Consider looking at and buying private tours in all of the ports, Google achilkoot charters, and coastal copters, and Seawing aviation.

Daylight is long but little effect, you can view a lot morning night from your verandah it's not just the normal hours.

Weather we were blessed with great weather your going early so be prepared for everything rain fog, cold etc.

We went in late May for our Alaska cruise in 2014. We were fortunate with very good weather. Layering is the key. Be prepared to keep warm and for wetness. You just never know how the weather is going to be. You have long days, but it will get dark around 11:00 PM.

It is early in the season so you won't see many (if any at all) bears since the salmon aren't running yet. However, it is prime whale watching time. We did private tours in all but Ketchikan. My trip report below can give you an idea of how Alaska will be at the end of May.

I am praying for no rain, I'll take the chilly weather, but, I want pictures and I am hoping
it doesn't rain and I have to keep my camera under my jacket..pixiedust:

I wish for no rain as well, but I am bringing my waterproof camera. I am out there taking pictures rain or shine!

We went and had a week of sun hot temps and felt slightly 'cheated' that it was so good and not Alaska weather until we did the White Pass and had fog.

Days will be very long. Coming from most of the US, you won't believe how late it's light out, or how early it comes.

Some thoughts...
  • On May 23... the sun goes down in Vancouver at 9pm
  • Sunset in Juneau will be 9:40pm. Sunrise is 4am
  • weather in Alaska is typically dry in May, weather in Vancouver is typically wet. Here's this months forecast.

  • Biggest tip... budget extra days in Vancouver pre- and post-cruise! It's a bonus port! Vancouver is not much more different than American cities and it's bigger than all the Alaskan ports combined!
