2013 BOOK CHALLENGE! Are you in?

Have you read Confessions of a Prairie ***** by Alison Arngrim? That was good. Had a lot of behind the scenes info.

Not yet. It's definitely on my list, though. Thanks for mentioning it!

Hi everyone! I just found this thread and I know it is way late into the year but would love to join.

Currently reading Four to Score by Janet Evanovich , Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon and Theodore Boone : Kid Lawyer by John Grisham. I am usually in the middle of a few books at any given time. I keep track of my books on goodreads.com and pinterest. Last year I read 114. My goal this year is 75 and I have finished 57 (lower goal this year because we went to Disney in June and I spent the first part of the year obsessively planning out trip and that cut into my reading time)

I am currently on a Janet Evanovich, Harlan Coben kick. I love Harlan Coben’s books – all of them, currently reading through the Myron Boliter series. I am listening to the audio books of Evanovich’s books on my way to and from work. I also read some childrens/young adult books with my boys or ones they suggested - the Theodore Boone book I am currently reading with my youngest son. I am also trying to read the Outlander series and currently on Drums of Autumn - it has been a slow read for me..

Have read 58 out of 80 books. Right now I am reading one book.

Love In A Nutshell by Janet Evanovich and Dorien Kelly.

It is a large print book so I am almost half way through the book. It was the only copy my local library had.

Goal: 75 books this year.

#69 down and done.

A Death in the Small Hours by Charles Finch. This is the most recent in the Charles Lenox series. Lenox is at the pinnacle of his political career and is a delighted new father. His days of regularly investigating the crimes of Victorian London behind him, he plans a trip to his cousin's estate in Somerset, expecting a few quiet weeks to write an important speech. What he finds is a series of petty crimes leading up to more serious crimes, and this time, one of the victims may be someone he loves.

#70 down and done.

Rabbi Gabrielle's Scandal by Roger Herst. This is the first I've read in this series about a female rabbi in Washington, DC. In this book, Rabbi Gabby must deal with the sudden and unexpected departure of the senior rabbi of her temple, a charge of assault and battery lodged against her by local thugs as she attempts to assist a friend being mugged, and the danger of becoming too intimately involved with a congregant accused of rape. In addition to enjoying a good story, I learned a lot about the Jewish faith, which I found very interesting.

23, 24, and 25

The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Draanen - This is a young adult that I read to see if it was okay for my DD 11 - it was. A 16 year old track star loses her leg in an accident. The book tells the story of her struggle and fight to run again. It was okay. I think a preteen would really like it.

I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had by Tony Danza - I loved this book! I wasn't expecting to. I just grabbed it when I was browsing at the library. Since I am a teacher, I thought I would try it. This is Danza's story of teaching high school English (only one class) for a year. He seemed to really put his heart and soul into that year of teaching.

The Aviator's Wife by Melanie Benjamin - This is a historical fiction about Anne Lindbergh. I think I am the only person who did not really like this book. Charles Lindbergh is not a likable person which made me sad. I was expecting a great love story which I don't think it is. It did make me research their true life which I guess is the point of historical fiction.

Okay make that 59 out of 80 books read. Now I am reading two books by Diane Kelly.

Death, Taxes, and a Skinny No-Whip Latte

Death, Taxes, and Extra Hold Hairspray

Book Book #69 Ravishing the Heiress by Sherry Thomas

Review: That is the worst title ever. I am almost embarrassed to admit that I read it but I did, horrible title, cover and all. So basically Lord Fitz and his wife, Millie have been in a celibate marriage for 8 years. He married her because he needed money and she needed a royal title. They totally understand the situation and Millie even makes the suggestion that they don't consummate the marriage for 8 years because even though it was love at first sight for her HE was in love with Isabelle. Yet, he openly flaunts affairs in front of her and Millie just takes it!

So, 8 years have gone by and the couple are genuinely best friends and the Other Woman arrives back from India so Millie expects that she will do her duty (give an heir) and then Fitz will go off with Isabelle but things change as their agreement means they have to sleep with each other. Fitz falls in love with his wife and they live happily ever after.

This book is bull.

Goal - 100 book
Book #54 - "Miss Dreamsville and the Collier County Women's Literary Society" by Amy Hill Hearth

From Goodreads: "In 1962, Jackie Hart moved to Naples, Florida, from Boston with her husband and children. Wanting something personally fulfilling to do with her time, she starts a reading club and anonymously hosts a radio show, calling herself Miss Dreamsville.

The racially segregated town falls in love with Miss Dreamsville, but doesn’t know what to make of Jackie, who welcomes everyone into her book club, including a woman who did prison time for allegedly killing her husband, a man of questionable sexual preference, a young divorcee, as well as a black woman."

I enjoyed this book. It wasn't a difficult read, but it was perfect for the end of summer! To be honest, I picked it up at the library because it was short and looked like I could get through it fast, to help with my goal. But I ended up liking it quite a bit. I wish that the author had taken a bit more time with the members of the society, as there were some that I felt didn't get a "fair shake" in this book, but all in all, it was a fun read.

Next up: "The Truth of All Things" by Kieran Shields

Yay! :cool1:

Since it's the middle of the year I'll put my goal to 25 books. I'll add on as I go hopefully!

Adding both of you! WELCOME!!

6. Death comes to Pemberley PD James
I enjoyed this book. But can see how it may be clunky for some.

I am really behind on my goal! Need to buckle down.

#58..One False Move by Harlan Coben.. So far my favorite in the Myron Bolitar series. I love how in all of Coben's books you never really figure it out until the last few pages.

Finished book #60- Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

I didn't know much about this when I got it. Just that a young woman takes a job caring for a quadriplegic & it ends up changing her life. I liked the main character, Louisa. This is a quick read as I couldn't put it down & it did bring tears too. This book will make you think about what you would do in both situations both which you hope to never be in. I definitely recommend this book.

Louisa Clark is an ordinary girl living an exceedingly ordinary lifesteady boyfriend, close familywho has barely been farther afield than their tiny village. She takes a badly needed job working for Will Traynor, who is wheelchair bound after an accident. Will has always lived a huge lifebig deals, extreme sports, worldwide traveland now hes pretty sure he cannot live the way he is.
Will is acerbic, moody, bossybut Lou refuses to treat him with kid gloves, and soon his happiness means more to her than she expected. When she learns that Will has shocking plans of his own, she sets out to show him that life is still worth living.

Next book: probably the Percy Jackson series

I am raising my goal to 75!
I love to read, but I never thought I could read this much in a year!

104/150 - My Everything by J.R. Barrett

105/150 - Saving Wishes (The Wishes Series #1) by G.J. Walker-Smith
106/150 - Second Hearts (The Wishes Series #2) by G.J. Walker-Smith

You might guess I loved book 1 so much that I bought the second one. These books are really wonderful. The characters will really capture your heart. I'm just sad that I have to wait until November for book 3.

107/150 - License to Thrill by Stephanie Bond

108/150 - Almost a Family by Stephanie Bond

109/150 - Three Wishes by Stephanie Bond

I bought a 3 book bundle for my Kindle. I liked the first 2 books but not the third, though I've liked everything else I've read by this author.

Book Goal: 25

#1: A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

I think everyone knows about series. So...

#2: Feast of Souls by C.S. Friedman

So far, so good. It's great if you love fantasy books (like me).

It asks what sorcery would be like if the payment was a person's life. A realistic story that gives you enough information to adjust to the world Friedman has written and enough to keep you wanting more.

Easily one of my favorite books I have read this year.

Goal - 28 books

Book #22 - Zoo by James Patterson, Michael Ledwidge - I liked this book a lot. I can't really tell you why I liked it though. It was just very entertaining. Reading some stories can be work (and sometimes I like those). This story seemed to flow effortlessly from beginning to end. It's like a good zombie book, but with animals instead of the undead. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Next up - The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks - This book cannot possibly be as good as TBM tells me that it is! :rotfl:
