2015 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend ** Check-In ** May 7-10, 2015

Has anyone thought about wearing maybe a certain coloured bracelet or something during our race to identify each other ? To say a friendly Hello or some words of encouragement. And too see someone to jump for enjoy with at the finish! Was watching YouTube video recaps from last year!
Getting myself inspired!

What a great idea!! Last year a bunch of runners that I saw in line did that and I thought it was a great idea. Lets make it happen. Any color or suggestions ? If we have a plan I can hit up Michaels to see if I can pick up some extra and have them available at the meet. I thought they used ribbon last year ---but I'm not sure. What do you think??

I need some shoe opinions!

I mentioned a few posts back that I'd replaced my older pair of shoes with a newer model because the older ones are slightly too small and the ends of my toes feel bruised afterwards. I got some new ones in a larger size, and I got my first blisters of the training cycle after wearing them. I thought it was the socks because the new shoes feel a little too big now, so yesterday I did a 5K in thicker socks. I thought it had helped but then I noticed today after I got out of the shower that all 3 spots I got blisters in before had a layer of skin to remove. I don't think it was from the old blisters because those blisters were from 2 weeks ago. Now I'm worried that these were new blisters that just didn't have a long enough to turn into blisters because my race was only 5K and that when I run the half next weekend, I'll end up with blisters again.

Would you keep wearing the new ones and get some moleskin for the areas that seem like they are hotspots? Or go back to the old shoes that give you bruised feeling toes, but you know you did a lot of training miles on them and that's (probably) the worst that is going to happen in them?

It sounds like you need expert advice. Is there someone at your running shoe store you could talk too. I am lucky the store I deal with they have fitting awards and if the shoes don't work they put you in another shoe at no cost until they find one that works for you. Only place I know that you can take the shoes outside and run on your terrain. Sorry to hear about your shoe troubles. I know bruised black toe nails are no fun I have had my fair share of them. I am lucky I have found shoes that work for me.

I won't have time to go anywhere before I leave in a couple days. :( I guess I'll bring both pairs with me and just make a decision on Sunday which one sounds like the lesser of two evils. :)

Anyone else interested in what kelly 1 suggested about wearing a color bracelet or ribbon (something like that) of a particular color so we can identify each other throughout the weekend ?? I think it's a great idea and when we notice someone wearing it we know it's one of "us".
If there is interest someone please suggest a color....I think green maybe a little popular this weekend. Like to hear what you Tinks think.

Last year I was in a similar situation. I order a new pair of runners about a month before Tink last year. My runners went through a update even though they were the same Mizuno Prophecy They did feel like my old ones. They put my one foot to sleep, I tried every kind of lacing technic nothing worked. I had brought my old ones with many miles on them just it case. When I was at the expo I did the mistake of buying a new pair of shoes ASICS Kenzie they felt really good. In the morning I got dressed for my half and looked at the 3 pairs of shoes the little voice in my head said go with what you know. I laced up my old ones. To make a long story short I complained so much about the new changes to the Prophecy's the store I go to took them to the Mizuno Rep and they sent me a new pair the latest update. These are fine now have done all my training in them. The ASICS I bought I gave away they were not right for me bad decision on my part. When I got on pavement I sounded like a duck running a slapping noise and not very comfortable. I should know better just wasted money.

Agree Green wouldn't be a great colour for this weekend. Sorry for the short notice on this one but I heard it on YouTube recaps thought what a great idea.

I have a request for anyone going to the Expo Thursday. We will not be arriving until midday Friday and by then I fear what I'm looking for at the Official Merchandise booth will be sold out.

So I will gladly pay someone to pick up a few items and meet me in DTD or at the Disneyland Hotel Friday.
At Dopey in January I bought all the Disney Medal Pins. They look like miniature versions of the finishers medals. I'm wanting the 10K, 1/2 Marathon, & Pixie Dust Challenge pins. 3 pins. Should be somewhere between $15-$20 each. I can paypal instant transfer half the cost up front, and then give you cash when we meet up.

Example of the Pins I'm talking about. The ones with the 'ribbons'.

PM me if you can help. Thank you.
Anyone?

Sorry, Friday afternoon for me too. I know at Princess this year when I got to the expo Friday afternoon, they had all the pins left, that is about the only thing, but they had a lot of pins. I am hoping this is the same as well since that is what I am after!

I am sorry, I am not able to help either.

I do have a question about the family meet area at the finish line. We are staying at a hotel on Harbor Blvd. My DD would like to meet me at the end. She is taking the hotel shuttle to DLR and walking through DTD. How does she get to the family meet area from DTD? I just need to walk her through this so she can do it on her own on Sunday. TIA

If you can stomach it, go with your old ones. If you know that you're going to feel like chopping your toes off by Mile 9 and run the risk of not finishing, then go with your new ones. It sounds like the new shoes haven't been fully broken in yet (which can take weeks), and wearing thicker socks won't do anything (unfortunately). There are special blister prevention pads that you can buy at any old drug store, and those are worth every penny in my opinion (they're honestly miracle workers in preventing blisters).

I've never had a problem getting pins for any of my races at the Disneyland Tink Expo, and last year I didn't show up until Saturday afternoon. I think you'll be fine in getting the pins you want, since they should still have enough by the time you get there (just check by the cash registers).

It's continuing to look like cooler weather for the weekend until after all races are over, including a nice layer of fog on Saturday morning for the 10k.

For me, it depends. Aside from the blisters, are the new ones better on your feet than the old ones? I'm running in my older shoes (Nike Free 5.0) with moleskin instead of the Mizuno Sayonaras, because the short term blister potential is preferable to the longer term knee and shin pain I get from the Mizunos.

For our group at the Shamrock Half, we went with orange instead of green to stand out. Red might work, too.

It's pretty easy to get into the family greeting area from DTD, but honestly, it's even easier to pick a DTD meeting point. She can find a spot along the route to see you towards the end, then maybe meet up at Rainforest Cafe or the movie theater. It will all be crowded, but then you don't have to search for each other.

She is wanting to see me at the Finish so I was thinking of a way she could meet up at the family meet area afterwards. We are going to breakfast on our way back to the hotel. I am thinking she could go through the GCH and follow directions?

Unless you have a Platinum Chear Package, it's really hard to see at the finish. My family picked spots just beyond the fenced off area and then walked towards the runner's exit. I think the meet-up area is just beyond the runner's exit chute, so after she sees you finish, she could walk down past the line to the meet-up area. Where is the shuttle dropping her off? And is she sure it's going to be following that route based on the race course?

Thanks for asking that! I completely forgot about the road closures. We are staying at the Candy Cane Inn and they have a shuttle and they drop off at the normal hotel/ART dropoff on Harbor. I was going to have her meet me at the family meeting place at 9:30am - I'm a wogger. Maybe we need to rethink this or at the least ask at the front desk. I don't think I want her walking alone to the parks along Harbor otherwise she could walk it.

Second what people mentioned about the moleskin. And glide! Lots of glide, it really does help. Another thought might be, if they really are old shoes and the mileage is about to go out, maybe cut a hole or 2 in the toe box? I've seen people do that w/ bunions on the inside of the shoe or on the outside where their pinky toes are; it gives you feet a little more area to spread out. That might help a little bit.

I'm pretty excited for the weather cool off. I've been watching it all weekend. Even when it's mid 70s it feels so much hotter out in the parks on the black top. Maybe not so much for the race but for after in the park. I'm always happier to run in cooler morning temps as well!

I'm sure I can ask this at the Expo but we are staying at the DLH. Where is a free spot towards the end of the race that my husband and kids can line up to watch the race? Did I need to buy them all a cheer package or can they easily find somewhere within the last mile?

Update: I see we run by our hotel at the 6th so maybe thats their best bet and then meet me later after Ive finished in DTD? That's still kind of an early wake up for them though.
