2015 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend ** Check-In ** May 7-10, 2015

How does the shoe stuff work? Not the queue part, I mean, but is there a choice of widths? What happens if you don't know your size in that specific shoe? :)
When you do the virtual queue, you select a size and that one shoe is held for you. However you get to try it on when you get there and with this being the first event after the release, there should be good availability so you can change your size and buy up to 6 pairs of whichever shoes you choose. Only one style and size is held for you at sign up.

When and how do we do the virtual queue?? I've never dealt with the shoe stuff before.

Thanks! :D :thumbsup2

For the logo, you might want to go with another sticker since painting over them can be a challenge. For the felt, I'd say to start with a big brush and then a very fine one for touch ups, but it would depend on the design. I can't freehand to save my life, so I rely on stencils, even if I have to make them myself.

Good idea w/ the stencils! I'll try that; I have so many ideas I'll play 1st and see which works best.

How long after the start does the back corral get going?

There is about 5 min b/w each corral and sometimes they send A & B out together sometimes not.

New balance released a picture on their Instagram page of the new Tinker Bell shoes: Fresh Foam Tinker Bell Boracay

I love them! Now to see if they fit and feel right on my feet. When it comes to running stuff, the brighter/more neon it is and thumbs holes; I can't resist. :rotfl:

Not sure once you get there, since I've never done the NB shoes before, but what might help is if you go to runningwarehouse.com. If you look up the shoe, they have the model on the link, you can actually put in the shoe model and size that you're in now and recommend the correct size. I put in the Asics GT2000s in a size 9.5 and they recommended a 10 in the NB model.

When and how do we do the visual queue?? I've never dealt with the shoe stuff before.

I think we just sign up at 6am with our bib # and then they email or text you back w/ a group or appointment time and you can show up then. I sent them an email b/c I don't get to the expo until 5:30 earliest on Thur so I'm hoping I can just show up, but asked them if they have appointments that far out in the day.

I have a request for anyone going to the Expo Thursday. We will not be arriving until midday Friday and by then I fear what I'm looking for at the Official Merchandise booth will be sold out.

So I will gladly pay someone to pick up a few items and meet me in DTD or at the Disneyland Hotel Friday.
At Dopey in January I bought all the Disney Medal Pins. They look like miniature versions of the finishers medals. I'm wanting the 10K, 1/2, Pixie Dust Challenge, and Coast to Coast pins. 4 pins. Should be somewhere between $15-$20 each. I can paypal instant transfer half the cost up front, and then give you cash when we meet up.

Example of the Pins I'm talking about. The ones with the 'ribbons'.

PM me if you can help. Thank you.

I did the virtual queue at Princess a few months back. If you go on Thursday only runners with bib numbers can sign up. Sign up starts at 6am not sure if it is EDT or PDT for this race, but it was EST for princess. You put in either a phone number or email and they respond with a tentative time, I was flying in that day so I wasn't getting to the expo until 2pm but I heard at WDW marathon the slots were gone by 6:40am so I got on at 6:20 and got a slot of 9 am, not going to work. So I waited another 20 min, used my email instead of cell since you can't sign up twice with the same thing, got 10:30.... Still didn't work. So I waited an hour and signed up with my husbands cell, noon.... Since you can't see what time you are getting beforehand, it becomes a challenge. So another hour later I got 2pm with my husbands email. So yup 3 appointments went by without me being there, finally hit the last one. So I hope at some point they fix this part of the system. I got the feeling however that if you had an appointment and were late, it wasn't a big problem.

Thanks! With the talk about the heat, I was wondering how long it might be after 5:30 that I will start. I should hopefully finish around 3 hours, so I guess that would be maybe by 9:00 for G. I'm going to try and get myself as far to the front of G as I can.

I am running a 5K tomorrow. My first race since my last XC race 21.5 years ago in HS! I had 3 miles on the schedule for my last Saturday run, and it's the first race in a local race series that I'm doing so I figured why not. :D I'm very slow (as evidenced by my hope to finish in 3 hours ;)) so there is not really any chance of overdoing it with a race the weekend before the big day. :D

Where do we find the virtual queue link or do we show up at 6:00 am at the expo? Completely clueless here.

I might actually give a look at those, since they're a lower drop shoe. It depends on if I can get a time or not since I'll probably be in the air when sign-up opens. Maybe I'll have to invest in in-flight wifi after all.

For those who are interested in the base shoe, here's Runner's World review.

I'll probably be either on the bus to the airport or at the airport. :) Our flight leaves Boston at 11:15. I kinda want a pair, but I feel like I would probably never actually run in them because I wouldn't want to get them dirty? :) And then where else would I wear neon green and yellow shoes. Other than maybe to walk around at Disney!

I've been having a Shoe Crisis lately, trying to find a shoe I love. Checking out these new Fresh Foam shoes (does anyone else hate the names and the fact that they plaster the words "Fresh Foam" on the shoe as much as me?) has been on my radar. I ran in some NB's for a while (1080 v3's), but I didn't love-love them, and switched to some Asics GEL Nimbus 15's for most of my Tink training. But the Nimbus 15's were slightly too small and I couldn't take the toe crunching anymore and got a pair of 17's in what should have been a better size, but they are weirdly too big and yet too small. My foot slides around in them, but they also feel too tight width wise and over the top of my foot under the lacing, even though I did get wide (I need to get a D width in most all women's shoes). I got 3 blisters on my last long run a couple weeks ago on my first run in them I think because my foot was sliding... the first blisters I have gotten in the entire training cycle!

For a short time in March, I was trying out a pair of Altra Olympus but I didn't do too much in them because of the drastic drop change (from ~12mm in the Asics to zero) and I started having some foot pain near the ball of my foot that could have been entirely unrelated to the shoe, but I stopped using them immediately, not wanting to risk anything for Tink. I might go back to trying to ease into those once Tink is done. I LOVED the fit of them. My foot is shaped like an Altra shoe. I really had wanted to try out a pair of the Torins or the Paradigms, but I tried to experiment with these right when they were doing a model switchover, so there was not much size availability in either one and these Olympus were on super sale since they were also having a model switch.

I am committed to these Nimbus 17's though for Tink, as there's no time now to switch anything out now. I'm going to try thicker socks with looser lacing at my 5K tomorrow and see how that goes.

No need to show up at 6am!
http://www.nbvirtualqueue.com
The site will become active at 6am Thursday and allow you to sign up for Thursday, again, you won't know your time until you get a response back. You have to sign up each day at 6am, so if you are going on Friday, you would sign up at 6am Friday. When your time slot comes up, you will receive another text/email telling you to go to the NB booth. I have heard some people having issues and not getting the email/text telling them to come to the booth.

Question about the pink Coast to Coast - I did the Glass Slipper in February and hopefully will make it through Pixie Dust. I'm wondering how they do the Coast to Coast medals. When do they hand them out and is there a special registration or something to do to verify the Princess was completed? (I'm doing Disneyland in September and Wine & Dine in November so if I can stay on my feet to finish, I'll have two on each coast this year!)

After you pickup your bib, you'll take 2 pics ~ 1 for PDC and 1 C2C. Also, when you get your bib, they'll give you a wrist band for the C2C challenge (they did that last year even w/ the pic). When you finish the 1/2, after that medal, you'll go through a section for the PDC medal and then for the C2C and they'll check the pic to make sure they match and you're good to go!

Congrats on the 2! I did that last year, and I think it's my fave combo of all the Disney medals.

Thanks so much! I was afraid I was supposed to have done something already and was going to be quite distressed if I had missed it. If I'm doing all of this, the medal has to be there at the end! I'm coming from NC by myself because I couldn't resist the chance to do GSC and PDC both this year. Hoping the crowd will provide the energy since there won't be friends or family with me.

gosh - so much to catch up on! we leave on Sunday and I've already started packing - can't wait for the expo on Thursday! Can't wait for my first half marathon and PDC finish!

My flight leaves National Airport at ummm...I should know that, right? Early. Like 6am. At least you'll be able to register without paying something stupid for inflight wifi! I would probably run in them if they work for me. But no, if they don't work for running, then I wouldn't buy them because I don't need more shoes to walk around in.

I've had some running shoe issues, too. Long, long, ago I was wearing stability shoes but still struggling with knee pain and shin splints. Eventually, I went minimalist with Vibram five fingers and after a rough transition period, all of my knee and shin issues disappeared. When I started running distances over 10 miles regularly, I needed a little more cushion and settled on Nike Free 3.0 and 5.0. Then last year they changed construction methods or something and I blistered by mile 8 in a marathon and had to stop at mile 15 to put bandaids on the arch of my foot. A month or two ago I switched to Mizuno Sayonaras after a running store guy recommended them and they had felt pretty good in a mile test run...sadly anything over three miles and my shin and knee issues come back with a vengeance. So...back to the Nikes with band-aids/moleskin from the start. I just bought a set of Skechers GoRuns, which have good reviews and are designed by the guy who designed the Frees, so hopefully that will help.

I hope you resolve your shoe issues soon!

I hope yours are too! :)

It is certainly not a cheap thing to try and figure out! :D

Has anyone thought about wearing maybe a certain coloured bracelet or something during our race to identify each other ? To say a friendly Hello or some words of encouragement. And too see someone to jump for enjoy with at the finish! Was watching YouTube video recaps from last year!
Getting myself inspired!
