2014 MP Hopefuls!!!

I think anyone who goes through the process and has it end prematurely thinks "What could I have done differently?" The further you get, the more opportunities there are for second-guessing yourself.

I've applied 3 times. Didn't make it past R1 the first time. Made it to R2 the past 2 years. I try to answer my essay questions as if they are going to be posted on the MP website. I think writing is one of my strengths, so either it's my video that is lacking, or perhaps what I share in my essays is not unique enough??

All I can do is keep applying. Next year I'll try to be more energetic in my video (I am a very laid-back person normally), and I'll try to make my essays stand out more. It's all I can do.

I know it's frustrating not to know what isn't "doing it" for each of us. I, too, would like to know if my submissions are looked at a second time, or if they're automatically rejected!

On the flip side, though, if the judges gave indicators of what they're "looking for" each year, or told us what we did "wrong", then they wouldn't get the truest submissions for the panel. More than anything, I think they want to see the best representations of each person's individual personality/writing style/knowledge, and then go from there. If everyone is trying to put themselves into the proverbial square hole, then I don't think that serves the panel well, either.

We'll just try, try again!

Just wanted to check in. Hope everyone has a good Monday
I always thought they were electric eels based on the scene in Philharmagic

Good Morning!

Hmmm. What are the restrictions on the video?

Just the length, file type and file size restrictions.

That's the problem of not knowing.... IF one were to make it to rd 2 again, do you do the same kind of thing with video/essays or something different? If you knew you were close one would tend to think doing something Similar would be a good idea or if you were an immediate "no!" You could do something completely different. It's so hard not to know.

since we'll never know, it comes down to being happy with what you wrote and submitted. When all is said and done, we have to be able to look ourselves in the mirror and be satisfied that we did our best. (That's certainly easy to SAY...)

I always thought that Flotsam and Jetsam were eels. DH, on the other hand always thought them to be barracudas. Who do you think is right? Now, keep in mind that if you agree with him, a part of my childhood will feel wrong. But don't let that skew your opinion;)

Definitely eels. If you want a barracuda, you have to go to Finding Nemo. I believe that is a barracuda in the opening scene.

I know. And I'll try so hard to not go back and read the posts of this year's panelists (and essays or videos if they shared) and start comparing myself to them.

definitely eels. if they are morays then I don't think they can be electric. Perhaps they took some liberties in Philharmagic? :confused3

I had said to my BFF and dh when I submitted my rd2 stuff that I did not feel I could've done any better, I cannot change who I am and they will either like me or not. It was easier to say when I thought I had a chance than it is to believe right now after being rejected :)

I'm finally starting to feel a bit better about it. My sis and I signed up for the princess half over the wknd so I can get another race under my belt before next year's application.... Not that I think the number of races will affect my chances but it can't hurt. Plus my sis and I only see each other a few times a year so it's great girl time.

DW's a teacher, so this is our annual dilemma. Of the choices you listed, I would lean toward the BC in Feb/March with the Fantasy in the fall. Our next cruise will hopefully be 2014, and I don't want to do less than 5 nights.

I hope it's lucky #7 for you!! We'll never know how close we came to R3. Did it come down to a deliberation of some sort? or was it an immediate "no" and they moved on to others. We can drive ourselves crazy thinking about it.

After last year, I had a thought about recording this year's video while I was in WDW over the summer. If I end up back at WDW prior to the application for 2014, I'm definitely going to record one from the parks. The last 2 years the video has been a favorite parks memory. Worse case if they change the subject of the video is that I'd have to record it again.

That is an excellent idea! And I know just the place to do it! I want a quiet spot where there won't be any noise interference. And there are certain spots/times of day that are perfect for that!

I think I would do a couple versions/scenarios/questions just in case.

Half time is over.... Back to the Packers!!!

I know, I was thinking the other day they should have emailed everyone a "ranking" list, along with a comment about what they liked and didn't like. But, it would literally KILL me if I were like #1/2/3 on the list, just below those who were chosen.

I have always thought of them as eels too. Checked online and multiple sources refer to them as eels so I think we are right :)[/QUOTE]

I always thought they were electric eels, but they are moray eels, which I suppose are the same?
:thumbsup2

I always thought that they were eels. They look just like the moray eels at our aquarium, so I was convinced. Showed DH a picture of a baracuda, an eel, and Flotsam and Jetsam. I think he agrees with me, now.

I've never applied before. I honestly have no idea what the process is like. Can someone walk me through it? What is this video that everyone is talking about?

He everyone! We are on our way home from a very nice weekend trip. Lots of pixy dust was sprinkled on us this weekend!

We had no crowds for about 3 hours on Sat at MK. We got to ride the tea cups completely by ourselves and we got to stay on the Barnstormer (DD3's favorite ride) in the front row two times in a row. We could have stayed on longer, but I made the decision to move on.

At AK on Sun, while my DDs didn't get picked for the parade at FOTLK, the tumble monkeys and the leader of the singers spent a lot of time messing around with my girls.

We got to see the new Fantasyland and the whole family got picked for Storytime with Belle. By the way, the area is fabulous!!

And to top it off, yesterday at Epcot, my DD10 got sung to at Voices of Liberty and had to stand up and introduce herself to the crowd. She was absolutely bright red.

Unfortunately, we don't have another WDW trip planned for awhile, but we can start counting down to our Fantasy cruise now! Yay!

That sounds so magical.

I, too, have gone back over the previous thread and tried to find some common theme among the submissions that moved on to Round 3. The only thing I can see is that they were written in a very 'conversational' manner(not that some who didn't make Round 3 weren't that way).

I know this is very subjective but it's the only thing I can see.

Hi everyone, I'm finally feeling ready to join in again. I must admit I am finding it a little hard to see all the posts about the phone interviews on FB and Twitter but I know I need to get over it.

I have wondered so many times what I did wrong this time, my video was similar to last year's and I answered my essays in the same style as last year but didn't get chosen to move to R3 this time.

Anyway, time to look forward to 2014!

Does anyone still have the link to the videos and essays that were posted ?? I'd love to go back and reread them Don't you love that we can seamlessly go back and forth from Round 3 to Eels!!!

If you go to the spreadsheet that Mel created there is a link to a post that contains all the videos.

I totally missed the post about the new thread. I have been stalking the last one wondering where the heck everyone went. I thought you all abandoned me... :rotfl2:

Sounds like a fabulous trip, I would love to enjoy Fantasyland! FYI, Barnstormer is one of my hubbys favorites also. When is your cruise & what destination are you going, we're cruising this Summer.:goodvibes

Good morning! Just checking in. It's been a crazy week so far.
I have surgery this afternoon, and DS11 is home with pink eye!
UGH

3rd surgery this year, but this is the "easy" one. I will be up and about by the weekend. :thumbsup2

How is everyone doing with their Disney trip planning?
We have started to nail down our dates and airfare.
We are leaning towards WDW @ BC in April, and DCL Fantasy sometime in the Fall. I would also LOVE to do a few days at WDW for Christmas, but that is a long ways off, so we will see.

I know you are all still in the "what if" and "what did I do wrong" phase.
So I am just gonna say it : MOVE ON! :thumbsup2
You will feel better if you do.
I have moved past that phase, and I feel much better now. :)

I am having a bit of a hard time reading about all the R3's and their interviews this week,:sad1: so I am avoiding their thread and Twitter for the most part. But I still very much wish them well! They have all earned it. :cheer2:

I am just focusing on my trips coming up, and looking forward to starting the MP process all over again in September! ;)

I would LOVE it if we could organize a trip before then! Maybe after the New Year we can discuss it and pick dates? :cool1:
