2015 Make-the-Most-of-it March WISH challenge! All are welcome!

Hey all! Just a reminder I will vetaking Saturdays "off" from the QOTD OR MOTIVATION posts. And i am currently inflight to Atlanta for my mother/daughter trip, so I won't be around much to chat...but feel free to go back and answer any questions that you may have missed this week, or just chat amongst yourselves!

And as you can probably tell I'll be posting from my Ipad or phone until Wednesday, so typos will be abundant! So sorry! I'll try to pop on later tonight from the condo (assuming it has wifi!). ...........P

Have a great tip! And we promise that we won't laugh at your typos!!!

Down 2 this week to 215. Slow and steady wins the race.
Started my C25K training this week, they started us off with a 2 mile run/walk. With a big friggin' hill in the middle. Although I think the yoga-like stretching killed me at the end :p

Hey all! So sorry that I didn't make it on here yesterday to do a Super Sunday post! I hope you made your day super anyhow!

Welcome to .........

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY!!!!

Today, instead of giving you a bit of motivation that I like, I want you to share a motivational quote that speaks to you! Whether it is diet, exercise, or just LIFE related, share that quote.

Hi friends! DD and I are having great adventures here in Atlanta! Full day at the aquarium yesterday was great.... the only negative note was the fact that we missed a lovely sunny warm day being inside all day..... oh well.

We have another day at the aquarium scheduled today and DD is SCUBA diving with the whale sharks today!! I am hoping to at least get out of the building for lunch today though.

The condo we are borrowing is lovely in a high rise (we are on the 30th floor) with security and maid service.... I could get used to this kind of living! Coffee on the balcony as the sun rises... skyline views at night.

Gotta dash and get ready to head to the train! Have a wonderful day! I'll share pictures of these adventures when I get home!.........................P

One thing that I heard last week on the German The Biggest Loser really spoke to me: Losers have excuses, Winners have solutions.

That really spoke to me as I am really really good at finding excuses. But I have become better at finding solutions as well. That is one of the reasons why I love this group so much. This is a great place to vent and often someone comes up with an idea on how to work around something. I think we are all really good at helping each other to not let difficulties become excuses.

10 Day Suger Free Challenge!! March 11-20!!

I am posting this hoping to find more people who will join Pam and me with a 10 day challenge to stay away from everything sweet! See it as a "cleanse" or part of your lent effort or as a way to test your will power. For me the reason for doing this is to try to get rid of my cravings for something sweet and also to prove myself that I can do it and therefor get mental strength from it.

The rules are: No sugar or sugar substitute in any way (whether with or without calories, i.e. no sweeteners, no honey, no maple syrup etc.) on its own or added to the food you are eating. Yes, that will mean that we need to read labels to detect those hidden sugars as well! Also no food that is natuarally very high in sugar (like dried fruit or high carb fresh fruit like bananas, tangerines, clementines, cherries, grapes, pomegranates, figs, and mango).

Ultimately it is up to every participant to set their own rules. For example I will not limit myself with regard to my weekly Monday lunch with my colleagues. It might well be that there is a pinch of sugar in the sauce of my food that I will have for that lunch. I just have no way fo knowing. But for that one meal, I am fine with it.

So, anyone interested in joining us?? I think the more of us are going for it, the better we will be able to support each other!

Good Tuesday morning everyone! Today is TRACK-IT TUESDAY!! How are you doing this month with tracking your food and exercise? Could you do better?

Share your tracking successes and struggles with us. Offer suggestions to others if you've discovered a new easy way to track. Ask questions if you can't seem to figure it out or stick with it. Let's try to get a conversation going!.....P

You and I are on a very similar path, lol. I'm hovering at about 215 and just started my C25K training last week. Mine is time structured, not distance, but it ended up being about 2 miles anyways. I've been mostly on the treadmill, though. Was finally able to run outside on Monday night, thanks to the glorious weather! :) Are you using an app, or have you found a group to run with?

Sounds like you are having a fabulous time! How awesome that you and your DD could get away. :)

I'm usually pretty good with tracking, but there are days, esp when someone else is making the food, that I kind of give up. I don't know what they put in it, so I don't even try, since nutrition info can vary wildly. Any suggestions on that?

I do really like using My Fitness pal, though sometimes the fitness tracking is off when it syncs with apps that don't calculate per your weight. The Endomondo app seems to be pretty good, if I'm running outside. :)

So, after I posted about starting the no sugar challenge on Wednesday, I realised that I was setting myself up for failure: On Friday 3/20 I am visiting my sister. We both have the day off to do lovely sister things together and one of the things that she can't do with her husband is eating sweet things. He was diagnosed with too high blood sugar last summer and took that very serious. He changed his diet completely (with my sister's help, she is the cook in their house) and managed to loose about 30 pounds in a few months. He is now no longer overweight, but still has to watch his carbs. He has always had a sweet tooth and really misses cakes and such. So does my sister because obviously that is something that she does not eat in his company. Why go and order a muffin and have your poor hubby watch you eat it? So, I promised her that we would go out for cake on that Friday.

But, in my new found mantra of excuses being for losers, winners have solutions, I found a solution: I just started the no sugar challege yesterday! So, I am already on day 2 without sugar!

Yesterday evening I was having a hard time, I just could have snacked all evening. I think it was a combination of too little sleep and TOM approaching (I have noticed that in the past). But, I managed to eat fairly healthy stuff, no candy. So, I count that as an improvement. Of course a carrot would have been better than the cheese, but the cheese is so much better than a chocolate bar. I tracked it all. Not nice. I have now no weekly extra points left... But I also already have 45 activity points. Monday was a great day, I had over 25.000 steps!

I know what you mean. But I think if you just guess something and track it, it is better than not tracking it at all. It still will give you some kind of picture on how your day went. But if you don't track at all, you lose that. You might be off 100 calories by tracking guesses, but it is better than not tracking at all.

Howdy! Welcome to a BELATED WOOHOO Wednesday! My home internet has been down since I got up this morning, but the repairman came it it seems to be back on track.

WooHoo-Wednesday1.png

WOOHOOO!!! Think about what you want to do to have a WOOHOO in your life today? Small victories, large victories, NSVs.... let's celebrate them, any and all!!

So had my physical yesterday, officially down 20 lbs, and cut my triglycerides by 60% since Dec 15th!
Doctor says if I keep this up I'll be off my blood pressure meds this time next year!

That certainly qualifies as a Woohoo Wednesday!! Well done!!

---

My woohoo Wednesday? Maybe that I had a totally lousy day, but only ate 4 points over my daily points (had to take them out of the activity points), got 12.000 steps in and did not eat anything with sugar! Not doing anything bad on a day like yesterday was woohoo enough for me!

So far I am on day 3 with the no sugar challenge. I seem to be doing good. I still get that craving for sweets, but it seems to get less. So, hopefully I will be able to stick with it for the full 10 days!

For this week I'd like you to give a SHOUT OUT to at least two PEOPLE that you are thankful to have along on your weight loss/healthy life journey! Maybe a trainer, maybe a healthcare provider, maybe a friend who motivates you, maybe a gym buddy???

That is some terrific progress on the scale! And congrats on starting the C25K!!

AMEN to that!!

HEY..... I just wanted you to know that I DIDN'T forget about this and I did started with a bang yesterday morning! I did really well all day, but then forgot in the evening until I was done with my cup of my special hot beverage (kind of a sugar-free cappuccino type thing). I don't know why my brain didn't go to the right place with regards to that.... I was having popcorn instead of a sweet treat because of the sugar challenge, but then had a "duh" moment! Other than that I've done really well. It helps that DD gave up desserts for Lent so we have't been indulging in any sweets, even during our long weekend away. That being said, I will be away all weekend (Fri/Sat at a robotics competition in Maine, Sunday on the road to take DD back to school), so things are only going to get harder! But I'm definitely going to make a full effort to stick with the sugar-free challenge!

Glad you got the weather to cooperate!!

Sounds like you are having a fabulous time! How awesome that you and your DD could get away. :)

We did have a great time.... but it went by too fast!!

I'm usually pretty good with tracking, but there are days, esp when someone else is making the food, that I kind of give up. I don't know what they put in it, so I don't even try, since nutrition info can vary wildly. Any suggestions on that?

I'm sure there is something like this out there for other folks, but Weight Watchers has a thing on their website called Recipe Builder..... you put in the recipe and it tells you the PPV per serving. Super helpful tool!

GREAT JOB with the cheese instead of chocolate..... it added PROTEIN to your muscles instead of sugar to your belly! Could you just enjoy a cup of tea while your sister has the cake? Maybe share a piece of cake and let her have the majority of it? Sounds like you will find the perfect solution! DD and I usually eat lots of treats during our Mother/Daughter trips, but with her trying to give up desserts, we definitely ate much LESS of that kind of stuff.... but we still enjoyed some indulgences like burgers and pizza....two things I rarely eat.

True, true!

I notice that even just one or two days of eating sweets/carbs sets me up for a lot of cravings.... so on day 3 of no sugar you should start to see those cravings diminish, but be warned that even one splurge can set them up again!

Morning all! I promise to update the weight loss totals today. I honestly would never have offered to host during such a busy month, but I know you will all be forgiving since I stepped in to fill a void on the hostessing schedule. Was scheduled to work today but called in sick (PLEASE FORGIVE ME!).... there is just too much to do around here! Yesterday was a day of laundry, laundry, laundry, and oh.... laundry! Plus I had to fix the costume that DS wears for the robotics competition. He is bigger than the person that it was originally purchased for and kept ripping through the velcro AND the hooks I sewed in.... plus the costume is old and showing its age. Then of course lunch together (DS had an early release day from school) and some time to visit with DD. Today I have to pack suitcases for me and DS. DH and DS leave for the robotics competition tonight and DD and I will drive up tomorrow morning and meet them. Normally I'd go along tonight, but DD has such little time here at home, I didn't want to spend too much of it away.

Off to make my SUGAR FREE breakfast (aka... egg white omelet!).....................P

Just wanted to say Enjoy your trip to Maine.. what city it the robotics competition in?

"GIVE THANKS THURSDAY!"

For this week I'd like you to give a SHOUT OUT to at least two PEOPLE that you are thankful to have along on your weight loss/healthy life journey! Maybe a trainer, maybe a healthcare provider, maybe a friend who motivates you, maybe a gym buddy???

My two people are:

My DH, who makes sure I have time to get to the gym, even if that means he has to do DD's bedtime solo after a long workday. :love2:

My BFF, who motivated me to start in the first place. She went from couch potato to running the Wine & Dine Half, and made me believe that I could run, too. Maybe even a half someday. :yay:

Just sitting here all blah. It's been super busy at work-had to work Sun-tue by myself due to a co-worker calling in sick. Monday I worked 10 hours with an hour lunch. Am just burned out even on my second day off. Picked up some hair dye at target last night- (half off and it got good reviews). Picked a golden blond even though my hair is a medium brown because I just want to cover the few greys I have--I've noticed more lately--then realized I have a massive stash of shampoo and conditioner I need to use up that's not for color treated hair and have a swim lesson tomorrow. I So Want to Do it Today but I can't! I've got a lot of projects to do today but 0 energy-- I mean none! I think I'll try one of those ginseng vials to just get up and get going. I really want to organize the rest of the bathroom stash that's gotten out of hand and go run a few errands before dinner. I'll work out after dinner and try to be back before 8. Have held on to my hard earned pound this week but don't think I'll do better.

I guess you guys are my motivational people--I've got no one else. Other than Dr. Wayne Dyer of course-

“The more you see yourself as what you’d like to become, and act as if what you want is already there, the more you’ll activate those dormant forces that will collaborate to transform your dream into your reality.” – Wayne Dyer

This is just something I looked up online right now but is so the essence of what he is about.

Well, managed to almost completely get through the bathroom--took 6 hours but got rid of a lot of stuff (I'm never taking another hotel shampoo, conditioner, lotion. I use the soaps lol. This was after 2 2-3 hour sessions in there the last week. By the time I ate dinner and did my errands I only had a few hours at the gym so i just did the elliptical, jacuzzi and about 10 minutes in the sauna. So--I know I don't have extra water weight today and I pulled a samer. Gonna go work out early because of swim lessons and maybe try to assemble the shelf I got for the kitchen later. It'll be nice to have something to put all my stuff on like the crockpot, foreman grill, etc. Free up some counter space. On the pus side--I have some pajamas I wear that are getting almost too loose to wear and I noticed I have a waist again!
