take your time, and if you don't love an item, or at lease really like it, you don't have to finish it! And share. We typically get one item (food or drink) to share between two people. If we really like it, we can go back for more. But sharing saves money and stomach space. :teeth: :thumbsup2

100% agree on the sharing. I go solo but go to F&G with my grown son so we share. What a difference it makes, we can try so many more things. Last year it took all I could do to get at least one thing from every booth during a 4 day stay. I had to cheat on some of the booths and make that one thing something to drink but I'll admit there were other booths I went back and got other things from. The good thing about being there multiple days is the ability to do that and not get bored.

I was able to cancel an event last year. I called and explained the situation. They knew they would be able to fill my spot.

My husband and I shared last year and it worked out well for us too. Last year was my first year and I'll be back this year with my best friend. (Poor hubby will be home with the kids!) Last year we just did the booths. This year we're dedicating a little more time to the festival and incorporating the Parisian breakfast. If I went back with my husband I might do some different events or some of the tastings. I am pretty happy though to explore the booths. Try some favorites and some new things. But I still feel like this trip my main focus will be the booths. Maybe next trip I'll do something different. That's what I love is that there are more new things to try each visit!

If you want to coordinate with another Disboard member, there is an October cancellation thread where you can post the event and see if anyone is interested in your reservation. Typically you let the interested party know what day/time you are going to cancel so they can grab the reservation immediately after you cancel it.

As the day goes on, you can see the effects of the wine!! If doing multiple seminars in a day, you will definitely see a difference in her as the day progresses! :rotfl:

Over the 14 or 15 years (I've lost count!) I've been attending these seminars, I've gotten used to her and she really doesn't detract from my experience anymore!!!
Yeah - I've always been surprised that they let her drink so much. They are pretty strict on that..I know the lead singer for one of the F&W bands was spoken to just for having a few beers with dinner - he was told he was a Disney employee for the night - they wont be back.

I think it is more of a problem when there is a "celebrity chef"..The chefs fans are there to see the chef not the hostess and she inserts herself a bit too much in their opinion. If it was the sales rep from Diageo I think people would be less bothered by her.

I'd say most of the celebrity chefs can deal with her...but I do hope she is not at the event with Morimoto - he seems a bit reserved and she might be a problem.

And I may have found where all of the beers have gone. Block & Hans lists 5 different beers on their current menu. Looking at last year's menu, Block & Hans only showed wines and champagnes. Lets hope their menu doesn't change for the F&W.

Last year, Ireland probably had the biggest overpriced item, the Kerrygold Irish Cream liqueur. For $8.00, they served it in a thimble sized cup.

Block & Hans - That is a good tip - and it looks like they have bottles not just the sample sizes - I usually just walk right by that place.

Ireland is always a big disappointment - the Kerrygold is a ripoff - the Guinness was always terrible (I see that it is gone) and the fisherman's stew has worn out its welcome. I'd like top see them do something a bit more interesting to say the least...but the same could be said for most of the booths. I skipped F&W last year because it is just the same thing year after year for the most part...they should really change at least one item at every booth every year.

We've never done an Eat to the Beat reservation before. Just reserved Teppan Edo for dinner to see Toad the Wet Sprocket on Oct. 22nd. Are the restaurant menus and pricing the same as normal for Eat to the Beat?

Hi. Is there an event date at this time for Chef Morimoto ?? Thanks, Joan
