I am still in shock. I just booked a 1 bedroom villa. We will be going November 13 - 19. It's the closest we can get to Christmas because we are so busy. Hoping to go to MVMCP and that some of the Christmas decorations are up. This if my second stay at the Grand. But it's been a long time ago. My first time at GF villas. So excited.

Hi.
New here. I've watched the Dis Unplugged videos for months when planning the last trip we went on (for July 2014).
Now I'm PLANNING MY NEXT ONE!! Love planning I get really OCD and will stare at my computer for months watching videos planning our road trip( I don't fly terrified of heights).
This trip is October 2016 possibly and I have always wanted to stay at GF. We stayed at Bay Lake tower last year and LOVED IT! Having a hard time letting that go with just walking over to MK. This trip my husband and I are thinking about taking our two nieces along with our son. Ages on trip would be 8,6,and 5. We don't spend much time in rooms. I like the deluxe resorts because of convenience. I LOVE Disney buses, but before kids lol. Its so much trouble to get strollers and kids plus us on the bus system. I do not like HS or AK only reason. I plan on spending a day at both of these for the kids.
I was wondering how transportation works with the monorail with GF being last stop before MK, like how long does it take to get back around to GF at end of night. Or is it just better to take the boats back.Is it a long walk to bus stops from different buildings or is it reasonable. We stayed at AKL Kidani in 2013 and HATED IT, i will NEVER EVER GO BACK to that hotel. Really just worried about spending a lot of money and being unhappy with choice.
I'm sure ill think of more things to ask later. Thanks for the help.

I just bought another small contract today so I can now have 125 pts for a week at VGF. This is such a great thread I never get tired of reading it!! Can't wait for our May 2016 visit!

From what I have read (majorly ocd planner too! There should be a support group lol that's how obsessed I am) anyways it's easier to take the boats back. GF is the first stop by boat and usually there are not as many people waiting to get on a boat that are waiting to get on a monorail. This is what my plan is going to be this year. Take the monorail to MK and take the boat home from MK. From what I have also read nothing is too far apart at the grand Floridian. The buildings seem really far apart on the maps that are online but they really aren't. Same thing for the villas. On the map you might think geez I'm gonna have a mile walk to get to the monorail station but it's not that bad. I was actually surprised at how close the villas were to the main building when we went to Disney last year. (We stayed at the contemporary last year, but I remember making a mental note on the villas lol). As for the bus stop (not sure if you are planning on driving or taking the bus to AK and HS, I'm not quite sure where the bus stop is bc we have never stayed at the GF, but I'm sure it's probably right outside the main building somewhere. At least that's where it was at the contemporary so I sm figuring the GF has the same sort of set up.

You want to talk OCD? I send my kids one more spreadsheet of the itinerary (they're both in college) and they may have me committed. Last time I talked to the youngest, she just said, "You need help, Mom."

Spreadsheets are your friend! I have multiple spreadsheets for our disney trip in April, lol. 1 for cost break down, 1 for gratuities, 1 for fast passes, lol...my hubby is like is this what you do all day? Think of new ways to make spread sheets for our disney trip, lol. I am totally obsessed! I seriously don't know what I am going to do when our trip is over and I don't have to obsessively plan for a trip anymore, lol

Hey there fellow GF fans....and a great big :welcome: to all of our new posters!!

Hi All - I have some questions about the Grand Floridian. I tried to go through this thread but it's huge and I couldn't find what I was looking for. Here's what I'd like to know.

I'd like a view of the Magic Kingdom and the fireworks. Where are the best buildings for this?

Can I get that view in the main building?

Would you suggest the main building or an outer building? What are the pros and cons of each?

In the outer buildings, are there elevators to the upper floors? If there are, are they inside or outside?

:sunny:

As ahcupcake suggested..take a look at page one of this thread..it really is a wealth of info on all things Grand! :thumbsup2 Of course others experiences are always the best info..and I am always happy to add my two cents! :goodvibes The Mk views at the GF while nice..do not compare to those of the CR or the Poly...Probably the best and most reasonable priced MK view at the GF would be in an outer building...I agree with ah and would request Conch Key if that is a priority...

The big significant difference between the main building and any outer building with a MK view is that the main building is all club level..there are standard rooms.. deluxe rooms and also suites..and all with significantly higher room rates..there is only a small section of rooms in the main building with MK views..but it is a bookable category...HTH

Hi soarinfan

All buildings except Sugar Loaf (CL) have an MK view. That is because it is located between the Main Building & Conch Key

The Main Building is all CL and yes they do have MK view rooms there. They are located above Gasperilla Grill on floors 2,3 & 4(and 5th if you book the Grand Suite)

Yes there elevators located in each of the outer buildings, and they are inside the lobby of each building

There is a resort map located on the first post & page of this thread
I think Conch Key would have the closest view of the fireworks.....

I hope this helps! If I'm wrong someone will correct me.

:eeyore:

Hello there ah Hope that your are feeling better...Glad to "see" you around here...sharing your sage advice! :thumbsup2

:cheer2: :cheer2: Congrats! What a wonderful time of year to be a the world...and at the GF too...the villas are just beautiful...and yes the MVMCP will be going on...you might even be there to see the GF Gingerbread House completed and open for business....Actually its fun too watch it go up....and that is typically the week that they do it....Such a grand way to start of the holiday season!! :goodvibes

Hi Whitney08 Whats wrong with OCD planning....??? ;) lol...You are definitely in the right place for that! While I too am a fan of the ability to walk back and forth to the MK...Staying at the GF is so convenient transportation wise that you will be pleasantly surprised....::yes:: Going to the Mk..being just one monorail top away is terrific..and even better is the lovely boat ride back to the GF at the end or in the middle of a MK day...Its the first stop on the return...and as a StirlingSilver pointed out just a quick walk from the boat dock to any of the outer buildings..and even to the main building...since everything on the grounds is in pretty close proximity to each other... Happy planning....and any questions just ask away...:goodvibes

You are absolutely right! :thumbsup2 While heading to the MK the boat stops at the Poly first...which happens to be a lovely trip if you are not in any rush to get to the MK...but on the return the GF is the first stop....and so very convenient! As for the VGF there is a pretty direct covered walkway right over to the main building...and just an additional but short walk over to the bus stop..which is also covered..has plenty of benches..and an electronic information board that gives approximate times of the bus arrivals....

That is quite a bit of very specific planning...and I thought I was bad with my obsessive ADR planning....:crazy2: ....lol....:teeth: ....A suggestion..when one trip is over..you just "need" to plan another..This is called Disney logic....::yes:: There is also some Disney math to go along with it...:wizard: ;)....lol...

Hope that everyone is having a wonderful weekend...:surfweb: preppy GF gal who cannot stop reading Disney dining menus!!!!!!!!!!! :tilt: :duck: lol...

Since we are new to staying at GF, what time do we need to leave our room at GF to make it to rope drop (actually about 30 mins before rope drop) at each of the parks? MK, Epcot, HS, and AK?

I don't think I've posted in this thread before, but in case I did sorry about the double post ;)

We'll be staying in a one bedroom villa in September for our 10th anniversary. To say that I'm excited to check out our home resort is an understatement!

Thanks Ahcupcake! That's perfect. Do you (and anyone else) have an opinion on whether it's worth the extra money to get the MK view?

Hi All, i have a trip planned for May and I'm looking for advice on tipping Mousekeeping. Thanks!!

So we are booked for the end of aug... I have read and watched a few reviews that seem to imply that the gf is just not for kids , and that I as a parent will feel very uncomfortable staying there with children. Please tell me I am not going to regret bringing my 4 and 8 year old.

We have a trip booked in April and I have 2 kids (8 and will be 20 months at the time of the trip). I am not regretting booking it in the least. My 8 yr old is actually very excited to stay there bc their pools are awesome lol...at least the look awesome from the pictures. It might be a fancy resort but I have seen plenty of kids there when we have visited the resort. I wouldn't feel bad about booking this resort I would feel super excited!!!

My 16 year old and 10 year old are super excited about staying here because GF was on an old episode of Full House when they went to DisneyWorld on the show! They love to watch those reruns. So, they are really pumped about the hotel!

My DD has loved the GF since our first stay there when she was only 3 1/2 - I just don't understand why people think the GF isn't good for families with kids (those reviewers, not you :sunny: ). There are lots of families with kids there, and those kids are running around and having a great time! You won't regret it, trust me.

We are staying at the end of August too. I have a 6 and 10 year old. This is our first time staying at Gf too and I had the same concerns. The more I read the more I am not worried.

We are taking our 5 year old and I stayed there as a kid years ago and loved it. It is not as themed as more kid friendly resorts, but I am looking forward to that!

While we have never stayed at GF, we do visit almost every trip. As we sit in the lobby relaxing (read, people watching...) or dine at the Café', we have always noted how many young family's are enjoying their time there. I think the resort is ONLY as stuffy as you make it. Yes, I'm sure there are some guests that would rather not see kids running around and acting like....kids...., but those are the ones that I wonder Why they are at WDW to begin with !!!! I think this resort will be great for your young families, Go and Enjoy being there, and if you don't love it there is Always a different resort to try next time!!
