(2014-2020) Disney's GRAND FLORIDIAN RESORT & SPA + VILLAS Information & Questions

We are in RPC. I don't want to be negative but we won't be back. There is an overall vibe at the resort that I don't want to be around. I don't think it is about the incident but a huge management problem.

There are no managers here. The management has changed so frequently, including GM, it is ridiculous. All the managers are in Shanghai that we know and it seems like they called 1800 temp to bring in some managers. They know nothing about the resort.

This is making me question whether I've picked the right place to stay. Our trip is in less than 3 weeks now and I've no idea if they'd let us change resorts as I booked a package. I don't want to spend the money on a place like this if it's being poorly run....

Some if not many of the issues seem to be related to Club Level service, but the previous posters can correct me if I am wrong. If you really wanted to change, you could based upon availability. My two cents, the Grand is as lovely as the people here on this thread. The beach access is hopefully a temporary restriction, and it doesn't take away from the Grand lobby, the elegant and large rooms, the beautiful grounds and the proximity to that glorious castle. Again just my opinion, but I think you will have a GRAND TIME :)

Was just reading wdwinfo updates. No more outside movies? Instead movies going to be inside? :sad1: -and no more Searacyers. I hope this isn't Permanent. On the bright side the MK resort boats are back. And if you want to rent the pontoon boats. Just no Searacyer. Which is a shame as that was in our plans.

We were in RPC about two weeks ago, and we had a fantastic time! Although I didn't see as many managers there as I usually do, I did not notice any significant change in service. It is my understanding that having someone escort you to SL or RPC in now subject to availability of someone to escort you, which is unfortunate, but we did get lucky...although I think that is because we arrived at a slow time. Obviously, there have been some disappointing changes in offerings in the CL there in recent years as well as some significant price increases, and of course we should let them know when we are dissatisfied with something at the resort, but GF is still my favorite resort - hands down! As a result of the price increases, we have been trying out new resorts at times, but we go to WDW multiple times per year. If we only went once a year and price wasn't a huge concern, I would choose GF! I do think Disney made a big mistake by not having adequate signs warning people about the possibility of alligators (I have seen an alligator and a snake in that water before), and I think they are overreacting now if they are keeping the beaches closed after putting in the fence! They can't undo what happened by being overly cautious now...everyone is aware of the potential now. I can't imagine that they would keep the beaches closed much longer, but I would probably contact the resort to ask...IPO if you are staying CL. Honestly, we didn't even go to the beach this trip. Since the villas have opened, the beach pool is pretty busy and noisy, and we found that the courtyard pool was much more relaxing! How can you argue with this...image.jpegPlease understand that I am not saying that I am happy about the decrease in services or amenities in the past few years, but if you think about it, we are seeing the same pretty much everywhere today...smaller packages for the same price at the grocery store, etc! And the decrease in services has been pretty much in CL...with the exception of the foot rub and the aloe gel. We personally still get our money's worth out of GF for sure...we just can't afford to stay there as often. I hope this helps!

Showing the movie indoors seems silly to me since the movie was by the courtyard pool when we were there! I would understand moving it off the beach, but why not just relocate it to a quiet pool area at all the resorts??

Similar to baler my RPC wasn't Grand by any means, fortunately our return trip to SL more than compensated for it. A real shame that service declined in the main building. Being easily swayed by reviews I get it, but I did almost change to RPC after Dispro's post a few weeks back ;) ...we are at BWI CL this summer. I didn't know that about the movies being indoors..strange. Things will settle, however the "not knowing when" is hard for guests with upcoming stays. We've never hung at the beach there, Poly and WL yes. The two pools would keep my family content I am sure.

Here's a :grouphug: yes, another one for my Grand friends.

I truly believe that Disney is doing the right thing now (no bch access, movies moved, etc.), until they get a handle on things. I truly believe these changes are only temporary until they figure out what will work and what won't.

I have to believe that every cast member and even up the ranks to Bob Iger are just sick about what happened. Just heartbroken.

Let's give Disney a chance to figure it all out and do what's best for the resort. I really have faith that they will. :grouphug:

I agree, moving movie inside seems silly. It was an unbelievably tragic accident. But in all the years they've been having movies on the beach there has never been a gator run up on the beach and attack someone.
I hope Lisann is correct and things will return to normal.

Thank you both for the replies! We are booked with a deluxe room but not CL so perhaps we won't notice those changes as much it sounds like. I've been reading about that here and it seems like the cutbacks on the CL have been a problem and disappointment to many long time guests who know what the service there used to be. That's so unfortunate because really the CL at the Grand should be nothing short of spectacular as it is Disney's flagship resort. I hope that changes.

The loss of the little boy there is incredibly heartbreaking - although I think the same thing could have happened at other resorts (I've seen alligators at CSR). I don't know that we would have used the beach much or the outdoor movies (we haven't for other stays on the property) so some of those changes won't matter so much to our stay.

The resort itself looks beautiful...I love that pic and that's the main reason I want to stay there. :)

We are looking forward to our upcoming stay.

So many things to love about GF. Funny that after the storms we had up here in the east last night I just remembered how nice the wicker baskets full of nice white fluffy towels placed near the doors in the lobby after a summer rain storm are such a nice touch. We have been caught in the afternoon with a quick storm and those towels are a welcome sight!

We also enjoy a beverage at the beach pool with a view of the lagoon and CR and Poly :beach:

I would certainly let Guest Services know about the lack of service. Also, I would contact Disney directly when I got home to let them know what is going on and lack of service or managers. Guest Services might not pass that on to the "Powers that Be" at Disney. Best to let the top management know. It certainly can't hurt.

As an aside, I looked to see of there were any rooms available in the near future, and all rooms are booked. People are still going to the GF and until rooms are not being filled, I don't think Disney cares about lack of service. The customer is certainly getting less, and Disney is charging more. It won't change until business drops off.

I agree.

I wish guests knew how much power they really have.

My guess is that what you feel reflects your perception or momentary conditions. A "resort bad day" might be a way to express it. Myself, I would hesitate to characterize anything experienced at the GF right now as a management problem other than perhaps due to distress over what happened affecting performance.

We've stayed RPC three times and only once experienced a significant issue which was fairly easily resolved. In fact, we found the RPC a marvel again last year compared with WL CL the year before.

RPC management was extremely helpful on Christmas Day, sending a courier to the MK to pick up a package we couldn't get because the park had closed after we left it for an Epcot ADR. The package was even delivered to our room while we were at dinner.

I myself wouldn't say I'd never return there based on our experiences along with comparisons made by others who've stayed CL elsewhere. Yes, costcutting has been noticeable where the variety of lounge food is concerned, but otherwise I doubt any other CL equals the RPC.

Hello everyone!

Never too early to plan, right? Very excited to say we have booked for end of October/ early November 2017! 9 nights, lagoon view..........ahhh, feels so good to have it officially on the books.

Our first stay at Grand Floridian, normally we stay in the Epcot area. Looking forward to the next year and half of reading and planning!

Sooo, not even a day later and we are now at the Polynesian, sigh....One day!

Hello Mouseketeers! My mom and I are traveling to the Grand Floridian for the first time in October. It has always been a dream of ours to stay on a monorail resort. Do you guys prefer garden view or lagoon view? We originally booked lagoon but the garden view just became available and we decided to change our room view. Any tips for a room request? Thanks! We are beyond thrilled for October!!!

Mouseketeer1993 - We stayed many times with my mother, who was in her 70s at the time, in the Sago Cay building. We had a garden view of the marina. This particular building is close to the bus stop and the main building. She had a hard time walking in general the first time we were there, and ended up renting a scooter for her in the following years. We did not have a dormer room. She liked sitting on the more "open feel" balcony, as opposed to the "closed feeling" balcony which you would find in a dormer room. Had an upper floor, away from the elevator.

Hope it helps.

I will post a review later but am at airport. We checked out today as this was a quick trip before taking daughter to look at schools.

Trust me not a perception or "resort bad day". This is our 3rd RPC stay this year and issues are obvious. We had some wonderful park interaction and VIP tour guide Terry was a highlight. Service, lounge, etc. not up to previous stays.

For those not staying CL or first time/infrequent guests, you may not notice. Will try to review our suite soon.

Great pic of Courtyard pool. Did you happen to get any pics of what kind of fencing is up on the beach?
