Book #16 - "The Knitting Circle" by Ann Hood

Mary Baxter takes up knitting as a way to help with her grief after the sudden death of her 5 year old daughter. As she learns to knit, she joins a "circle" of women who knit together often to share their strength. At first, Mary believes that no one can understand her loss, but as she learns the stories of the knitting circle, she realizes that everyone has heartache, no matter how perfect their lives look on the outside.

This was a pretty good book. A little more depressing than I usually like, but the resolution at the end redeemed it. Some of the characters were really well written, and some of them were extremely one dimensional, and I can't quite tell if the author meant for it to be that way or not. Still, it was an enjoyable read, and I would recommend it.

Next up: "Life is So Good" by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman, and I continue to plug away at "Team of Rivals". Each day I'm getting at least one chapter closer to the end!

#9 - To be Sung Underwater - Thomas McNeal - LOVED this book. Girl grows up, moves, first love, then life changed her path. She looks back to see what might have been. Again, I hate to say much because sometimes I don't want too know much before I read a book. Started this yesterday and had soo much trouble putting it down. Beautifully written & stays with you after finishing. If anyone reads this, would love a message since there's one part I'm dying to discuss and have no one to share about it!

I will say that I don't have to have a happy ending to love a book but I'm ready for one now. Up next, something light because I need it!

I'm going to add this book to my "to read" list. I'd love to discuss it with you when I'm done, but currently I'm reading Fall of the Giants and that most likely will take me a few weeks at least.

Turkey Day Murder by Leslie Meier

This is your typical cozy murder mystery. I like the characters of the series and enjoy "catching up" with them. This book was not as good as others I have read; sort of scattered. Quick read though.

I'm in! I'm setting my goal as 100, which is definitely doable for me, even tho I'm starting late. I just finished my re-read of gone girl last night, and today I'm starting the new Linwood Barclay, Trust Your Eyes. I always love his books, and this one has great reviews! I'm looking forward to getting lots of book suggestions from this thread, finding books to read is always way harder for me than reading them!

I just finished this one (have to go check and see if I put it on my list!). It was very good! Someone here suggested this author, so I started reading his books, and found that I had actually read a couple. This one was quite enjoyable.

After reading so may YA books lately this one was really intense. A psychological thriller. Loved it.
Just after a retired professor receives news that he has a terminal disease (age related), he plans to go home and commit suicide as he has no remaining family to live for. Only, as he pulls into his driveway, he witnesses a teenage girl being abducted but the police don't believe him at first....he starts his own investigation with help from conversations with his dead loved ones.............

Have read 13 out of 80 books so far. Didn't get to finish the book "The Secret Keeper" by Kate Morton. Goes back to the library today and didn't have the time because it was a fourteen day loan. Do non-Fiction books count to read? If not then I am going tonight to get some more books out of the library. Decide not to read the non fiction book I was reading cause it too boring.

I am now reading The Enchantress by Michael Scott. It is the last book in the series The Secrets of The Immortal Nicholas Flamel.

Am I the only one who has real life getting in the way of their reading? Seems like all of my students' IEPs were due in January & February. We're not even finished the second month of the year yet and I'm already 3 books behind!!!!

On a positive note, I did finish "The Lincoln Conspiracy" last night. I did enjoy it immensely, but then again, historical fiction is my favorite genre.

I downloaded 3 more library books tonight. Hoping to get to them before they're due back at the library.

Lots of YA books are meatier than some adult books, so why not? You are still reading!

For those of you asking about whether a certain book should count.... there are NO rules here. A book is a book is a book, lol. Doesn't matter the content or genre, the page number, or the reason why you're reading it (class, etc.).

All that matters is that we have FUN reading this year!

Necessary Detour by Kim Hornsby

I'll give this one a 3.5/5. There were quite a few technical errors that irked me. Again, this was a Kindle book, and errors seem to be much more prominent in these books.
That being said, it was a decent mystery. Nothing too deep, not a lot of violence, and a little romance thrown in. It's a good filler book in between meatier ones.

This is book 2 of the YA series. It is fast paced & interesting to read. It took me a day & a half to read & I am already 100 pgs into the third book.

In the second book in the New York Times bestselling series, Nicholas, Sophie, Josh, and Scatty emerge in Paris, the City of Light, home to Nicholas Flamel. Only this homecoming is anything but sweet. Niccolò Machiavelli, immortal author and celebrated art collector, lives in Paris and is working for Dr. John Dee. Hes in hot pursuit, and time is running out for Nicholas and Perenell. Josh and Sophie Newman are the worlds only hope. . . . If they dont turn on each other first.

Okay, I've got a few to add. Books 12-14 were the last 3 in Jean Auel's series. In between I also read A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick (meh, not very good) and Explosive Eighteen by Janet Evanovich (typical), which brings me up to 15.

I've got a few on hold (virtual, since they're ebooks) at the library, so I'm reading quick ones to fill the time. I just downloaded Brother Odd by Dean Koontz, so I'll read that one next. I wish my library had more ecopies of books! They usually only get 3 or 4 copies, and there are over 100 people on some hold lists.

How are you liking the series? I am currently reading the sixth and last book in the series right now. I love reading this series!

Book 2 of 20

"I've Got Your Number" by Sophie Kinsella (2 out of 5 stars)

I actually got this book based on Kinsella recommendations found in this thread. Sorry to say, I was very disappointed. It wasn't the worst book I've ever read, but it was certainly a chore to read. This book was quick and light, but from the first page I hated the main character. In fact, none of the characters were developed and I felt that they were all very stupid and annoying. My eyes are sore because I rolled them so often. I kept reading because I knew it would be a quick read, I wanted another notch on my book belt, and I was hoping that it would get better. It didn't.

I also have "Confessions of a Shopaholic" which I will read in the next week or two (after I feed my brain, I lost a couple of cells after book 2). I hope the author can redeem herself with "Confessions...".
