Reading about the US hotels makes me really want to investigate our stay next January. I'd love to stay two nights so we could do a day at US (or maybe two, not sure how much we'd do besides HP - only one kid is a coaster junkie).

Thanks everyone for making sure we didn't sink too far off of page 1. No, there is no new thread yet. I will make sure everyone knows when that happens and I will shine a beacon to the new location so everyone can find it.

Speaking of teens, I am just now joining in on the conversation because I was off on Nate's first college visit this morning. A school about 40 minutes away from where we live and it happens to be the school that both my husband and I (and my father) went to. We attended as commuters, but we are encouraging Nate to stay on campus if he goes there.

I have two teens, currently 16 and 13, but they are boys, so I know that is a whole different situation from having teen girls. Nate gave us trouble for about 6 months when he was 12, but he really is getting more and more tolerable as the years go by and dare I say I am already starting to miss him and he isn't even gone yet!

:sad1:

They had been predicting rain for every day of our trip but this is the first time we've actually had any storms. It is pouring right now but luckily we came back to the BC early today and beat the downpours. We played billiards in the newly discovered, for us, ;) Drawing Room at the BCVs while the housekeeper cleaned our room. That was fun and it didn't even matter that I am absolutely terrible at the game. :upsidedow

We had a very nice day yesterday beginning with breakfast at Captain's Grille and then a visit with Teena. We ended up spending time at six resorts yesterday, BC, YC, POR, POFQ, WL and FW. We stopped off in the lobby to say goodbye to Teena before we headed off to the Wilderness Lodge in the late afternoon. We stopped at the Territory Lounge for a drink and the waitress, Chelsea, recognized us from our other previous stays at the WL. I'm not sure if that was good or bad. :o

Then we walked over to Fort Wilderness, one of our favorite things to do when staying at WL. We saw deer along the path. The horse barn was still open and we went inside to look at the horses. They had some Percheron horses, a Clydesdale and something else. There was also a 1907 Calliope wagon on display. The horses were eating and all but one of them totally ignored us. One horse would look at us only when we didn't look at him. As soon as we turned to look toward him, he put his head back into his feed trough. It was rather comical. :)

We had a very delicious dinner at Trail's End. They have really good comfort food, the best fried chicken ever, baked beans, ribs, all kinds of good food. We managed to get into the restaurant after the Hoop Dee Doo crowd had been seated but before they had finished. We caught the boat to MK after dinner before Hoop Dee Doo was over, which was perfect. One of the reasons we like to stay at the WL so much is the boats to/from MK, CR and FW. We just love the boats. :lovestruc There are things that we miss about WL when we stay at the BC and there are things that we miss about the BC when we stay at the WL.

We had a fastpass for Wishes which I had really been looking forward to using. There had been thunderstorm warnings tlast night, and it had poured in the MK earlier that night, while it was dry at the BC, so I was worried that we might get rained out. But the storms stayed away and Tinker Bell flew as scheduled. I hadn't seen Tinker Bell do her thing in ages and I was very happy to see her. She was a bit glitzier than I remember her to be. ;)

We got to the fastpass area about 9:40pm, just before the laser light show. Most people had gotten into the reserved area before us, but there was still plenty of room. We stood in the back section near the rear entrance to the fp area, the one that is closest to Tomorrowland Terrace and the dessert party. I wanted a quick exit from the fp area and the park so that is why I choose that area. It was right near that exit that they open behind the Main street buildings for the fireworks crowd to exit. All in all it was a great place to view Wishes. I think we even had a better view than the dessert party people. :rolleyes1 We had no problem seeing everything. There was plenty of room to stand, too. (The CMs made us stand.) And when the fireworks were over we rushed out of the fp area and out that exit behind Main Street. A YC/BC bus was waiting and we were back at the BC by 10:40pm. :goodvibes

Today was a day that I didn't make any plans - no ADR's at all. We decided yesterday to return to MK this morning and I had no trouble getting the fastpasses I wanted. Even this morning, when we were at MK and I was changing fastpasses while we were there, there were plenty of times available. When a ride that we have a fp for has a very short standby time I quickly change the fp for another ride. We did all of our "must-do's" and got out of Mk by noon. We took the monorail to Epcot, walked through the park to the BC and got back well before the storm.

What a wonderful trip you are having. Thanks for the tips about the viewing point for the Wishes FP area. Now, if you could just pass along your formula for missing the downpours, it would be greatly appreciated. :)

It is always fun visiting you. I was sorry that we couldn't spend more time, but you had your duties to attend to. :) We'll be back in October.

And we like the breakfast buffet, too. :)

Quick question, if you have the chance to respond. So did you go into MK this morning without any FP, or did you have them for someplace else? Were you able to make FP or change what you had using the app or did you use the kiosks? If using the kiosks, did you make FP reservations one at a time or for more?

Thanks!

We are staying at Yacht Club end of June. We have ADR at Hollywood and Vine at 8:00 am when the park opens at 9:00. We've done this before with ADR's at magic kingdom, but never studios. If boats won't start moving until 8:00 I'm guessing we need to cab it to studios. Is that correct? TIA

Questions for all you Beach/Yacht Club experts...(and I apologize if these have been answered already, but this thread is 259 pages long, so....)

We are planning a Feb 2016 trip, and I think we are going to stay at the BC or the YC. We are unsure which one, though. We are a family of 4, and will have a 6 yr old and 3 yr old with us. I think I like the looks of the BC better, but because of the little ones, I think a balcony that hubby and I can sit on when we put the kids to bed might be nice. Most meals will be out and about, but we are not big breakfast eaters, so we will eat it in our room most mornings, but if we wanted to grab something quick on our way out in the morning, the only CS is at the BC, right?

So, if we want a balcony, we are better going with YC, right? Is it that far out of the way to swing in for breakfast on our way in the mornings at the BC?

Last question, if we are hoping for a room discount, is there equal likelihood at both resorts?

Ale and Compass, a lounge that serves breakfast as a quick service in the morning, is located at Yacht Club.

I haven't posted much recently and I haven't seen a new board, but I've got other troubles on my mind...our soon to be 16 year old daughter and I had a HUGE fight and I had to take away her phone. This trip we are taking (in 46 days!!!) is for her sweet 16 and right now I feel like canceling the whole thing...GRRRRR. I have caught her multiple times staying up until 2am texting her California friends while simultaneously trying to finish up her homework.

Trying to find my laughing place now.....

As a middle school/high school teacher I like to explain to parents that this rebellious/hate-your-parents phase is actually the brain's way of gaining independence from parents and becoming an adult. They are genetically programmed to become obnoxious around age 13 until they are around 18. Once they get to college and gain the actual independence, that's when they (usually) return to their loving, grateful selves. So really, it's not you. And it's not really them either. It hormones. Once you remember that then there is a little more patience in dealing with this pain-in-the-tush phase. Just know that you should still be firm in terms of your rules and expectations, along with the consequences when they don't follow the rules. Consistency is key.

And remember that they will grow out of it, I promise. :thumbsup2

Have not done it myself but that would make sense to either take a taxi or walk.

Taxis should be available out front that morning and it is a quick 5-7 minute drive over.

The walk takes about 20 minutes.

It's going to be crazy enough for my family to get to the park for an 8:00 am ADR that there is no way we will be up in time to walk to the studios. The few times we have taken a cab at Disney World the prices don't seem too bad compared to home. So if we would take a cab I would think being downstairs asking for them to flag us a cab at 7:30 should give us enough time to get there and get through security. Does that sound right?

Glad you're having such a good trip! Can you please post some pictures of the view you had from the fastpass area? I keep hearing conflicting reviews about it and I'm not sure if it's worth it to book it or not since we didn't book the dessert party because my mom is diabetic.

No matter how grumpy my DDs were as teens, we could always talk WDW!

They are now 25 and 27, both are married and independent. But they still whine when I go to WDW without them!

Big news flash---DD #1 is expecting with an October due date! Another generation to introduce to Disney!

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list we keep on Page 1 of this thread.

:cool1:

My understanding is that families of 5 are given priority for a room with a daybed. That is, if there are two families checking in, one with 5 members and 1 with 4 members who have requested a daybed and there is only one room with a daybed when you are checking in, then you would get that room. In the (hopefully rare) circumstance when the resort is fully occupied and there are no rooms with daybeds available then yes, you would be given a rollaway cot since you need to be placed in a room that legally sleeps everyone.

Unless something has recently changed, guests of the BC and YC resorts are not charged for the use of a rollaway cot.

:goodvibes:
Thank you so much for answering my question.:)

At 60 days out I had made fastpasses for DHS. Yesterday afternoon I cancelled them and made them for MK instead. When we arrived around 9:20 this morning we were able to walk on the first two rides that I had made fps for, so I used the app on my iPhone while we were there in the park. I changed either the times or experience of all three selections, moving them around so that I could get earlier times. Just about everything was available at 9:30 this morning including the mountains and Peter Pan.

I'm sorry but I didn't take any pictures. There were some light poles that were obscuring a very little bit of the castle during the laser show where we were standing but if we had been closer to the front of the viewing area there might not have been any obstructions.

But nothing blocked any of the fireworks. They were great. The viewing areas are more toward the center than Tomorrow land Terrace is. We were very glad to have used the fp for Wishes. Besides a decent view we weren't in a huge mob of people.

Hello DrGirly, could you share the date the CM gave you to call back for your room request? We are arriving May 30, and I was wondering when I should call.

The CM told me to call back 9 days prior to check in, including the weekend days. So if you're getting there on the 30th, I'd say to call on the 21st, based on what I was told.
