Just wanted to drop in because I'm feeling a little bit more excited! I'm one of those people that is constantly counting down to the next big event. The latest was a trip to Cairns (Australia, where I live, but two states away in distance and a world away in climate and scenery) which I returned from just yesterday. That means I'm one step closer to my BCV countdown!

My next big event is PAX Australia, which is 187 days from now. Then 13 days later I fly (such a long, long way) to Boston. Two weeks after that, Universal for four days, and then...BCV. It's all so close now! Lol

Anyway, I check this thread everyday, and love reading all the questions and answers, the plans and the live updates. Thank you to everyone who posts. I'm sure I'm going to be super informed by the time I arrive :)

I think 8 is old enough. I think that was about the age I wasn't quite the hawk parent. I would tell him, this is where you get in the slide, this is where I will meet you. If you are lost, find a lifeguard, but look for me here first. If you want to go anywhere else, you need to come tell me. Rule breaker gets a time out of the pool. Never had issues with either of my kids. They know my rules and consequences.

I agree with the age and the parenting. Around 8 - kids should be well enough to manage themselves and know where a parent is close by.

Completely agree. My youngest DD was 8 on our last trip and after a couple of chaperoned trips down the slide with her to get her comfortable with its location, she was fine on her own. Like other posters, we set clear expectations and rules. No issues whatsoever. At that age they're given more freedom in school and at recess so I think it's a fair age to allow arms length independence if they prove to be responsible.

Will be staying at the YC in January for Marathon Weekend '15 and can't wait!! Was there 10 years ago and loved it. Question- I was recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease and need to eat gluten free. I know many places around WDW are very helpful with this. Does anyone know of any options within the resort that are gluten free? Thanks. :)

I'm not sure when we're going to tell him. My oldest thinks we should wait until we're getting on the plane to go there. Our flight leaves at 8:30, so we'd be getting up pretty early on a Sunday morning. Not sure he'd be thrilled or flip out a bit. I was thinking of having a scavenger hunt that weekend and the last clue would take him to our magic bands. We had a set from our last trip, so he'll definitely know where we're going. My only hope is he isn't mad that we're not going to the beach. I think Stormalong Bay will help with any disappointment, though.

I was going to wait until the morning of our flight too but am so glad I didn't. We told the kids about 4 days before and it was great to have them getting excited with me. :-). Love the scavenger hunt idea!

Hi everyone! Reporting live from the YC! :-). I love this place! Why can't I live here??? Lol
We got here bright and early this morning, grabbed a bite of breakfast in the CL lounge and hit HS. The crowds were really not bad today at all and the weather was awesome. Took in some shows and then had a great meal at Prime Time Cafe. I know I have heard mixed reviews about it but everything we had was fantastic. The best part was the waiter sitting down with my 14 year old doing the choo choo to try to get him to eat his vegetables. That was worth it all.
We spent the afternoon at the pool and it was beautiful and I had a fantastic frozen strawberry margarita. There were tons of chairs available too. Tonight we headed to Epcot and used up our FPs then back to the beach to watch Frozen. We see it 3 times daily at home but boy is it better here. Lol
Tomorrow we hope to hit AK at RD and then MK tomorrow evening.
Oh one tidbit, one of the CMs confirmed that starting Monday once you use your 3 FPs, you can choose more one at a time at the looks only for now. I know this is all over the DIS but I guess they talked to CMs about it today.

Okay gang, let me know if anyone needs to know anything while I'm here. :-)

Thanks for the update. Your first day sounds great. We walked past a group watching Alice in Wonderland on the beach and it looked like a really night place to see a movie. We'll have to try it some time.

I had read that they were going to allow people to get another fp at the kiosk after they used their 3 reserved ones. You'll have to let us know how that works out. :)

We had breakfast twice at the Captain's Grill and I was able to get gluten free Mickey waffles one morning and gluten free toast another morning. Both times I had ordered the breakfast buffet, which also had plenty of gluten free choices.

Thank you! I agree with you, they need to prove responsibility and independence is a reward. My son still asks permission for everything so I think we'll be ok. We only have one so I still have a hard time with giving more freedom :)

Have a great time!! Thanks for letting us live vicariously through you while waiting for our summer trip. :) Hope the rest of your trip goes as well.

Hello all! Just back from our Easter/Spring break trip. We stayed YCGVCL, we had room 5152. It overlooked the wedding gazebo. The lounge was always quite busy. I'm glad we had a room not too far away b/c there was never anywhere to sit. Sometimes the place was full of people wanting to help and sometimes no one was in site and there would be dirty dishes all over the place. They did have someone always serving the alcohol. Also, the "to go" cups were away and i was told they were by request only but by the end of my stay, they were back out on the counters again.

They were taking down the walls around the new seven dwarfs ride, but had decorative bushes up at the enterance and exit. So close and yet so far! Have to wait till July for that one, I guess. The crowds must've come earlier in the month, because the lines were all pretty good. Of course, after being there at Christmas vacation, everything was so much better anyhow! lol Even the staff at Disney were saying how the crowds weren't bad.

I had two ressies since I had booked a bounce back offer and the offer didn't cover my first day and I ended up having a problem with my magic bands. It kicked all my bands off when I rechecked in. I have many magic bands, one set from a trip in Dec, 1 set from being annual passholders, 2 sets from this trip and then I added my niece and they sent me another set. The CM had to enter them all back in (although I know at least 1 still didn't work after that but I wasn't going through that again!). I decorated my magic bands and had been planning on wearing them with different outfits. My one from Dec. worked just fine when I checked in on the first day and I was able to use it for my room - no problem. So, I was disappointed in that when I checked back in, it had removed them all. I have another 2 ressies for summer. What to do now? I wasn't even going to customize those bands and just use the ones I have. Now, I feel like I should only keep 1 or 2 and deactivate the rest. I'm definitely not going to have them all reactiviated again when I change resorts in July, if it kicks them out again.

Glad that you're enjoying your trip! Miss it already (left on 4/25). I feel like I just missed everything, the opening of the SDM and now adding FP after! Oh well, back in July to do it all again. lol

This is actually my fear right now... we have a set from January and then we got our AP set and now we have a 3rd set for our May trip... hoping that all 3 work without a problem when we check in! Then we have a trip for July (another set of MB) and a trip in Nov (split stay with 2 sets of MB) - I really want them all to work without a problem but I'm SO nervous about it!!!

At Club level I know you get soda but can you get juice as in apple juice or lemonade? My youngest does not drink soda, also can you get water all day?
Or would I still need to order a case of water for the room from a garden grocer?

These are a couple of pictures from the link to my pictures in the Concierge Level Post

Unfortunately, I didn't take a great closeup pictures of the labels, but I believe that is apple and orange juice offered in the morning:

Definitely lemonade, ice tea and I think cranberry juice in the afternoon.

Even if the juices are only offered during the morning, I think if you let the IPO (ahead of time) or the CL staff (when you are there) that your daughter would like apple juice, they will try to have it available for her.

As far as water- there are glass bottles out all the time for pouring individual glasses and I believe you can ask the CL staff for plastic bottles of Dasani to take back to your room or to the parks. Not sure how much you need, or if there is any limit to what you can ask for- we haven't done it.

There is orange and cranberry juice out in the morning. Water and lemonade also. You can ask the cm for water bottles. We would fill up some to go cups with milk and juice for my little ones for the rest of the day and leave them in our room refrigerator.

We have the same problem. One band for AP one for Room. Do we need both bands or can we just combine the two? Does this mean we need to carry around 2 bands all the time?

This is too funny. I can just see my 14yr with this, in fact, this could be some serious payback for some of the 14yr old attitude we sometimes put up with!:rotfl:

My name is Linda and I am a Beach Club addict.....

:wave2:

Hi, Linda!

There have been reports that Kona will be be closed in the fall (some say permanently :sad1:) but they are accepting ADRs currently. I love Kona but I decided not to book it this time so I won't be locked out of other restaurants if Disney waits until the last minute to announce the closure (as they sometimes do). If you follow tikiman on Facebook, he is keeping up with all the Poly news and rumors.

That makes me sad!!! Kona in the top 3 of my favorite Disney restaurants and it has my very favorite thing to eat in the World- the Macadamia freaking Pineapple Pancakes! I'll have to start following tikiman (is that considered cheating on you guys) to get more info.

:listen:

Just wanted to drop in because I'm feeling a little bit more excited! I'm one of those people that is constantly counting down to the next big event. The latest was a trip to Cairns (Australia, where I live, but two states away in distance and a world away in climate and scenery) which I returned from just yesterday. That means I'm one step closer to my BCV countdown!

My next big event is PAX Australia, which is 187 days from now. Then 13 days later I fly (such a long, long way) to Boston. Two weeks after that, Universal for four days, and then...BCV. It's all so close now! Lol

Just looked at your ticker and you certainly have a fantastic trip lineup!

I am trying to put together info about dining at the resort with food allergies or other issues like gluten intolerance to add to the dining post on Page 1. So far, I don't have much there, so anyone who has info or helpful hints to share, I would appreciate it. This is all I have so far:

Dining at the Yacht and Beach Club for Guests with Special Dietary Restrictions

Review of the Beach Club Marketplace from the The Disney Food Blog
Lots of information about ingredients in the baked good and links to resources within Disney for families with food allergies or special dietary needs.

If you have any tips about dining safely at the resort for people with food allergies, gluten-free diets or lactose intolerance, please share them on the main thread and I will post the info here. Thanks!

From Wood Nymph (April 2014)

We had breakfast twice at the Captain's Grill and I was able to get gluten free Mickey waffles one morning and gluten free toast another morning. Both times I had ordered the breakfast buffet, which also had plenty of gluten free choices.

Thanks for your contribution Wood Nymph :)
